Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

'Leadership' is a strong word. More like the 'Gatekeepers'.Those that just want to pull up the drawbridge at any sign of trouble. What we need are people that deal with the issue and have plans to get us out. Not go crying it's too hard at every turn.

I disagree. It is those leaders from those particular states that participate in the National Cabinet that makes decisions. They forced the cuts on arrival numbers. You just have to call them for who they are.

Here's a direct quote from Gladys: "I don't support the view that other premiers have that this means mistakes aren't going to happen and we won't have outbreaks".
Which doeent use the word zero at all.

You guys are splitting hairs here!

The clear point from Gladys was she thinks the risk of HQ doesn't reduce all that much in line with the scale, implying that other states believe by cutting the caps you cut the risk.

I think stats would back her up on that. The number of HQ leaks don't correlate with the respective state's cap.

At least in the effort to curb the virus spread and get us out of this hot mess, ATAGI has been booted to the curb and will have no part to play in setting the vaccination targets that will then be used to determine open dates, restrict use or border closures and lockdowns. Will be handled by a seperate committee. Certain state CHO’s to be involved. I wonder who will not be invited ;)
Hopefully not SA as the rate of 80% has already been touted.

Incorrect
SA has repeatedly spruiked the 80% target

Would that normally not come under ATAGI’s banner anyway or are you saying they would normally have a say in these things?

Outbreaks aren't going to happen = zero outbreaks.
Mistakes aren't gong to happen = zero mistakes.

Nope that how you interpret it. I realise you very much dislike how NSW manages Covid, but Gladys has actually been very measured this morning after a completely unacceptable outcome from National Cabinet. Suggest you watch last nights Q&A to see how Anna in particular does want zero risk (except when it is ok for her to travel).

You're possibly being too literal here, and may not be familiar with the way Gladys speaks. She often uses phrases like that - other premiers are a little more optimistic; Gladys is a bit of a bad news up front person (ie, pragmatic).

I guess that's because she's not pretending NSW can eliminate covid whereas other states do.

Well its good someone else is finally also tabling a number, but 80% of what (adults, everyone)‽

FYI NSW needs 10 million doses delivered.

Actually no, I think they've done a very good job. A friend was just messaging me now complaining about the PM thanking NSW re HQ and I said to him they completely deserve that praise. Do I believe they have handled this most recent outbreak as well as they could, IMO no, but that's just my opinion. I think the issue you're having here is the god complex you have build up around NSW gov / health and their systems. It's upsetting for you to see so many errors happening, I mean we had the CHO once again talking about Crossways Hotel this morning...mistakes with real consequences. The outcome from national cabinet has clearly given you an outlet...so go for it.

I think we can agree ALL states have and continue to make mistakes - and WILL CONTINUE TO make mistakes. Victoria least of all knows that!

It's interesting seeing the Queenslanders vs the Victorians on this forum, quite a difference. Interpret from that what you will.

I was feeling optimistic this morning that we might get some idea of when borders would open when both the QLD and ViC Premiers suggested that borders might open when everyone had been offered a vaccination. This is a reasonable suggestion.

But this decision to cut international arrivals by 50% is ludicrous, cruel and uneccessary. And forcing NSW to cut by the other Premiers is totally unacceptable. Our PM should have shown leadership and insisted that the other States did not have the right to dictate what NSW does.

I do think that other state leaders view the NSW government as having a "God Complex" (and their incessant banging on about the 'Gold Standard' tag which has never been claimed locally - it was given by the PM, and specifically related to contact tracing)

I can't think of any other motive for other states insisting NSW reduces its caps.

Editing post because I can hear the mods coming....

That is a digusting claim and factually untrue.

Please refraine from speaking about what i feel, as you clearly have no emotional intelligence and have no clue.

Im not upset about errors which are fixable and certainly not the the minor glitch re Crossways which you seem obsessed with. The venue name was corrected in under a day, the mention today of cases in nousehold contacts is not unexpected, the dates for exposures 23-27th have been constant for days.

I am apalled at the decisions made today re arrivals and saddened about what this means for Australia

As a pragmatist i get frustrated that instead of adressing the issues some states have deflected and reduced arrivals. That fails to address the people who were negligent and processes that had gaps. It hurts us as a whole whilst doing nothing to keep us safer.

I do not agree with covid zero as the goal (something again being forced on everyone because of some states), we have to learn to live with Covid.

I would think the reasoning they (not me) might give is, as demonstrated recently, that outbreaks cross state lines.

Which would be valid if those states didn't close their borders to said hotspot (hint: they all did)

outbreaks cross state lines

Conveniently forgetting that this has happened in other states including:
Crossroads seeded from Victoria (the largest cluster in NSW as it includes Thai Rock).
Adelaide HQ seeding Melbourne cases.
Brisbane HQ seeding the mining cluster in NT/SA/NSW
Brisbane HQ seeding the Portuguese cluster.

Given states closed their borders to NSW shouldnt have any say on whether NSW wants arrivals or not.
