Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

It will be interesting to see the genomic result which strain he has. And that will in part determine on how strict a set of setting SA will run with.
Of course they are assuming Delta. I'm expecting 5 day lockdown. We were going away the week after son's zoom wedding to take our minds of that. Which of course starts in a couple of days,

Probably my imagination but it seemed a number of points raised today (by media) in the NSW press conference were noted in this thread recently.

Today I'm getting the sense that there is more asymptomatic transmission - hopefully not a sign of positives telling a white lie of not having symptoms to the contact tracers.

Its been awfully civilised across AFF threads for the past 24 hours - just like covid, bracing for the next outbreak/report.
i had already noticed that one poster has not appeared on this thread for 36 hours.Sincerely hope they are not one of the cases in ICU.

Yes prudent to assume that it is Delta, but it could also be Lambda etc. Hopefully for SA it is a less transmissible strain.

Phew. We are all safe again! (NSW Health claimed the early release of figures was an immense danger to public health - wait for it... because the figures weren't supported by commentary. So I'm relived that's one less thing to be challenged by 😷 😷)
Glad to see the full force of the State Govt was thrown on to the job of eradicating the early spread of correct public information.

The overtime required for the State Govt IT area is only in the low $$ millions. The Premier & senior media advisors did not hesitate to make the hard decisions.

Meanwhile back to the minor news, contact tracing still unable to find sources for 247 mystery cases in this outbreak, or just under 20% of all cases to date. During last December's outbreaks (4 separate but Northern Beaches got the publicity) - max mystery cases reached 18.

Shock, horror, connection to Fairfield found over the weekend. The man works in Westfield Bondi Junction.

Does anybody think that perhaps NSW Health could just tasked two local health bureaucrats or asked local police to have walked around the centre & asked the various shops in Bondi Westfield two weeks ago if they had any workers who lived there? Or perhaps asked the centre management to use their contact list to do so?

Latest increase to contact tracing teams take number above 500 personnel (including ADF).

(Evil?) WA only providing 5 contact tracers, announced at this mornings media briefing. "Only" was the word used by Brad Hazzard (I think he was the one who said it).

As reported on radio just now, she was the mother of the 2 Iraqi removalists.

1st time I've heard the mention of the ethnicity. I thought that was a no-go zone in the precious current climate.

That detail and their photos were all over the media this morning.

I get the impression from the articles I read that they were interviewed.

It seemed to be by way of explaining why they were in regional NSW when they were awaiting Covid test results. They stated it was surveillance testing.

Either way how absolutely awful to lose their mother.

In todays news they were named and it included they were an Iraqi refugee family. Sad news for the family.

Too early for any definitive statement in the 'Court of Public Opinion' - but IMHO this looks like another misdirection piece by the "Three Stooges".

Here's a free article with the removalists' side of the story. The detailed times mentioned suggest that perhaps some law firm or free legal service has come to their aid.

Smells a bit like the limo driver narrative that is still falsely being used by the State Govt. After all, the Police investigation using multiple CCTV footage showed he was wearing a mask prior to arriving, during collection, leaving the airport & arriving at the destination with the FedEx air crew. The limo driver went above & beyond what the NSW Govt required.

That the FedEx air crew tested negative & could not have infected the limo driver has not been publicised by either the NSW Health Dept nor the wider State Govt. Contact tracing has not 'officially' found the source.

Yet for over a week this focus on the 'irresponsible' limo driver under active Police investigation kept the focus off the State Govt's failings.

This had better not be another smoke & mirrors narrative diversion.

The storyline spread by the NSW Govt was that the removalists had already been informed they were CV positive some time BEFORE they left for the job.

Meanwhile, very quietly in the background somebody had travelled to Coffs Harbour last Thursday who is CV+, as well as travellers to Mittagong etc.

The graph tells the story….
Vaccination..?… too little too late

If you think vaccination is the answer, have a look at the UK now. Held up as the shining light wrt vaccinations - and also 55,000 new cases yesterday.

Cases are not relevent to me, in Australia or the UK. People who get very sick (hospitalised) from covid only are.

Not familiar with the background. Can you let us know who you are insulting there?
"Insulting" no, using shorthand from a journalist.

The three who kept mentioning the limo driver in the NSW media briefings (hint: not Kerry Chant).

One of the independent media groups gave them that label a few weeks back due to their ability to talk for several minutes yet not answer the question.

They were asked, three (4?) Fridays back, 5 times to confirm what the limo driver had told the media - that he had been re-contacted after a gap of some days since the last of the initial series of contact tracing interviews.

He was extensively re-interviewed, as was his wife, by the NSW Dept of Health who advised him that the FedEx aircrew had not tested CV+ve so the source of his infection is/was unknown (similar to the source of the May outbreak in the Eastern Suburbs).

Speaking of unknown, does anybody know what happened with the mystery cases last November?
With no cases under investigation for some weeks, 38 cases in NSW were changed on Nov 20th from 'known sources' to unlinked/mystery cases according to the seemingly reliable Covidlive web site.

Well, not being a watcher of NSW (or VIC, Tas, WA, SA, NT, QLD) media briefings, I'll remain in the dark I guess.

BTW, I dare say that the ability to talk for many minutes and not answer the question is a common attribute to most in the public eye there days. Did Larry, Curley and Mo, not answer questions? I can't remember.

There has been a (relative minor by global standards, huge by local standards) surge in cases in Singapore in the last week. But the Ministry of Health publishes various graphs daily, this is probably the most relevant to status of the infected with respect to vaccinations:
