Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Keep in mind the guy has been admitted to hospital with covid, and NSW doesn’t do that unless it’s serious.

A bit too soon to be throwing spears at him IMO.
If he hasn't been cooperating with authorities and came to Byron after knowingly having contact with a Covid positive person (his wife) when the place is in lockdown, then call a spade a spade. ABC News didn't mention he had been hospitalised but that doesn't mitigate his deliberate actions. Ok. Shouldn't have used the word 'mention' as the source was the ABC News website.

They did, i watched Dr Chant state this at the presser this morning on ABC news channel, and it was repeated by news host in the update following, and mentioned again in the afternoon briefing.

But i agree throw the book at this guy if he hasnt been checking in and has knowingly broken rules. Assuming he recovers then lock him up (and name and shame).

I was very pleased when i went to the supermarket yesterday to find they have reinstated putting a security guard on the only entrance, to enforce mask wearing and QR check in and prevent groups entering.

That’s changed now outside Sydney.
There are a few people (adults and kids) admitted for precautionary reasons in our current regional outbreak.
Not throwing spears but if someone hasn’t used QR check-in and not able to fully cooperate he is probably safer in hospital in the meantime.
Except for those front line health care workers who put themselves in harm’s way to provide care and all the possible exposures in his trail…

Of course I agree no spears should be thrown (literally) but - as all my family also work in healthcare - people knowingly and deliberately behaving in a way that risks others health and safety is beyond disappointing
The reasoning behind not having 'punishment' for covid 'disobedience' is that it can discourage others from providing important tracing details. On the other hand, he had symptoms for days after contact with a positive person, travelled to another community (we don't know yet if that was allowed) and isn't cooperating. No spears, just accountability for dangerous choices.

Well, this morning the ABC were reporting this man had come from the Gold Coast, not Sydney.

And this afternoon news.com.au had a headline “rulebreaker sends city into lockdown” (about Tamworth) despite the person travelling there before the Newcastle lockdown had started and before they knew they had covid.

Point being, the media will throw spears but that doesn’t make it true.

This may be the source of the Gold Coast story. Maybe it was first hand info from the patient but later discovered to be incorrect.

The fact that we are even able to attack individuals who are locking down cities in the midst of a global pandemic does somewhat prove just how out of touch Australia is with reality.

Regardless of what this person did…. They didn’t rape a backpacker, they had the nerve to potentially commit the horrific crime of moving between two places 🙄

But deliberately moving between locations whilst knowingly infectious does mean he can cause the death of a person.

Reversing out of the driveway means you could run over the postman.

As I’ve said many times, the fact that a single person can lead to the lockdown of entire states is a clear indication of a failed model. That’s simply not how society works.

But even in the UK that is exactly what is happening once you've been identified as being a close contact with a Covid positive person. Once you are identified as such then you are in 14 day lockdown. He hasn't locked down a state but a region. Where he moved about, not being tested even with symptoms.

Sadly this is exactly how all societies are working right now. We are all making sacrifices. That isn't how society is supposed to be but it is. Covid sucks.

True. But I doubt BBC are filming these individuals i their kitchens and labeling them mass murderers.

Came across this tonight. All sounds eerily familiar, doesn't it.

BEIJING (AP) — The delta variant is challenging China’s costly strategy of isolating cities, prompting warnings that Chinese leaders who were confident they could keep the coronavirus out of the country need a less disruptive approach.

...

That “zero tolerance” strategy of quarantining every case and trying to block new infections from abroad helped to contain last year’s outbreak and has kept China largely virus-free. But its impact on work and life for millions of people is prompting warnings that China needs to learn to control the virus without repeatedly shutting down the economy and society.

...

“I don’t think ‘zero tolerance’ can be sustained,” said Chen. “Even if you can lock down all the regions in China, people might still die, and more might die due to hunger or loss of jobs.”

But Beijing has shown no sign of abandoning its tactics.

Disease controls must “be even faster, more firm, stricter, more expansive and ready,” He Qinghua, an official of the National Health Commission’s Disease Control Bureau, said at a news conference Saturday.

More exposure sites have been added in Melbourne: Not huge, but probably indicative of more cases being announced tomorrow where they will have had some infectious period in the community 9most recent exposure periods are on the 7th Aug).

The bulk of the newer sites are in the area NW to SW of the Melbourne CBD and so most f not all are probably linked to the Hobsons Bay Cluster.

Mass murderers? Which media has done that here? Likely Dan Andrews is the only person that nasty comment has been thrown at. As far as filming in kitchens, if you are referring to the pregnant lady as that's the only thing I can think of, then the family filmed it and provided it to the media I believe, or must have invited them in, in order for that to happen.

Maybe media spin but it seems he only sought medical treatment and hence tested when he got very sick and needed help. And his teen children have reported by the media to be positive.
