Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

NSW: 291 cases. Expected to go higher in 'next few days'.
It’s been going higher for months.
Whilst not surging, it’s on a steady climb. I don’t know at what number do they say enough is enough? 500s?

So sadly another death,

Of yet another person who has been eligible for a vaccine for months who had not even had a first dose.

(NSW) Premier foreshadows higher case numbers over coming days

"I do want to foreshadow that given this high number of cases, we are likely to see this trend continue for the next few days so everybody prepare themselves for higher case numbers in the next few days."

And bare in mind that with the presser being at 11am and that figures are to 8PM the evening prior that Gladys already has 15 hours worth of tomorrow's official figures for the 24hours.

People in Aus had no urgency to get vaccinated months ago as we had covid zero & were told how well Aus has done blah blah.

I think the exact phrases were 'this is not a race' and 'there is no burning bridge'.

What has happened to Brendan Murphy lately?

My comment was about Greater Sydney lockdown and restrictions, so what happens outside NSW is irrelevant to that. Over 50s have had ample time (over 3 months) to access vaccine in NSW, its a fact.
While that may have been your intention, this tread is about "Australian reports of the virus spread" and your post made no clarification regarding your statements only applying to NSW. Hence your comments being interpreted by many members as telling anyone over 50 that its their own fault if they have not been vaccinated, which is not true for many Australians.

Anyway, its time to get back on the topic of Australian report sof the virus spread, and not about who has or has not had opportunity to be vaccinated.

re the "not a race" call.....Well I don't see it as a race anyway, I mean we just have to get to ~80%, like many other countries are targeting. simple.
If it was a race & you came in 20th or 80th even 4th, it's still a fail isn't it, every race has only 1 winner. That was never going to be OZ, with so many metrics, who even know's who the winner is / will be.

Have you see some of the silver & bronze medalists at Japan? not all smiling. runner's up at euro cup, the poms removing their runners up medal immediately once off the dias.

It's no race to me, just aslong as we hit our given target in a reasonably short space of time.
By years end I'd over the proverbial moon. be that 50th or 80th place.
Once many here can stamp their passport in 2022 I don't think they'll give a hoot where we finished in this 'non' race.

Vic Presser.

Cleaner was only in admin areas (ie no medical areas). Cleaner is a household contact from the warehouse worker.

One third of Al-Taqwa contacts have so far been tested.

ABC News- More information on 6 new cases in Victoria

Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley is speaking in Melbourne.
He says three of the six cases are linked to the Hobson's Bay outbreak, and three all live together in a household different from the original two cases reported yesterday.
Other three are from the Maribyrnong outbreak. One is a housemate of the index case (the warehouse worker in Derrimut). The housemate is a cleaner who has done a shift at the Epworth Hospital in Richmond, in the administration area, not in the wards and it was out of hours.
The other two live in a different household, with one a person who attends the Warringa Park Special School in Hopper's Crossing.
Also in the press conference, six people in Victoria are in hospital, two in ICU, both of whom are on ventilation.
Mr Foley reiterates the message to come out and get vaccinated when you are eligible.
"The supply issues constrain us, but continue to come forward and get vaccinated," he said.

Seemingly NSW Premier moving towards 70% and 80% and meaning fully vaccinated before opening up.

Pretty sure NSW CHO is also looking at 70% and 80% fully vaccinated.

But when the time comes we will see if NSW Crisis Cabinet rolls her.

In context the 'not a race' was to excuse the lack of vaccine supply by the government :(

What if everyone at the gatherings was fully vaccinated....would that be OK?

How would this be enforceable? If the neighbours spotted people entering the house who didn't live there, how would they determine their vaccination status before dobbing them in? I know I don't have a green tick floating above my head.

Its clearly a rhetorical question, because we generally know how certain people would answer that question.

To me the bigger point is that when we achieve 65% of the adult population the reach is only about 50% of the whole population. (Not sure of the exact 16+ figures). And that point is completely missed in the "I want my fully vaccinated freedom now".

Vic Presser:

Traffic Controller Case- New information may link him with people that returned positive tests at the testing site. TBC

The good news on that is that it would mean that would be no unknown transmission chain prior.

Yes it would if the restrictions were changed and households could register their status. But as the restrictions currently say no gatherings at all no one should be doing so at all.

Although I think I shoudl be able to see my fully vaccinated parents I have abided the rules, unlike many in Cantebury-Bankstown LGA.

How would this be enforceable?

Currently you dob your neighbours into crime stoppers, Ive reported one of mine twice since June and miraculously they are now compliant after the police came knocking on their door re them having neighbours kids over to play and hosting a bbq on common property with people not living in their apartment. Simple.

Your sarcasm re vaccination status makes you look petty. The LGA with the most increasing cases has some of the lowest vacicnation rates in the state it is quite obvious that most there aren't vaccinated.

And if the police arrive and check and everyone is legit no harm no foul.

Its clearly a rhetorical question

No they are **** stirring because in their eyes NSW can never do anything right and Victoria's way is the only way *yawn*.

And that point is completely missed in the "I want my fully vaccinated freedom now".

No it isnt, its about risk management. Fully vaccinated people interacting with other fully vaccinated people pose no significant risk to each other or wider community. Those who havent been vaccinated are the ones who need to be restricted as they are the main spreaders and the ones most at risk of getting ill and dying. You only need to look at the US where the current surge is a problem of the unvaccinated and mainly occuring in the states with the low vaccination rates.

More people need to start taking some personal repsonsiblity and not keep asking others to continue to unecessarily sacrifice for their lack of action. Covid-19 is not the only health issue, isolation is causing significant long term damage.
