ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

It depends which bank you are with and whether they have implemented the New Payments Platform. The New Payments Platform (NPP) supports new and innovative payments experiences both now and in the future. - NPPA

Payments are instantaneous, even between banks, if NPP is in use. And I thought it didn't matter whether it was weekday, weekend or public holiday. That was my understanding anyway.

We just sold a $400k piece of plant and settlement was at 7pm last night. It was a domestic transaction and funds we visible in our account by the time I could login to online banking.

I know this discussion was about transferring money in between accounts in preparation for paying the ATO, but it would be ideal if the Reserve Bank had NPP enabled for those last minute "oh cough" transfers. Unfortunately the ATO is still without NPP/Osko/PayID:

Your financial institution may offer real-time payment services using Osko or PayID.
The ATO is working towards improving the payment options available, but for now:
  • the ATO doesn't have a PayID - use the above ATO bank account details
  • payments you make to the ATO may take up to 4 business days to appear on your ATO account when a valid PRN has been provided.

EBP seems to have smartened up their act and it looks like ATO payments with a visa/MC card will be 0.8% (less first $1000 per month fee-free). This is a fairly tight margin over the ATO direct fee of 0.7/0.78%. Opens up all the cards back into the game. Or am I missing something?

Hi Cove,
Didn't realise Bankwest World is no longer available for ATO. I must have missed it. Where was the
info. Cheers

I go directly on the ATO site.
Last month I had two that I paid with a phone call because the payment code would not fit. Worked fine to call my old girlfriend.

Anyone ready for Labor’s new 30% tax rate on trusts?
Irrelevant now, but I was simply going to pay the beneficiaries an income for the highly detailed and valuable work they do for me.
That was much easier to work out than some of the codes in this thread.
