Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

John Barilaro:

Stay home orders will apply to anyone who was in Canberra on or after 5 August. Stop the spread and don’t leave Canberra. I’ll be asking Commissioner Fuller to ramp up police resources on the South Coast looking for blue and white number plates. Large penalties will apply.

Lots of pot/kettle/black comments... if the spread had been stopped in the other direction ACT wouldn't be under lockdown.

Lol I thought this was a Shovel joke for a second. Seriously. Oh now a ring of steel - just around Canberra 😆

The PM told Centrelink not to chase all those companies that got paid unnecessary JobKeeper payments so they are focusing on the small fry.
A better way to spend taxpayer money than financial incentives to be vaccinated?

oh no! 18 months! what a shame. The elderly and vulnerable lost 5 years fighting the second world war to give us the freedoms we have today. Let's put that in to some perspective. Do we really want the young to be out clubbing by making the elderly miss out on the RSL and Anzac day?

Paying back for the rest of their lives? I guess the same was said about the two world wars, Korean and Vietnam wars, the middle east wars, the GFC and countless other very costly exercises. yet we seem to have come through those. I'm not sure my parents are still paying for the cost of world war two.

I find this post in quite poor taste.

I have spoken to a friend that today had to watch the funeral of their baba over zoom. For someone who was quite close to their baba, this has caused them a lot of distress.

Society has changed, no one is discounting the sacrifice that previous generations have made. But lets be honest, we are comparing apples and oranges here, lets have some empathy here (something that has really gone amiss as of recent).

And what other state doesn't have the result back before their next every 3rd day test is due?

Well none cause no other state bothers to do that type of proactive testing.

A friend who gets tested every 3 days has always received results within 30 hours, so the process works.

Oh for gods sake 🙄

But I will bite. 5 years fighting for freedoms…. Like my freedom to drive through Annandale without the fuzz asking for papers? That freedom?
Free to leave Australia for a country that better meets your requirements as all the surveys show you are in by far the minority - as the three State elections results have demonstrated.

102 year old Sydney woman who was sent a letter saying she had to attend centrelink in person with proof of Identity

Why would anyone of that age be eligible for emmergency covid payments / job keeper ?

A 102 year old would be retired, they wouldnt have lost paid work and would either already be on an age pension or a self funded retiree. Sounds like some sort of admin screw up.

I didn't see anyone say it was in relation to those types of payments.

No other state is in a position of needing to do it...yet.

Most 102 year olds I know are on some form of wefare. The report said welfare payments. Why on earth would you bring up emergency covid/jobkeeper payments.

Actually no resident Aussie can leave the country without an exemption which can be denied at the whim of a bureaucrat. That is just one of the many prior freedoms which is currently being denied under the guise of "keeping everyone safe".

I am intrigued. How many 102 year olds do you know? I don't know any.

Because as I said at her age the other welfare payments would have already been in place well before Covid became a thing, hence no reason to got to a centre link office. Aged pension does not require you to seek work or present regularly at Centrelink, which is why it has to be an admin stuff up or a case of applying for something she isnt eligible for like a covid emmergency payment.

Ah yes, "One swallow does not a summer make." So, in your friend's case - they can be working for over 24 hours while being contagious - sure is a (Fool's) Gold Standard.

In one example from the Hunter - the worker tested 4 days earlier, went to work as an essential worker and infected over a dozen.

In my post I did mention that in our area the turnaround was around six hours - which the State Govt admits is not the rule.

Tests from The Hunter are being driven to Sydney, then flown to as far as WA for processing - after that state's own tests for the day have been processed. I think that makes NSW 'last in the queue' doesn't it? Brad Hazzard has gone on record saying there's no problem with this.

Independent MP gets answers on Covid test result delays
At 2.30pm

A number of Covid tests from the Hunter will now be sent to laboratories in Queensland, Western Australia and Victoria to ensure a quicker turnaround of results.

Delays of up to five days have been experienced by a number of people who have waiting hours in line to get their tests in the past week.

Well then they shouldnt try to claim that their restrictions are tougher, cause they arent.

I had to get passes for many of my Melbourne based staff to work through last years lockdown and it was really simple, fill in form, attach a letter from director, auto approval. A lot of the supposed "tough"restrictions in other states are just an illusion.

If you think pathology in any of our states are capable of handling in excess of 150,000 tests per day without using interstate capacity then you are very sorely mistaken. It may not be ideal but it is reality.

WA was handling Victorian tests during peak periods of 2020.

Sorry to hear this does not cover this issue adequately. Maybe this will help resolve it for you with the least effort. 🤞
I received a similar request from Centrelink yesterday - some 5 months after approval of DSP for terminal illness. It so makes sense to ask someone with a terminal illness with no immune system to go and stand in the cold with random other people outside a Centrelink office.
If you're up to it - contact the nearest ALP/Green/Independent Federal Member +/or shadow Federal Health Minister's (Chris Bowen) office. When this was done for the 102 yr old the issue was 'fixed' within one media cycle.

PM if you need help.
