Australia v India Test Series: General Discussion

This Test Series has certainly been enthralling to date. More twists and turns than the best whoddunit and of course it is complete with a Super-Villain Mastermind!

Never been so glad to be wrong. I was thinking all out before lunch at the start of play and when we went 4 down I thought I might still be correct. But credit to Marsh and Handscomb, they didn't really look like getting out. India might have been unlucky with the "umpire's call" on the reviews. However, if you gave those out you'd be saying that ball tracking is 100% accurate where clearly it isn't, or at least, we can never know for sure. Commentators have been saying for a while that a team using the DRS shouldn't lose reviews for "umpire's call" and I think that's fair enough. We'll see that happen in the next year or so.

Looking forward to the big finale. Let's hope it's not decided by the toss. A nice high elevation ground (over 2000m) so a lot cooler than other grounds in India. Should be a bit easier for the pacemen. I wonder if the same four bowlers will play. Note that they are all from NSW. Starc too. Also Jackson Bird originally.

Agreed for an LBW reviewed where by the fielding team where DRS shows the ball hitting the stumps. But of course not for one reviewed by the batsman where it's "umpire's call" as to whether it's hitting the stumps.

There's been a chorus of silence from the professional commentators who were slagging off Smith's tactics at the time. I still think he should have tried a few more things before India got away with the 7th wicket partnership. It's as though Smith just doesn't like all-rounders.

  • Hazlewood, 44 overs, 1/103
  • coughmins, 39 overs, 4/106
  • O'Keefe, 77 overs, 3/199
  • Lyon, 46 overs, 1/163
  • Maxwell, 4 overs, 0/13

The designated all-rounder playing at 6 has bowled a grand total of 13 overs during the course of our last 7 innings.

The only way AUST will be batting last is if India push past 600 and we get rolled on a deteriorating pitch for less than 150.

Take a bow...I see Aus bowled out before lunch with Smith remaining not out. This is almost identical to one of the Eng vs Ind Tests.

You and me both :o

I wonder whether DRS actually has enough distance to accurately calculate the arc of the ball and where it's going to hit.

Well, Smith is from NSW as well....

Particularly weird as he was one when he came into the Test arena.... :o

The last day of the 3rd test made the Courier Mail 7 pages from back page yesterday.

Some stupid article related to Broncos training was back page. Sorry didn't bother reading the back page article. I think it was Broncos training.

The Indian Tests really should have been on Free to Air, considering it was on in primetime.

Obviously reality shows are more popular? Or make more money? Or something I'll never understand....

They are starting to fall in popularity as the contestants are picked for shock value rather than any talent.

And more and more are just wanna be actors/models etc chasing their 2 minutes

Yes the timing was perfect for evening viewing on one of Nine's spare channels. They say the rights cost too much but then Foxtel can afford it and one it was plain the series was not going to be 0-4 someone should have jumped on it. That was the risk I guess. A drubbing wouldn't bring in the ratings. This is looking like the 2005 Ashes.

India looking like an utter shambles today, dropping Warner first ball cannot have been good for the morale despite Renshaw getting out next over.

Pretty much the perfect start after winning the toss.
