Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

The frustrating thing about Shep is that they have been pushing for people in Shep to get tested for over a week, and yet it took till at least yesterday for someone to do so despite that fact that there were at least 17 people positive by then and quite likely more. They will not all have been asymptomatic.

  • Shepparton – three repeat detections in the period of interest 9-16 August. A recent positive case identified in the Shepparton area explains the most recent wastewater detection. However, the period of interest remains a concern. Anyone who works or have visited that area between 9 and 16 August is encouraged to come forward for testing, even if they are not showing symptoms.

Its just human nature people only react when they see urgency. People are tired of being constantly on defcon 10.

Case in point: W and SW Sydney for literally the last 6 months, every second week sewage detections and begging from Gov to get tested…. No one ever really did much.

Plus 16 from rapid testing. 77 all up.

In addition to 61 local cases reported, there are an additional 16 local cases which were recorded on a rapid PCR testing platform and will be reported in tomorrow’s numbers. [2/3]

Of the local cases, 22 were in isolation for the duration of their infectious period and 48 are linked to known outbreaks. [3/3]

Yep, no doubt heaps of it. Even in NSW, do we think it’s only a few hundred a day? Nobody likes to acknowledge it though as it dilutes the data even further.

Goodness no, everyone knows NSW is probably already in the 1000’s. Not that it really matters anymore. Doesn’t change the strategy.

I clicked on the news article and was not able to watch more than a few seconds before changing my mind and closed the page. I really don't know much about her but I can see now why Karl was paid more than her as a peace offering to have to put up with her on a daily basis.

Unfortunately that show has a lot more reach than her old morning show and it’s reached a lot of people….

If I were a military tactician, the release of this virus on to the world would be brilliant. Bankrupting countries, businesses, and people. Putting hard barriers between people who were once part of the same country. Just pick your time for the military bit to start, as any opposition is already divided and weakened. Nice knowing you WA.

As for Lisa… I met her once on a flight. She was with Karl and a number of other well known TV people. Olympics or a wedding or something of that ilk. I don’t think she liked me when I asked what she did.

100% agree with you N860CR as someone also in Sydney. Allow retail to open, if staffed by people within 10km of their home initially. They've stopped publishing retail exposure sites like Woolworths, so kind of says this would not lead to a major super spreader event.
Let's allow people to socialise in small groups in public parks and beaches, much better then sneaking inside houses. Let's also allow no restrictions on recreation and finally outdoor dining for the fully vaxxed. Right now that would be the biggest incentive to get people back out there for their second shot.

I think all of these things should be alllowed soon, but only for workers and customers / members of the public who are fully vaccinated (and medically able). The rest can shelter at home per current restrictions to help flatten the curve.

The leaked NSW Gov plan indicates they are at least considering this (privileges to fully vaccinated people) when they hit 70%… I just wonder when they will release it. I think it would be a great carrot to get the laggards finished off too.

Bit of a catch-22 then? If your psychologist is away from work for a month fighting covid, what happens to their clients? if the medical imaging specialist is out for a month sick, who does the work? Same with teachers. It's not 'manage covid' or 'manage the other health issues'. We'd have covid and the other health and social issues as well.
We need to find a balance between every health issue we are experiencing in normal life. Once 80% vaccination is reached then the balance must be corrected. It's very one sided right now. And that impact will be felt or years to come, long after covid. Telehealth works somewhat but there simply isn't enough psychologists around. We usually being in Doctors etc from overseas but right now they can't get into the country because of border controls so we have a significant medical skills shortage here. That will last for years. The butterly effect of what we are doing now has a long time to play out.

Any restrictions currently applied must be seen to address a direct health issue and be consistently applied. They aren't.

Just heard on the radio NSW police have got a prohibition order approved on all public transport taxis / Ubers to stop them operating into and around the Sydney CBD today to stop the planned protest and help prevent a super spreader event…. Must have thought it was going to be big!

Pretty extreme measure taken by NSW police today to stop the protest - all public transport, taxis and ubers banned from the CBD.

I can't work out how this could apply to rail short of shutting the whole network down, so it's probably just road traffic.

Well today is the first day in a long while I'm actually dreading what the government announces and the extreme measures and power being wielded over me. Much love to everyone in Sydney and Melbourne. Hope it's not as bad as the rumours would suggest down here in the more southern capital.

Stay strong. You can do this. This year we have the vaccine.

They have to allow interchanges somewhere. central is the most obvious point.

NSW a police state in all but name now.

Yeah, that's what I meant, but if they don't stop people leaving central, they'll just use that and walk.

I believe @drron has met her on a cruise to Antarctica. They got on very well ;)
Yes 19 days on a small ship with Lisa, red bandanna and their kids.I learnt enough to not believe a word they say.Arrogant w....rs

But an atricle in the Australian yesterday but behind a pay wall.In the last month the rate of hospitalisation of covid cases and ICU in those admitted has fallen sharpy. For ICU the rate in 1 month has gone from 29% to 17%.
And a couple of graphs of Australia ICU data.

So despite people such as Lisa GB has done well in this outbreak.Absolutely no point comparing this outbreak to the Victorian outbreak. It wasn't delta, not even gamma.Had it been Delta WA would have never opened to Victoria.

But why we need to get to 80% vaccination levels here is the situation in Oregon yesterda. One of the higher vaccinated states but first jabs ~ 60% and fully vaccinated ~ 55%.But this is what happened yesterday.
ORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) — There are 19 new COVID-19 related deaths in Oregon, raising the state’s death toll to 2,994, the Oregon Health Authority reported Thursday.
OHA also reported 2,971 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01 a.m. today, bringing the state total to 250,835 – as of Thursday, more than a quarter-million Oregonians have contracted COVID-19.

And Oregon has a population of 4.1 million just half of NSW.So imagine the NSW figures being 5942 new cases a day,1690 hospitalisations a day and 38 deaths a day.So I say well done GB,NSW Health and all who work in health in NSW.

Police checkpoint on the M1 northbound near Newcastle

Looks a bit like some kind of circular metal

It's rather interesting to watch V for Vendetta right now...

Does the Sydney train network tunnel under NSW Parliament? Asking for a friend...named Guy.

<the above is satire and should not be construed as anything other>

<<can't believe I have to write that>>

<<<which sort of closes the loop on my original comment>>>
