...and how do you open Redlands when Carindale is right next door (used to live in Cleveland, nearest shopping centre with larger retail (eg Myers) was Carindale).

I used to live in Carindale and before that Wellington Point - I know the area well!

When I lived in Wellington Point, Capalaba only had the one shopping centre that didn't have cinemas, so yep we went to Carindale all the time.

And this was my point, Carindale is a major centre that is not restricted to residents to the CoBrisbane.

I think these numbers might spook other states - and AP needs some deflection.

I'm tipping possible closure of the NSW border later today, excluding border zone.

I agree, it’s great that they are mostly linked but still quite a few roaming around whilst infectious. If that number was lower I think there would be less worried state CHO’s.

Gladys seems to be hinting that some people aren’t doing the right thing and isolating.

I wonder if it was this increase in cases that made VIC declare all of NSW amber? The states share information before released to the public so they would have known. Seemed out of the blue otherwise (but makes more sense today).

CHO is wrong about Sydney domestic airport previously being listed as a casual contact venue. I have been wondering about this ever since the party guest flew SYD-MEL on 20/6. At no time did NSW Health list it as an exposure site after that, not until the food court error.

In SA:

A baby in South Australia has tested positive to COVID-19

The fourth child of a miner's family – a baby – has tested positive to COVID-19 in Adelaide's medi-hotel.
All six family members have the Delta variant.
SA Premier Steven Marshall last night wrote to the Prime Minister requesting a reduction in the state's international arrivals cap.
He's concerned that the hotel is nearing capacity, but says this was "superseded" by developments at National Cabinet.
The state's current coronavirus restrictions - including a limit on private gatherings of 10 people in Greater Adelaide - will be maintained for the foreseeable future.

Gladys confirmed the international arrivals have been cut

Sounds like NSW will be reducing caps in line with national cabinet.

Sky are reporting NSW was rolled by the other states, and as the federal government is what determines the caps, they had no choice.

Gladys says she has to respect the decision of national cabinet.

I'm disgusted. It's one thing to reduce your own cap but to reduce the cap of another state against their will? The one who was bringing in 50% of Australians?

Is this so they don't look bad in comparison?

She indicated NSW were forced to reduce targets. She apologised that less Australians will be able to get home and stressed that reducing arrivals wont make any difference wrt to community cases because other states have had smaller caps and that hasn't stopped their mistakes.

I very much doubt any other premier said that reducing caps would lead to zero risk. That's what she claimed but I don't believe it. They have spoken about reducing, not eliminating risk. Just to be clear I'm not saying I support reducing the caps but Gladys was misrepresenting their comments here.

This is exactly what happened.

It was widely reported last night that Qld, Vic and WA were banding together to lobby for reductions, AP did not dispute this when asked on Q&A last night. She kept on about her system being under stress and twice commented it "must" be same in other states. Everytime asked about Qld failings she kept deflecting mentioning NSW.

It is absolutely disgusting that those xenophobic leaders choose not to focus on fixing the issues and failings of their own HQ and Health systems, but deflect attention by forcing the states that were doing all the heavy lifting to do less. Itsbad enough to reduce their tiny caps further, unforgivable to dictate to NSW.

SA had applied for a reduction by 75 before the meeting.

I can see we've got some new lingo...."last resort lockdowns". Who defines a last resort?

😞 I agree with most of what you say but the xenophobic tag really only belongs on a few of the ‘leadership’ team in Queensland.... I haven’t heard anything really from the other states to indicate they are xenophobic (unless I missed it). Misguided in other ways sure.

Anna on Q&A last night absolutely claimed needed reductions everywhere to reduck risk. Failing to recognise that freight still needs to happen and the latest NSW outbreak was from freight crew.

Im not sure why you mention zero risk, Gladys understands risk and that it is not zero and never can be. Actions show all other Premieres are less risk tolerant.

Federal government will be stemming some of the gap with more Qantas repatriation flights into the NT.

Devastated that a vax target wasn’t set to stop stupid lockdowns and border closures.

Some leaders have floated 80% before borders open - which by the way has been achieved by no one, anywhere. It’s far too high.
