Auckland QF J lounge is disgustingly filthy, worn out, and with s*^t food. Get it remodelled now Qantas!

Ok, so heard a rumour yesterday and let me preface this by saying it was from a crew member and we know how Chinese whispers can happen at QF......

I also want to say for all the usual screechers - don’t flame the messenger, I’m just passing it on and personally I don’t believe it but here it is:

Rumour is that QF is in talks with EK to take their space at AKL as well. Apparently plans were drawn for the new QFi standard combined lounge as per all the press releases then EK started flagging withdrawals from NZ.

I’m not sure how this would work but just chucking it on the fire!

Whether true or not, in my mind that actually makes commercial sense. Since EKs withdrawal from AKL, I was surprised that they would want to keep a lounge open for a couple of flights.

Looks like they’ve given up on that one. At least the sign is now speaking the truth (unlike those endless teasers abc rumours about the upcoming renovation which they is still not any trace of).

Saying that- food is quite alright today for a change (beef cheeks- funnily a favourite in both the Air NZ lounge and even the Strata lounge straight opposite! Also, champagne available and plentiful and as always nice ice cream too.

When I travel to AKL I had always tried to align my return flight to when the EK was open as I think the QF F and J lounge is disgraceful. IMO it would make sense for QF to take over the entire QF/EK space and create some type of OW and Partner lounge.

The QF website still states the lounge has not one but multiple showers: Airport lounge locations | Qantas.
In the Emerald lounge there's been a shower in the non gender specific hallway area and one inside the M area since the 90's.

I know not about the W area.

It's the one in the M area that is defunct.

Even if there are showers- given the overall poor state of this lounge (and its toilet facilities), imagining what a showed would look like in there gives me shivers and bring back long forgotten childhood trauma from the swimming pool facilities during PE class  In other words: No, thank you.

I last used the 'non gender specific' one in December - it was fine.

Re the QF lounge, just had a text from SWMBO and she say "Lounge isn’t too bad looks like there are some new chairs etc". Who knows, maybe they have done some work

Really? Maybe in the Business bit, the First “booth” looked as old and coughpy as always on Friday.

And ‘some new chairs’ is actually rather scary as this would hint at no proper renovation any time soon. Not that this would be a surprise

Don’t know about your booth but this thread was originally about the J lounge

Both parts are equally coughpy if you ask me. The Business part has more seating, the First part has champagne (if you're lucky).

QF WP, in J on QF 158 (MEL-AKL) yesterday, was told that i would be the last QF passenger let into the EK Lounge for the day. Was also told that if not for QF WP, I would not have been allowed in notwithstanding flying J.

Apparently as QF does not codeshare on the remaining EK Flights out of AKL (EK449/451), the lounge isn't subject to reciprocal rules?

Had exactly the same comment the other day- delivered with LOADS of pissy attitude: "You're lucky to get in, definitely the last Qantas customer who I let in today". Get inside- hardly anyone else in the lounge  A "Partnership" certainly looks different, I felt awful.

Visited AKL lounge for the first time yesterday , I was directed to the left side which I guess is the First/Emerald side (I was WP flying J), although it seemed like a normal business lounge in terms of amenities. The same sign pictured in the post on 26 July was present on the shower room. I wasn't hungry so didn't try the food but it looked okay-ish (again, to business lounge expectations). I didn't quite realise that I must have been directed into the First/Emerald side until reading this thread.

Yep- the left side through the glass door is what Qantas is calling "First". Which is a total joke in my eyes, especially at busy times.

As a consequence of QF cancelling AKL - SYD afternoon flight last Saturday I was re-booked on VA144 (J). I went to the Strata lounge - much better food choice, more modern and airy layout - QF need to lift their game.

My partner always praises that lounge but the couple of times I've been there, I didn't rate it all- full to the brim, only two unisex toilets which sucks big time if you're a man who just wants to do a quick number 1 and not the best selection of booze either. But I'm not a big fan of the AirNZ lounge either because they seem to think that no one wants hot food past 2pm which is just idiotic. So, in summary, all the lounges in AKL suck (besides the EK one which is brilliant, especially if you consider it's officially a "Business" lounge) which explains why Qantas takes their time to do anything about theirs.

More hot food (party pies, quiches, braised beef cheek, roasted vegs, creamy pasta, plain rice) than you could poke a stick at last Saturday with maybe 20 pax in lounge while I was there.
