Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

So much waffle from Chant on this one in the presser.

I'm sure I recall discussions about CRM software last year. No doubt some metallic standards were mentioned.

Wouldn't the minister be a contact in CRM and the multiple cases would be clearly visible?
Gladys looked a bit cranky when asked about Minister Dominello, walked off and ended the media conference.

Well the questioning was clearly alluding to did a government minister used their position to request to have their contact status downgraded from close to casual. That seems far fetched. As it was asked over and over again these things become pointless.

But the overall explanation should simply have been...we didn't use our systems properly. It's inconceivable that the CRM system doesn't support the concept of 1 to many for contacts vs cases / interactions. Maybe they're using a whiteboard. :D

It wasn't quite like that - certainly not in the same league as AP's presser. If you listen carefully one of her staff yells "last questions" which is the warning it's wrapping up - how much further that goes I guess depends on their discretion.

I see the argument for putting a time limit on it - as long as until that time limit is up all questions are treated equally and answered. The issue I had with AP's vs Gladys is even early on in the presser AP was picking and choosing what questions to answer (and as we now see has become the story in its own right which is a terrible outcome for her)

I think Gladys was getting annoyed because she made her point that it's up to NSW Health, not her, to determine isolation requirements, but the questions kept getting directed at her. I thought Kerry Chant gave a perfectly good explanation but that's just my opinion (and I'll note this isn't a left wing/right wing thing - Labor are backing NSW Health on this - the noise is coming from the Nationals).

But as I said I also see Dan's argument for answering every question regardless of time - but his definitely did go on for a long time which may or may not have been a good use of his (and his health official's time).

I very much agree. Reporters often seem more interested in scoring a gotcha than informing the public.

A family member just received a call from NSW Health identifying him as a casual contact after going to the Olympic Park vaccination centre in Homebush. Not sure if this has been announced publicly.
This would just scare people off getting vaccinations, we'll never get out of this mess.

Do you know what day he was there? And which vaccine?

Different categories of recipients i.e. essential workers/families and general public and different vaccines are given in different rooms.

As people moved to the next step I was watching staff clean down all the chairs, tables etc - hopefully its a very small window as thousands go through there every day

You wouldn't think that check in agents would have contact with inbound travellers. I guess we'll see, seems more likely to have a common link with the DFO link either direct (went there for lunch) or a missing link.
I was thinking that it is more likely that the check in agent may have had contact with a Qatar air crew/cabin crew who had the COVID.

So - We have 4 TVs in our office communal area... and the QLD presser started and our big big boss came over and turned off all of them. This is a very senior healthcare exec in QLD...

He said ‘this isn’t funny any more, it’s dangerous what they are doing and I won’t stand for this misinformation being spread for political gain and we don’t tolerate racism in this office either. After yesterday we will not be watching this.’
Well it certainly sounds like the big big boss has taken onboard the messages about "the standard that you walk past is the standard that you accept", and has modelled that behaviour very clearly for others to note and follow, which is to be applauded IMO.

Steven miles is stoking xenophobia, saying the majority of arrivals are foreign nationals, not citizens

Conveniently not saying that most of them are permanent residents or immediate family members of citizens / PRs

Edit: For the record, the stats are (I didn't even consider that he'd include NZ as foreign):
  • 44,600 Australian citizens arrivals (39%)
  • 9,900 permanent visa holders (9%)
  • 52,300 New Zealand citizens (45%)
  • 10,100 temporary visa holders (9%)
Spoiler alert: I totally agree with @justinbrett and others about the xenophobia but....Miles is apparently technically correct that "the majority are foreign nationals" if you go 45% Kiwis plus 9% temporary visa holders = 54%. It's just so very, very misleading, and likely not what people in the public are thinking at all when he says "foreign nationals". You know what they say about lies, damn lies and statistics. That's a very tricky use of statistics to warp a point, maybe for political reasons, in my opinion.

That’s right, “to show the correct placement of an oxygen mask.” QF keeps theirs on during the demo and they even gesture taking off the face mask first before putting on the oxygen one.
Yes on my recent flights the QF crew kept their mask on during safety demo exactly as stated by @flyingfan and I found the little mime of removing and throwing away the face mask quite sweet!

15 months back "we are all in this together" was the call, it was painful and somewhat novel, sure some did it tougher than others. My sense now is there are an ever increasing number of Ausis who may feel like we are just in the 'downward spiral of despair'. Our elected politicians who are playing one upmanship and I may not be correct, however I would be confident in suggesting that the pollies and other government bureaucrats have not have been financially impacted (personally). From what I have read QLD pollies voted to approve 3 pay rises in short succession to claw back what may has been missed.

There was a bit of an uproar last year about Peta Credlin and then Leigh Sales at the Vic pressers and other journos came out in their defence; the basic justification for this kind of thing is if you know there's more to the story, you're trying to force them into actually telling the truth instead of sidestepping it. And sometimes it takes repeated questioning to draw out that "mistake", ie the truth.
Apparently, it's like sausages: no-one wants to see them made, but the results are worth it. Right now, when we watch the pressers, we're watching the sausage being made.

Just another example of sensationalism journalism and adds to the journey to the 'spiral of despair' we are on. The police forces around AU are most likely embarrassed by the behaviours of our political leaders, but just have to suck it up.

Police were happy to give fines to MPs - they've got to set the standard. I dare say NSW Police were far more embarrassed by this cop.

The one in Queensland was much more entertaining, and caught on video:
