Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I just hope she does not come back with "I said an 18 year old this person was in their 20's".

No, thankfully she has has started back flipping, now (weakly, probably because it’s embarrassing for her after months of scaremongering…) encouraging QLDers to get AZ via their GP and has got the QLD chasing up 150,000 extra doses of AZ as well to try and stop the spread. Being discussed in other vaccine thread where it is more on topic.

The comments were in relation to non essential items, not food.

She obviously doesnt understand that couriers deliver prepared meals (not all food deliveries come from supermarkets or uber eats).

Also people need more than food to be able to stay home and wfh - if you technology breaks, you need light bulbs or office supplies you should not be made to feel that is inapropriate to order. Deliveries are largely no contact, so much safer than a supermarket shop if you look at the case numbers.

Yes agree.

Not that I am Dr Young advocate, but she was just requesting people to not order things to be delivered now unless they really need it now (ie Food and critical items). So that plus requesting that people not leave home just now, were both quite a sensible recommendations for a change.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young has urged Queenslanders to reconsider online shopping to minimise deliveries as she pushes for everyone to stay at home.
“Please, when you open your front door, just think for a moment – do you really need to go out,” Dr Young said.
“And also – and I’m a great online shopper – could you think about whether you need to do online shopping this week.
“Do you need those people out in the community delivering packages and things? Maybe just leave them for a week.
“And click and collect – do you really need that furniture that I know you can go and click and collect which is safer, absolutely, than going into the store, but it still means you’re putting someone else at risk.
“So please, everyone, just think what you could do to just stay at home for the next few days until Sunday because it would be really good if we could lift it [the lockdown].
“That’s a big challenge, though, when I look at other states and how long it’s taken before they could lift their restrictions.

Maybe just leave them for a week

Given Qld CHO has admitted to having no idea how this outbreak started, their lockdown will be longer than a week for sure.

The ability to order online has been a key tool in not only keeping people safe but keeping the economy from collapsing entirely. The constant border closures have already killed tourism and now they want to kill retail as well.

So this case is a male, a player for Newport Football Club, and will be part of the 3 unlinked cases mentioned in the figures to midnight last night. So they and the teacher both presented for testing on the same day.

There is a 50/50 chance this is the husband of the teacher. Probably likely given the age of the teacher and the likely age of the player.

There is clearly going to be a large number of people quarantining/isolating as of yesterday/today.
The football player worked 3 days at a Caroline Springs Optometrist

Victorian media already pushing the 3 day lockdown agenda. Extra cases after midnight cutoff and media suggesting possible 3 day lockdown starting this arvo

NSW: 5 more deaths, only 1 had a Astra Zeneca dose in May - other unvaccinated.

From today's daily report, now 18 confirmed mystery (unlinked) cases in this outbreak.

Outlandish thought I know, but maybe we can float the original idea of “flatten the curve” instead of this crazy Covid-Zero shambles?

Honestly, as awful as it is people are dying in Sydney as a result of the virus (which is going to happen ongoing now probably forever) this unfortunately was the series of outbreaks Australia needed to get our A’s into G, shake off vaccine snobbery and hesitancy and get people moving. I’ve seen even the ‘wait and see’ type around starting to waver and do something about it, book appointments to see their GP.

Sydney will never get back to zero now anyway, which means there will be ongoing outbreaks seeded into VIC and QLD, probably SA in an ongoing basis.

I don’t know I feel somewhat relieved that this pressure gasket has blown? Does anyone else feel the same?
