ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Have tried a couple of threads to see if anyone knows ... I have to pay ~ $5K tax. Half will be on gift cards, the rest on my new NAB Rewards card as I'm req'd to spend $2.5K on it.

Does paying the ato count as the req'd spend would anyone know please?

NAB will not pay points on ATO GMOH but it should count on spend.
If you still have BW World you get 0.66 QF points per dollar.

Thanks cove. There is that. Maybe I'll think of something else to get the bonus. Yep, still got the BWW, and I do need more QF.

Perhaps you can buy some coles online MCs (up to $1000 denomination for $5 each only need 5 so won't be on ATO site all day paying $5k in small lots) with your NAB card which should count as a qualifying purchase and be eligible for points then use those cards to pay ATO. I haven't done this with a NAB card but worked with my Citi card when I last did it about 9 months ago.

Yes thanks, I have a large clutch from the recent Coles offer to do that! But, you are right, it's a better way to do it. Get egift card $500 on line and pay ATO - that should work, via cashrewards too.

GMOH you can buy them up to $1000 which will mean you only need half as many and spend half as much in $5 issuance fees.

Always bought coles prepaid master card $100 value + $5 fees = $105 But you get 1000 flybuys bonus points ( equal to $5 ).

The real winner is amex EDGE $1 for 3ppd. I have been lucky enough always received those flybuys offer, mother days, father days, valentine days. Sounds crazy enough, I have bought nearly $60,000 value using amex EDGE ( during the last 3-4 offers ).

Also flybuys points sitting at nearly 500k points ( you can convert this to velocity , and etihad ).

Man I wish I had Bills that large to pay with. Unfortunately I don't have ato bills etc to pay. For non business people the only time I csn think of large purchases is deposit for cars t dealers

Sorry I'm a bit confused. So your suggesting buying 1k Coles gift cards online with your amex Plat edge and paying your tax bill. To get points. How does Cashrewards come into it

Buying these GCs online doesn't earn Edge points as they only accept MC and Visa online (assuming the merchant fees for Amex don't make it viable as it's not Coles issuing them). I think it's a good workaround for GMOH's situation but not for everyone.

AFAIK cash rewards doesn't have any connection to it. Cashrewards has been discussed elsewhere as a means to buying discounted WOW eGift cards which you then can use to buy other merchandise in WOW group stores.

SOPOOR, have a look at Cashrewards. You open Cr and then click through to whatever you want to buy. Pay for item w' your cc in normal way.

And now back on topic.

And sorry to sound like a broken record but you can't buy Coles gift cards at woolworths so I assume you can't get 5% offf and to spend it on a to payments. Unless you buy the perfect gift cards and pay the $5.95 fee which essentially means you pay 95c for $100 and get the discounted vis/MC rate which makes it about the same but just amex points instead of visa points

Correct?

Yeah I know cr. Been using it for a few years. I just thought that someone was referring to being able to using Cashrewards for their ato payment

Im pretty sure, this thread has single handed-ly made all banks preventing and stating in the ads that ATO is not a valid form of points making.

Not hard for middle management to go through these forums to put 2 and 2 together. >.< bohooo Know of a loophole, dont speak about it.

You may be about 7000 posts too late for that admirable sentiment. But, the first thing you said luckily had not come to pass as yet.

I'm willing to bet they have far more effective ways of discovering where their "worst" transactions are, than trawling internet forums.
