ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

"Dragon" card is sensitive for ATO payments, bank can easily pick up it is for business use. Last year there was a report from member card got cancelled due to ato payments, and points forfeited. 5 figure payments is a lot - I am pretty sure Bank pick it up by now , instead of taxman

Hearing all these anecdotes of how the Dragon seems to be faltering...I'm kind of glad I saved the headache of yet another CC app, and the stress to follow if our 5-6 digit payments weren't to go through.

Yeah...Explorer + RewardPay. Hassle-free, stress-free, points-rich.

Is it possible they're picking it up because of the frequency of the payments? My velocity platinum amex got stopped for the rest of the statement period once because I did exactly that, cycled 5 figure payments through every other day to pay off tax. Yes I rang and yes that's why they said my card was blocked.

Also, its absolutely possible to have five figures in personal tax to pay, next bill is close on 25K.

An alternative might be to set up a payment plan and making 1-2 payments a month, to try to not get flagged.

That might work for a bit, but I wouldn't underestimate their pattern recognition algorithms. In fact, routine is the enemy of stealth. It's going to be child's play for them to pick up say 5k twice a month, every month to the same recipient. If it wasn't the ATO, that would almost be a ML flag.

Worth a shot though - low effort high reward!

I'm doing monthly payments and doing some normal lunches, coffees transactions as well ;)
Been going since Jan when I got the card, touch wood no issues as yet

Haha that's awesome. Though not to rain on the achievement, it's far more likely that they're simply allowing your spend to go through as opposed to their algorithms not picking it up. But then again the grocer's card once allowed a 500k+ spend to go through so...YMMV.

not putting everything on this card, its a mixture between this, the westie and RP/explorer.
reduces the overall surcharge

I use my dragon for all non-Amex expenses. I put through ~$7k ATO on the 18/4 and it's still sitting in "Pending" while coffees, dry cleaning, myki paid yesterday (19/4) are already "posted".
Waiting nervously.........

Keep us posted - i have a tax bill I need to pay shortly so am interested to read everyone's experiences.

All of mine have been ok. Since I scrapped Qudos I have quite a lot of transactions on a monthly basis.

Just logged into dragon - payment still pending.
Checked ATO Business Portal - payment is not there.......

<gulp!>

Sending you positive vibes....I didn’t use the dragon for ato this month, but all my other transactions are still clearing within a day. I had a non ato 35k transaction on the 18th that posted on the next day.

Back when the grocer's MC still worked, I had an ATO txn that took over 16 days to post. I'm not going to say 'so it could be worse', more just letting you know that this sort of thing could and has happened.

Assuming you have a May 1 deadline to meet...I'd call up a few days beforehand if it still doesn't go through!

It always takes a few business days to clear in my experience. I always assumed this was a system thing. Fingers crossed for you

Thanks for the heads up. I may give them another look particularly with my grocer as source.

Anyone giving their /pay anything other than Fiscal fiend? Assuming they may not like just the one target.

Some may find that it's worth revisiting /pay. Looks like the transaction limit can now be $10,000 instead of $1,000 if you pay a monthly fee.

I haven't used them since the transactions kept declining because /pay "were at their credit limit".

I may remove this post later if people say I've shared too much.

I haven’t used them since Jan as I had the same problem when they told me they were at their limit and I had to wait for a while before the transaction came though.

Also, there are not many visa and master cards can earn at least 1.5 pts / $1 to utilise /pay and pay the monthly fee.

5 figure payments have been fine here with dragon, but I am due to pop another few through this week and next month...how did you go coriander?

some feedback on /pay: i've been unable to pay anything all day sunday and monday due to them exhausting their limit. Even test payments of $100 get declined. All in all the method is not exactly reliable.

their website now claims a max of $10k/card.

I can't even get past the verifying source card. says the amounts don't match but they do!

Yes, but /pay has an aggregate reseller limit that's on their end, which FFers seem to greatly contribute in hitting :P. I actually have a contact in the company so this comes straight from the horse's mouth.
