Probably the same that came out of my mouth when I heard they had halved the capsA massive tirade of words came out of my mouth that would have me banned from AFF for this life and the next
That was what I thought - if NSW said they could still handle it, it makes them all look hysterical and stupidSky are reporting NSW was rolled by the other states, and as the federal government is what determines the caps, they had no choice.
Gladys says she has to respect the decision of national cabinet.
I'm disgusted. It's one thing to reduce your own cap but to reduce the cap of another state against their will? The one who was bringing in 50% of Australians?
Is this so they don't look bad in comparison?

Mark McGowan in WA said exactly the same thing as well a couple of months ago. Common sense approach.I was feeling optimistic this morning that we might get some idea of when borders would open when both the QLD and ViC Premiers suggested that borders might open when everyone had been offered a vaccination. This is a reasonable suggestion.
Annastacia’s surprising vaccination target
Annastacia Palaszczuk says Australia’s international borders should reopen once everyone has been offered the vaccine, irrespective of actual vaccination rates.www.news.com.au
But this decision to cut international arrivals by 50% is ludicrous, cruel and uneccessary. And forcing NSW to cut by the other Premiers is totally unacceptable. Our PM should have shown leadership and insisted that the other States did not have the right to dictate what NSW does.
SA asked for a reduction of 75 from approx 600. They ended up with a reduction of 300+. We currently only have around 15 positive cases and that includes the miners family of five. People are isolating but in their homes and people appear to be compliant. I just don't know why we aren't coping with that number. That was what I thought - if NSW said they could still handle it, it makes them all look hysterical and stupid
I believe that question was asked to the CHO and she said yes. But it was unclear. So back to Brisbane - if people, who live outside of Brisbane/Moreton Bay LGAs, work or have been in Brisbane/Moreton Bay, do they have to lock down as well (like Sydney did)?
if NSW said they could still handle it, it makes them all look hysterical and stupid
It’s just a straight 50% of everyone’s existing capsIt does.
Not te mention one reason Qld, WA and Vic HQ is stretched is becuase they are putting low risk interstate travellers into HQ because of their domestic border policy.
It will be interesting to see how this pitiful new cap is distributed around the country. It really ought be done on basis of population, Scomo should not just allow them to halve current caps given the 3 states calling fir the reduction were all already on reduced caps.
The number of positives arriving from overseas hasnt been rapidly growing over the last week.

Incorrect
SA has repeatedly spruiked the 80% target
Yes, the definition must be about "offer", that is the only thing that is under their control. The consequences of the offer is completely out of their control although they've done a fine job in trashing the message. Now, it is a complex moving feast and that needs to be explained but they just have a knack of messing up the message. They need to get flyingmermaid as their spokesperson.I’d be happy if the target was 80% of over 50’s have been offered the vaccine.
I don’t know why anyone thinks we are going to get to 80% of the population.
as virus went looking for a new home.
That's exactly what's happening.
Perth is only doing ~250/week
Perth already halved their cap earlier this year, so halved again. Why bother at all?
Just lock everyone up and forget about international travel. Oh except celebrities, politicians and sportspeople ...
Only those who want to see their families who live here, like my son does. Who had a ticket to arrive here on 15 August, which will no doubt not happen now. Who I haven't seen since January 2020. Who has never met his new niece. Whose 87 year old grandmother is having surgery for serious melanoma next week. Whose work is insisting that he take his accumulated leave, so who is going today, for a 3 week holiday in Croatia, Germany and Slovakia - having also visited Ukarain, Georgia and Uzbekistan earlier this year. Whilst half our population is in lockdown, and I can't really go anywhere at the moment, and even when I can, it's always praying that there won't be a snap lockdown. The irony is, with the world going back to normal, very few people will want to come home now.
You're not one of those "the virus is a single sentiment being" people are you?
