ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

The clause is back from the days when there were various government duties levied on accounts, such as financial institutions duties. The clause was to exclude those charges

Does anyone have experience using the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum (ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum - Platinum Credit Cards | ANZ) to make ATO payments?

I'm concerned by clause 22(a) that says points "will not accrue in relation to . . . government charges . . ." I'm assuming that ATO is not a government charge in this sense.

Yes, have used that card frequently. BUT (and this will probably be enough to have me banned from AFF) I am hopeless at checking my points crediting! (Ducks head in shame and to avoid flying missiles.)

What's the go with the chatter around Citibank not awarding ATO payments with points? Paid last week with my Signature and got my points....?

See post #1,643

I used Sig select 3 weeks ago and got the points too so I hope it's wrong but I used CBA Amex yesterday until I know what's going on

Was it Signature or Select that you used? The post referred to Select only, and it appears that Signature cardholders are still receiving points for ATO, though how long this remains the case is another matter I guess.

I will be making a payment today so will take the punt on the Signature card (only .5 points for Amex and higher surcharge) and will report back the result.

Citi told me today that points from ATO payments will now be zero.
It is now time to dust off your Plan B and go elsewhere.

No I have always had a plan B and while it won't be less costly there are more points produced. The ATO can give you a tax deduction for some of the increased costs in some cases so it will still work for most of our AFF crowd.
Two of my partners are doing their first Suites ride on Saver Kris points so the benefits are there.

Yes, Citi cards were a good option but certainly not the only option!

Signature the one with the $700 annual fee that now pays nothing with the ATO apparently :(

So we move to the CBA Diamond Amex & learn to love Qantas although I've still got plenty VA left

Gutted to hear that, as I took out a Citibank Select card purely to maximise points from a forthcoming large tax bill.

Anyway, in terms of Plan B, I also have a Westpac Altitude Platinum Plus Amex – am I correct that it will still get me 1.5 SQ or Velocity points per $? I realise that those points come at hefty 1.45% fee, but that would be better than nothing.

But as I still have about 6 weeks before my tax bill will be due, I do still have time to apply for another card if it was going to give a better return. I’m assuming no other Amex is going to be any better, but are there any other Visa or MC options that still pay 1 point or more per $? I’m not interested in direct earn Qantas or Emirates cards.

interesting. what is the supposed effective date for that? I paid a large tax bill last week and the points are already in my QF account.

I think there may be a difference between what some reps are saying and what is actually happening.

If true, what uncapped options remain?

cheers

Very interesting news, CSR's aren't always the most knowledgable about these things, to say the least.
