ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Looks to me like co-branded Amex cards are not affected. YMMV of course. So, my Plat Edge CC and the Green charge is down to 0.5/$ but the Velocity Amex is still at 1.5/$

Yeap my QF/Amex ultimate still brings in 1.5 per $

This month we plan to use 4 generous points earning cards from Visa and MasterCard and nothing for Amex as their points cost about double or more in the "new enhanced" 1.45% fee.
Citibank Kris Select points get a priority position then Citibank Qantas Select, BankWest and one other.
Anyway that plan could vary but there is 2 clear weeks to handle this labour that I love doing.

Has anyone used the Qantas Staff Credit Union Platinum Visa card to pay ATO?

I read the T&C, which states that ineligible transactions include the following:

  • Balance transfers
  • Cash advances
  • Special promotions
  • Purchases of foreign currency or traveller’s cheques
  • Business Expenses
  • BPAY transactions
  • Any fee or charge, including any government charges or duties and any fee or charge for your membership of and participation in the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program

The last dot point would suggest that ATO payments are NOT eligible...<sigh> I was getting all hopeful for a moment...:(

Thanks all for your interpretations. I'm game to try and see whether I get rewarded any points- it's PAYG tax only, and a small sum at that (relative to all you business people!) which keeps my QFF account ticking along. Will report back on how I go! :)

Happy to report that I was indeed credited with QFF points by the QSCU Plat Visa for ATO payment- yay! Thanks again all for your helpful reassurances :p

Thanks for reporting this to the community, will make others more comfortable using this card for ATO now...

Yesterday I had Mrscove do her first two ATO credit card payments with my girlfriend. My ATO girlfriend handled her smoothly so lesson over.
I figured I had better show her how to do it just in case I put my head into a pizza.

Now that Mrscove has bonded with my FF points fairy the sky is without limits.
I had decided after more than 3 and a half years I needed to have her know bits of the ATO game.
It is all good fun.

And how does Mrscove feel about you having an affair?

It's OK I only have one more call to wrap up the ATO amount by 21st. It is harder just using non Amex cards as it involves going to the limits and then re-loading the Visa and MasterCards. Currently this cuts the cost by more than half based on the cards I chose to use this month. It is all very good out there in points land.

Disaster!! Just got back my 2011/2 tax return from the accountant; will be getting a small refund so no tax to pay.....................can't believe I'm a little upset about this!!:confused:

Unfortunately I think I'm going to be in the same boat thanks to hearty tax deductible personal contributions to my superannuation and a significant donation to a charity... yes who would have thought we would all be dreading a tax refund....all thanks to JS starting this thread three and a half years ago...

Now that is terrible news.....and such a shock......can I join you??
I would love to pay no taxes, no levies and no surcharges but it isn't going to happen.

Who said anything about not paying taxes, levies and surcharges?
Just got my tax return back from the accountant. Not happy with the flood levy I got slugged; won't mention the actual amount as it would give my taxable income away but lets just say I could have done a fair bit of travel on it!

So let's say you got 2k back and were hoping for a bill of 5k, then you are 7k up on the deal, in terms of opportunity cost! So go out and buy a J return to Europe...... for cash! Perish the thought!!!

Smallest violin is currently playing for you cove, considering how many points you have earned compared to us mere mortals! ;)
