I have not watched most of the NSW pressers, but the other question also then is where did the prisoner catch it? What was the transmission chain leading to him being infected? Has then been any commentary on that? From a quick google, there does not seem to be anything on that aspect as yet.
It is implied that he arrived at BSC already infected, but no complete details are given on his movements prior to BSC (it said he was not at loaction) a hotspot and where he was prior when he became infected.
The 27-year-old man was tested upon his entry to the Bathurst Correctional Centre at 4:00pm on Saturday August 7, as a standard precaution for all new admissions.
The positive result did not return until Wednesday August 11, by which time he had been released on bail and travelled home to Walgett, more than 470 kilometres away.
A second inmate at the Bathurst jail has tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.
The 29-year-old man, a new prisoner, is believed to have been infected in Dubbo, and was swabbed on his arrival to the Bathurst prison on Wednesday.
Corrective Services said he had been in a single cell while awaiting results, and contact tracing was underway to determine who had been exposed to him.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network said the earlier case of the 27-year-old man was asymptomatic, was not a known close or casual contact of a COVID-19 case, and had not visited a hotspot location, so his routine swab was dispatched as non-urgent the following day.
He was contacted as soon as possible after the result was known and told to isolate, and his close contacts were also notified.
The spokesperson said if he had been known as a contact, or an exposure, his sample would have been fast tracked and he would have been told to isolate until a negative test had been received.
It took four days for a prison swab of a COVID-positive man on bail to be returned this week, and by that time he left Bathurst to visit Dubbo and Walgett in the remote north-west of NSW.
