Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

That’s an issue for the other states. Quite simply, covid zero is finished and it’s not happening again.
No one is saying Covid zero, there is still too many idiots roaming about. They need to get those community cases out and about down. Can’t be having 100’s of cases roaming freely about

And again, we’re counting on courts (who are not overly separate to government).

Perhaps i’m a little more cynical, but given the massive overreach of power for what is, all in all, a small risk, I can’t see is returning to any form of normal ever again.

Courts are one of the three branches of government but they make decisions completely independently, without Executive influence (again, 100+ years of Australian case law to support that).

The exercise of power is not just about risk. If the population - through their government - decide that 50 deaths is too high, then that's what we go for, regardless of the actual risk those numbers might represent.

ADF incoming to assist with compliance in Greater Sydney. Don't know in what capacity (I think their remit is fairly limited?).
Would the ADF members have been offered COVID vax for this role? I hope so. Or, are they not considered to be at risk?

We had covid zero! But then it came in through overseas interactions (either returning passengers or flight crews)
And this is why Covid zero was a mythical dream.

Strangely most of Australia’s medications come from overseas. We don’t manufacture much. So unless you don’t want to get your next script for antibiotics, blood pressure, blood thinners etc, and refuse to allow Australians to return home, don’t want overseas essential workers to come here, well, that’s the reality.

No, we had a few very very brief periods where we were largely without it, as a result of the most draconian and unsustainable international border controls in the world.

Regardless, the lockdown lovers are all telling us how much worse this “delta” variant is. So on one hand, “we had covid zero and should aim for it again”, and on the other, “oh but delta is so much worse and you can get it just by being in farting distance of someone”.

Have a look at all the “success” stories. Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam….. Australia.

How about staying at home like you have been asked

Because it’s unreasonable? Extreme grief? Loss of a loved one?

It’s not right just because the government says it’s right. History is littered with examples.

I’ve missed 3 weddings and 2 funerals of relatives in the UK and Italy aswell as 2 funerals of relatives in NSW. I have elderly parents in NSW that I won’t be able to see until probably 2022 and my father is booked in for major surgery in the next fortnight. So yes I understand people’s pain but I’m going to adhere to the rules that the government has set

NSW Department of Health officials meeting with VIC Department of Health to get key insights into communication in multicultural areas and rapid response units. All the way up to the ministerial level. So good to see some co-operation and learning.

Good for you. Problem is, not everyone will (and it’s hard to blame them). You’ll never get 100% compliance. That’s why we have a police force and judicial system in normal times. Our current covid model can be undone by the single action of a single person, so I’m sure you can see the issue.
