Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Yes, I knew all that - but has there been an explanation for how the person got it before being in the Bathurst Jail?

Not seen one.
It has not been stated whether he was in fact a prisoner (ie sentenced in court) or on remand.

But in general, any time a prisoner goes to court in person, they can expect to return to a different gaol. Similarly, if about to be released after completing a sentence will be sent to a gaol closer to home towards the end. So lots of permutations, but not sure we will get a full explanation.

WA just seem like crazy people, I know they live in the middle of no-where with no-one else to speak so but do they really think they can be the only part in the whole world that will manage to be covid zero till the end of time? whats in the water over there
Only one crazy person and that's Mark McGowan...born and bred in NSW

I thought I read somewhere that he was released on bail? Not sure if that's correct or not but if so, it could be a tricky area if he was granted bail but they refused to release him due to awaiting Covid results.

Shouldn’t have been a problem. He could have been released and placed in Special Health Accommodation pending result if unable to isolate safely until result available.

I had ABC on in the background and thought I heard them mention it but I didn’t catch the whole grab of it so perhaps I misheard. That’s why I’m asking if it was mentioned anywhere

Not that I have heard or seen on twitter.

The numbers I put up were what Jeroen Weimar went through at about 2PM.

I would suspect that would require someone to make a decision and think outside the box. I refer you to the Ruby Princess.
I might be mistaken, but I thought I heard that all people going into custody are surveillance tested....its not normal for surveillance testing to go to SHA awaiting results.

It will be now for those that are released pending results.
Or at least a robust risk assessment process is undertaken before anyone is able to return to their vulnerable communities.

Did I hear correctly that 9 cases have come from the party now?
I have seen that number on Twitter but only in one tweet from a source I don't know.

I am staying well away from the local shopping strip. I expect it to light up (even more) with exposure sites soon.

My skin check doctor's website has disappeared and the social media pile on is in full swing.

Good to see that those who need to enforce the rules agree a curfew is pointless. From the ABC Blog:

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller has told ABC News that a curfew in Sydney, similar to the one in Melbourne, should not be needed.

He said the police and ADF presence along with the current restrictions should be able to stop the spread of the virus.

"We look worldwide in terms of what is works and we don't believe a curfew is what will work," he said.

Looking at this from outside of Melbourne, my take on the curfew is as much about posturing as anything and is also it would seem to to discourage parties, which as we know tend to lend themselves to rapid spread. Of course it won't stop daytime/early evening parties/gatherings, but when you're coming home from a party at 11pm not so easy to find an excuse as to why you're out, vs having supermarkets, takeaways etc all open at that hour.

When I went to MEL airport last August, during the curfew, for an midnight departure I counted 1 car travelling in our direction along the Tulla Fwy, and only 2 in the opposite direction. One can argue whether it is a sign of descent into a police state that is un-Australian, but there is no doubt it curtails movement, even if not rigidly policed.

From this evening's Vic DHHS Update, some more salient information:

  • The City of Dandenong mystery case from yesterday (which had a household contact in today's count) has now been linked to current cases.

  • The two remaining mystery cases (the others from this morning are all now linked) from today:
    • Both reside in a residential tower in Lygon St, Carlton.
    • The cases were identified through targeted wastewater surveillance.
    • The cases have moved to Hotel Quarantine.
    • Their highest risk primary close contacts have tested negative.
    • Their floor will be managed as Tier 1 primary close contacts, with the remainder of the building managed as a Tier 2 exposure site.

Apparently they were all named and the Skin care clinic has copped a mountain of abuse.

And looking back on the report from two days ago:

Update: COVID-19 wastewater detections in Victoria

We are continuing to see unexpected detections of COVID-19 fragments in wastewater in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Carlton, Glenroy-Broadmeadows, the Sunshine West industrial area, Camberwell and the Truganina-Williams Landing areas are all showing positive detections. The detections are in specific parts of those suburbs that have not recorded recent positive cases of COVID-19.
The unexpected wastewater detection in Carlton was identified within a public housing estate. Residents of this estate have been directly contacted and are being supported to get tested on site by CoHealth.
So excellent surveillance and detective work to have after having found that part of Carlton as possibly having a case to then test the apartment building (most likely tested a number apartment buildings) to lead to the two cases in today's count being found.

Not long back 2 cases were found by wastewater surveillance monitoring of an apartment building where there had been one known case.

Some more exposure sites near you. The notes column say St Kilda. So that may or may not mean thy are linked to the party.
