Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Yes and no.

More than 1 going essential shopping - now expected to be a rule for 1 per household
Exercise anywhere - now expected to be a rule of 10km limit or LGA

Verbal recommendations - try getting things online.

So there is an element of taking the rule to the nth degree.

Its not that surprising to be honest. It seems like Sydney was already taking the rules to the limits, rather than following the spirit of the health orders to stay at home unless undertaking one of the 4 well known reasons.

Will Sydney (edit: including Wollongong Blue Mountains and Central Coast) see further prescription in coming days??? Who knows???
And which part of that is not people taking the piss rather than following the rules, I’m struggling to find the no in this. More than 1 going shopping, how is that ‘essential’? Exercise anywhere, not sure where you exercise is really a problem, but the stopping and chatting, having a coffee and a gossip with everyone you meet maybe.

A passive aggressive kick at NSW in the first couple of lines

It really grinds my gears when McGowan bleats how well WA did

The population of the whole state is 2.6 million , there's more people in North Melbourne or Western Sydney alone then there is in the whole of WA.

Perth is one of the most remote cities in the world has a small spread out population , with very little apartment living and minimal public transport options.

For him to throw grenade's at VIC and NSW on "covid best practice" when the complexity of managing a pandemic is not even close to the east coast circumstances and challenges,

It's just childish and rude

Of course the WA seem to population eat it up

I say the above with no political agenda, for the record, I actually like both Dan Andrews and Gladys
I don't see any passive aggressive kick at NSW either. Perhaps he is actually congratulation his own State to make the population feel good?

A graphical representation of where cases are in Sydney from dbRaeven.
- 3 cases do not yet have LGA information

Or perhaps more that may have less mixing with the infected areas?

Or perhaps after having already gone through a major outbreak that they were more cautious and acted more prudently on this latest wave ?

Or just lucky.....
Or herd instincts!

Direct from the source! Information for organisations and businesses | Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). For applicable premises the last sentence indicates the operator must refuse entry. (Dunno about premises 'not applicable' to the directions.)

What if my customers don't want to use a QR code?
Checking in to applicable premises, and events is mandatory for all people.
If a person does not have a smartphone or is unable to use one, others attending the premises with that person can use their own phone to check that person in. Alternatively, an organisation can register a person's details using that organisations’ device. If there is no internet access or working device, the organisation can check them in manually on paper. This information must be retained by the organisation for 28 days or added into the app when access is restored.
Organisations must use their best endeavours to require people to check in, this could include:
  • Active monitoring of points of entry.
  • Requesting that a person shows staff the ‘green tick’.
  • Signage or messaging in clear view advising of the need to check in.
If a person refuses to check in, operators should highlight the importance of the check in requirements to assist the contact tracing efforts, and to keep the community safe and Tasmania open for businesses. Organisations may also want to remind people of their legal obligation to check in, and the potential penalties for failing to do so. That is, a person may face a fine if they fail to comply with the check in requirement.
After these efforts, if a person still refuses to check in, the operator of the premises or event must refuse entry as per the Direction Under Section 16 (Contact Tracing – No. 5) of the Public Health Act 1997.
Also direct from the source:

You may not refuse entry if a customer does not check in
A business must use their best endeavours to get customers to check in. If a customer refuses to check in, operators should highlight the importance of the check in requirements to assist the contact tracing efforts and to keep the community safe. If a customer still refuses, the responsibility is on the individual who refuses. Penalties may apply to that individual.

In SA the business is fined I think $12,000 as is the individual. They can refuse to have someone enter if they won't check in.

I will go with lucky. I'm on the Central Coast and have a neighbour who works in Sydney and regularly still has visitors over including last night and figure there is many like them and just a matter of time for one of these to spread it further.

I see what you mean! I thought Business Tasmania might have been some industry association but seems a government department or agency. Not such a good look - two government departments at odds with each other.

I'd take the rules as stated in the regulations/directions/orders over the interpretation of a department though. (Perhaps the official rules or FAQs were updated? Business Tasmania seems to have left off the last sentence beginning with 'After these efforts, if a person still refuses to check in, the operator of the premises or event must refuse entry...')

Albo is embarrassing himself by referring to the Sydney lockdown as "Scott Morrison's lockdown" due to the failure to implement national quarantine.

I thought maybe he was unaware this was caused by international aircrew, but then he went on to say that.

If we had quarantine facilities, the aircrew may not have been included in it (they do not stay in the normal pax hotels) and even if they did, they'd still need to be driven to it.

I'm not sure this blatant politicking goes down well on either side.

We now have a list of casual contact locations in Tasmania.
I wonder how many people are going to take heed of this?

It doesn't go down well in Victoria where we went in early, went in hard, and limited the lockdown to two weeks. 'Gold standard' NSW is going for a third week and gets all sorts of benefits such as Centrelink payments, even for those with savings.
That's blatant politicking right there.

Funny reading that.
You get to know the person's every movement.
For all to see.

I thought we had a new forum rule that everything had to be prefaced with "In my opinion..."?

Why bother, everything on here is opinion, it seems an excess to have to state that on every post.

Well technically, it is supposed to be Australian reports on the virus thread.

The issue is stating opinion as fact, especially when it comes to health specifics, and it only happens in a minority of posts. Many people share their expertise on this site (we have a few doctors and health professionals) so some know what they're talking about, others do not. In the era of fake news it should be clear what is fact and what is not.

I'm not saying I'm always innocent on this but I am happy to edit my posts if I'm called out for it.

Maybe NSW is trying to get back some of the money Victoria received in the their extended lock down last year. But me I would rather have more restrictions in place until vaccine rates are high enough to make a difference and instead of this continual lock down in each state.
