ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I would have done my last payment with Coles Feb 28 as I did my last reload BPay on Feb 27. Unlike previous BPay’s, it didn’t appear for 2 days which threw things off. I’ll report back what happens. Hopefully will be under the old regime otherwise turfed a few hundred $ in surcharges.

Apologies if this has already been answered. The link to the initial post no longer works.

Is the ATO credit card charge tax deductible for personal tax? I know for business/company tax the ATO charge is deductible. Thanks in advance.

Generally no.

Other operating expenses
  • credit card/charge card payment fee (only for the purposes of paying a business tax liability, for example, GST liability)

Only1 visa cards are still working on the Government EasyPay service for Child Support payments (which is basically the same as the Government EasyPay service for payments to the Australian Tax Office).

Fraud has been mentioned a few times now.

Have there really been cases of fraud with Visa One cards or are they just fed up that people are paying huge bills in $99.85 increments?

I can understand fraud at a retail store, but surely someone paying the ato would no be trying to use fraudulent cards..

There are no limits to the stupidity of people and anyone attempting to pay their tax bill with fraudulent cards is a special kind of stupid.

Have been quickly rebuilding Mrscove’s Kris Miles stash this month following family raids. April 3rd is the end of the card I have been using.

Bit the bullet and switched to RewardPay. Claiming the 2.4% as a business deduction greatly lessens the sting :')

Sayounara, CMC!

mbeder, please edit your post and talk in code words please ASAP.
Please refer to previous handful of pages.

It is a brave new world out there Saltywings. Which Amex works best and how many points do you get for that 2.4% tax deductible fee.

Linked platE + exp (as the paying card) yielding 2ppd (Ascent, not Gateway - the hidden killer combo). As I would never target a redemption value below 2cpp (on average getting ~4cpp or 6cpp+ on F awards) I consider this to be decent value even in the hypothetical scenario of not being able to claim the 2.4% as a cost of business.

Being able to do so is sweet, sugary icing.

having linked rewards makes it worthwhile imo.
