Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I just wish Gladys would stop floating around her 80% vaccination target thought bubble for opening up... and modify it to 80% offered or something 😞

Seems Gladys is pushing for 80% of adult population to be vaccinated and the Feds are 80% of all population. Neither of which will be achieved IMO

Well until the expert panel comes up with a different number I think using 80% as an aspriational goal without explicitly saying /labelling it as such is completely fine. % vaccinated are low in NSW relative to the rest of the nation and NSW Government needs to use all its powers of persuasion, not just hope this covid spike does the job.

Great to see much lower numbers and proportion of positives in the community while infectious in Sydney - hopefully similar or better for the next 2 days so NSW/Sydney can get out from lockdown as scheduled

Well that’s what the vaccine is for! The two vaccinated should hopefully be ok. Best wishes for a non-event :)

The one who is not vaccinated - that’s unfortunate if they decided not to get the vaccine.
Quoting Dr Chant in the Australian:

“Late last night, that came back to indicate that three of the people at that facility – residents of that facility – a woman in her 80s, a man in his 80s, and a man in his 90s. Now, pleasingly, those three individuals were fully vaccinated.

Edit: The report went on to say that the three had been offered the chance to move to Westmead Hospital but are understood to be well and in good spirits.

One new community case in Perth today. The man is the partner of a previous case and has been in quarantine since June 26 and is thus not considered to have been infectious while out in the community.

#BREAKING 3 residents at Summit Care’s Baulkham Hills nursing home have tested positive overnight. 2 of 3 were fully vaxxed with Pfizer vaccine & transferred to Westmead. All showing no symptoms and in good spirits. 96% of 149 residents vaxxed. Thoughts with all families #Covid

It’s this sort of sensationalist BS that needs to end. No wonder the general public are behaving like petrified lunatics.

How can 2 people testing positive for a virus they’re vaccinated against (and have not a single symptom and wouldn’t even know they were “positive” without being tested) be “breaking news”. And what thoughts would be with the families?

Might as well send me a txt saying their “thoughts are with me” as I recover from a mild hangover this morning 🙄

They’re in “good spirits”. Hopefully happy hour has started early at SummitCare.

Well aren't you lucky it all worked out for you

Luck has nothing to do with it, we took action, followed a process available to everyone. I made sure my parents didn't sit back waiting for their GP who isnt doing vaccines. I helped them with the technology.

Which means they will not have significant immunity until December. Are they expendable because they haven't had the internet savvy or other ability to seek out an earlier vaccination?

So why didn't you help them find an alternative supplier to their GP earlier (there is still time)? Or why didn't their GP assist them with an RC appointment?

Allowing fully vaccinated people to move about domestically isn't making you relatives expendable, be sensible.

Unvaccinated people can stay restricted whilst allowing vaccinate people greater freedoms.

That's a matter of interpretation.

Personally fact that they were vaccinated and are asymptomatic is good news. It shows now even if a worker has done the wrong thing and delayed getting vaccinated (and even worse gone to work with symptoms) that those residents who did the right thing and chose to get vaccinated are not seriously ill. This will hopefully will convince the 4% of residents who declined vaccination to go get the jab now.

The virus got into unvaccinated aged care last year and killed hundreds, we should see a very different outcome this year. People need to hear about the better outcomes.

I suspect that most of us have reached the point that we are far more scared of the reactions from the various 'leaderships' than we are of the virus. That will be the dampener on any travel, or economic recovery.

Latest reported tracing locations in NSW restates the requirement to isolate for 14 days if you were on VA524 26 June as there has been multiple transmissions on board.

Interesting as all airlines have emphasised mask wearing and the filtration systems on board. However if a case is highly infectious these measures won’t help, especially when people remove masks to eat (and drag it out for half the sector length)

Excellent news :) (The decrease in both the total of new cases, and in the number who were in the community while infectious)

Testing rates down because it's a Sunday, so likely that explains why cases are down.

Back in the main Melbourne lockdown last year we saw weekend dips as well.

But the media reports it like this:
they were vaccinated but still got Covid and are asymptomatic is good news
And they are in HOSPITAL!!!

I am seeing people “allegedly” abuse the testing and isolation rule to get a day off work but what can you do if your main message is “get tested if you have ANY symptoms”.

You generally don’t need to do this on a weekend.

Unfortunately many passengers pretend to eat or drink for whole flight so they dont stay masked up, others dont wear them properly and kids dont have to be masked. As stated before id love to know know if those on flight who didnt get covid had better mask compliance than those who did?

I always wear an n95 on flights since there is no social distancing possible.

I have taken to flying business class exclusively to improve my social distancing… it’s a burden but I am just following the health advice.

they are in HOSPITAL

I watched the interview with the aged care facility manager she said they moved 2 to hospital to assist with isolation not because they were unwell.

Yes it’s a public health measure not medically required. Wonder if the media will report that?

Yes, me too. However, because of reschedules/cancellations, my last 2 flights were in Y, and I had a whole row of three to myself on both flights. Even more burdensome...

To be fair most politicians who do this are cynical populists, i.e. they are only acting this way because they know their actions will be popular. If you are going to be measured by popularity (which essentially is what voting is largely about) then you really cant blame people who are in a system that promotes popularity not to recognise and take advantage of this.

As such its a little unfair on politicians to blame them for the way we are incentivising them to act.

Entertaining to hear about "wacko views". Around this time last year official policy was anti mask.
