Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I hope you're right, but at the press conference it did sound as though mixing of households would still be discouraged.
I think the 13/9 rule is:

- fully vaccinated members of same household (plus kids) can exercise together if in LGA of concern.
- fully vaccinated members of different household (up to 5 adults? plus kids aged 17 and under) can recreation (eg picnic) together if both are out of LGA of concern.

Close -
- fully vaccinated members of same household (plus kids) can have one hour of recreation together if in LGA of concern. This is on top of the one hour of exercise.
- fully vaccinated members of different household (up to 5 members including kids aged 17 and under) can have an outdoor gathering if all are out of LGA of concern and within the normal 5Km/single LGA limit.

So you could have a larger gathering in a park as long as you sat in multiple groups of 5 adults with reasonable distance between them outside the hotspot LGA’s.

People across NSW who have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed more freedoms next month after NSW hit the target of six million jabs.

This is the first step in the roadmap and further freedoms will follow for those who have had the jab when the state hits new vaccination targets of 70 and 80 per cent.

Following consultation with Dr Kerry Chant and her team, as well as the NSW Chief Psychiatrist Dr Murray Wright, the following individual freedoms will be allowed for adults who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

From 12.01am, Monday, 13 September:
  • For those who live outside the LGAs of concern, outdoor gatherings of up to five people (including children) will be allowed in a person’s LGA or within 5km of home.
  • For those who live in the LGAs of concern, and who have responded to the call out to get vaccinated, households with all adults vaccinated will be able to gather outdoors (including picnics) within the existing rules (for one hour only, outside curfew hours and within 5km of home).

If I lived in Sydney or Melbourne I'd be scared to leave the house in fear of being arrested, even if I thought I was doing the right things. Wasn't someone fined for taking the bins out to the street an hour after curfew, as he stepped off his front lawn onto the pavement near the street?
Its an interesting issue about the police. I went for my walk this morning (in Sydney South) and came upon a HWY Patrol car doing radar checks in the local 50 zone. I walked past, maskless, and gave him a wave. About 5mins later he came past me further up the road, going quite slowly.

About 800m further along he was parked on the opposite side of the road doing radar checks. I turned off soon after and wander various streets, before beginning the leg homeword. This involved going through a shopping centre, and as I came to a pedestrian crossing who should pull up to allow me to cross - yes the same HWY patrol car.

So three encounters in the one exercise period, and neither he nor I was bothered about it. I feel quite comfortable going out that my local Police while working hard to help prevent the virus spread, act rationally and reasonably.

A couple of reports where it seems the fines were for 'attitude' rather than being outside curfew.

The synic in me says that the entire state of NSW will be an LGA of concern by the time the new 'freedoms' come into effect.

The media has failed to notice, but the effective date of the new rules is around the same date NSW is tipped to get 80% single jabbed.

Not a coincidence.

I think it's going to have a significant impact to vaccination rates (Gladys all but confirming you won't be able to do anything if you don't get vaxxed) which will save far more lives in the long run. If people stick to these rules, it shouldn't really increase the transmission.

Then there would be no need then for that level of restrictions stopping movement I guess as everyone would be in same boat 🤷
Good point and poses the question of what restrictions will look like once COVID is effectively (and inevitably?) everywhere, assuming this happens before we reach the jab targets.

The site was rejected for a multitude of reasons. As the PM just said, the Premier has had the ability to build and fund that facility with state funding since it was first mooted. But they went sniffing for Commonwealth money instead.

I suspect this is a sideshow to distract from the disaster of hotel quarantine that the state has overseen.
It was supposed to be a federal quarantine facility. The site was rejected for political reasons. They finally were dragged kicking and screaming to Pinkenba but still dragged their heels. It s a sad state of affairs when Feds can't bring themselves to accept any recommendations from the other sides notwithstanding the validity.

Quarantine facilities outside of hotels will be needed for years. And don't put too much faith in vaccination being the way out given the potential for future mutations of CoronaVirus and other potential pandemics.

Great idea for a thread @ayebee! Do you want to start it or will I?
would be nice, but at this stage it would be mainly pleasant memories. Since US / Japan Jan/Feb 2020, I have now missed 2 local seasons as well as envisaging it will be at least 2023 before a trip north can be considered. Let's leave it for a year or so :-(

Both NSW Premier and the CHO stated that there would still be measures in force such as mask wearing and social distancing depending on the risk assessment in various settings.

As they should be - hospitals and nursing homes will be using masks for a long time, indeed possibly indefinitely for visitors and staff of the facility.

I am sure Chant mentioned these new rules could be changed back if needed.

Last year in Melb at a park / playground in Highett, there were circles (2.5M approx diameter) at spacing f 1.5M apart from closest point, painted on the ground right near the playground.
For sole purpose of people not sitting too close to other groups.
It was a very strange feeling seeing them, about 20 circles. Never saw them anywhere else.

From a climate emergency declared council painting these painted circles on beautiful grass I might add!
