Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

To be fair it’s a journey and you need to adjust your language to where you are at on that journey in bringing the public on the journey. So you really need to be comparing Dan to what Gladys was saying a month ago, not what she is saying now.

On that measure yes, Dan is a bit behind but somewhat less than if you are comparing both as at today.
NSW Premier was not in a good state a month ago - can be hard to tell with groundhog day.

It’s not cold. It’s just a fact. When people drive 160 km/h on the pacific highway and fly into a tree, we quite rightly say that they contributed to their own death. Not getting vaccinated, when eligible, in the middle of a global pandemic is no different.

The difference is that we don’t have politicians expressing their sadness at the tragedy of the vehicle death in daily press conferences.
Your analogy prompted a couple of thoughts.

People who choose to drive at 160km/h do get their freedoms restricted

But also..

I've known a lot of (often interesting) people who do stupid things. If they do come into trouble, it cause sadness to those who know them (while usually recognising that it is their nature that led to their problems)

My family is fine if you limit it to a vertical slice.of the family. Some of the branches where aunties, uncles and cousins reside the story is different.
And not just in a pandemic 😀

I've read some US articles where vaccinated parents of kids have unvaccinated relatives who eventually get covid and pass it on to their own kids. So I'm guessing this might be the type of personal issue for some that I've spoken to. eg Family restaurant dinner won't be covid-safe when everyone is at the same table sitting next to each other. Its going to be problematic.

And don't forget those choosing to not get vaccinated will be quite righteous about it. Imagine the righteous indignity for not getting an invite to a family gathering - family whatsapp groups etc blowing up
My late 50s cousin from NSW Central Coast is very anti-vax. Her elderly mother (my aunt) has had both AZ shots and is in despair about it. My late 40s cousin, sister of the first, is also fully Pfizered and thinks her sister is an idiot.

First cousin is expecting to be a Grandmother for the first time in December after many complications for her daughter falling pregnant and maintaining the pregnancy. Her son-in-law has put his foot down and said no jab, no access to baby. My cousin said that her daughter was OK with her seeing the baby whenever she wants - we don't know the truth of that statement, or the state of the marriage either for that matter. We are all watching with popcorn at the ready and gaping jaws for the next instalment.

I expect there will be a lot of situations like this to play out.

Oh dear. More pain for her then. Our DIL insisted everyone have a booster whooping cough vaccine before we were allowed to visit.

Truly I think there is certainly some blame for the Gov.

However how the information about AZ was pushed around by media / socialmedia I think should not be understated. The ability to produce a very good vaccine that the vast majority of my friends in the UK took was an absolute GIFT to Australians and it was (arguably still is being) squandered.

It's very easy to point blame upwards but nearly every death in NSW in the last 2 months could have had 2 shots of Astrazenca quite some time ago. I dont mean that to sound cold.
I agree with you there. However, the federal government made mistakes regarding AZ. Restricting it to certain age groups for many months didn't help the negative attitudes. We didn't need to be in this situation right now, if as planned at the start of the year AZ was given to the bulk of the population. Furthermore, the federal government should've been far more diverse with their vaccine approach.

I think you mean ATAGI

I use to be a Liberal voter. However, I can't stand them anymore, especially Morrison. No vision, no clarity and only seems to take action when pushed into a corner.

Thing is opposition is a big nothingness, no statements as aside from continual 'he had two jobs - both failed'. At least Scomo is saying open up borders, he keeps that up and silence from opposition that's enough for me to vote him back.

ATAGI provided advice, governments used it to make what turned out to be stupid decisions, subsequently largely reversed.

Yes, but imagine the screeching if the government didn't act on ATAGI advice. That's an unfair criticism.

I'm sure you can remember the protest of the QLD premier and CHO for the PM merely suggesting people under 60 could get AZ if they saw their GP.

Clearly the advice was terrible advice, and was about taking a zero risk approach for ATAGI and not the lowest risk overall for the country as a whole.

Indeed and ATAGI doesnt exist in a bubble. The EU / certain European countries cast the first stone against AZ and there was no going back from there. I'm sure other might disagree but i personally think the regulatory decisions in those countries were hugely political and wanted to derail the UKs vaccination program which was far more advanced than their own.

Shepparton Day 13 tests will kick off in volume from tomorrow Thursday, with another large cohort on Friday.

Many of these will not start to hit the VicDHHS daily report till at least Friday, and quite possibly most from Saturday on.

GV Health expects 4000 people will require Day 13 testing tomorrow, largely from school sites. Info about locations and extended hours for testing sites will be posted on GV Health FB page. Two or three sites will be open until 8pm to meet demand.

After their testing rolls through the town will probably join the rest of regional Vic out of lockdown not long after them.

From the ABC: Andrews to hold a meeting with the PM tonight

"I’ve got a meeting with the Prime Minister tonight to talk about what does the whole passport thing look like. What does an economy for the vaccinated look like? Once we’ve avoided a catostrophic pandemic of the unvaccinated at scale?"

Is this some sort of joke? They are only now starting to have discussions on covid passports and what a vaccinated economy looks like
We do things the "Australian way", and not the efficient or effective way.

Put your brain into management mode. APH spends a lot on spin artists, and re-election promotion, and nudge theory. The ACT minister just blabbed there is silence about what happens at 80%. Perhaps the states disagree, won't come on board, or worse. Public division looses votes/poll ratings so you push it aside or underground. Today, treasury will work overtime, as Victoria has just surrendered to Delta, into a retreat that buys time. 3 Billion a week coming up, no drama? Noting strong almost-compulsory vaccination would have saved lives if pushed from the get-go, we move to a soft/limp compulsory vaccination, backed by vague threats of discrimination. The soft commercials - have cost lives - time to roll out the grim reaper. And a clock - the more you wait .... Business leaders are saying lets not wait for 80%, go for 100% have had ample time to be vaccinated. Say freedom day on 1st December, and lockdowns for those without vaccinations - no Christmas shopping for you. Personal accountability is not cold (excluding genuine medical exceptions).

Overseas flying: Problem 1) Travel Insurance. Problem 2) Having a cash buffer for unforeseen delays. 3) Having cash if you test positive on return. 4) Who pays the cost of testing? Some might say this makes flying elitist. Sigh.

In the news tonight we had the head of the Nurses Assn claiming 1 in 10 members didn't want the jab, and railing against the compulsory requirement.

That 10% of anti-vaxers have no business working in the nursing field, let them leave, they will do more harm than good.

I think most people will take 6 more weeks of lockdown if it means when we come out, we stay out, and everything is open including international travel. I'd much rather live on this side of the border compared to other states trying to keep me safe.
I would gladly trade Covid 0 double donuts Nannystacia for a sensible Gladys, reasonable spread with minimal deaths amongst unvaccinated, lockdown but a REAL light at the end of the tunnel.
FREEDOM!

The cough she's spouting "What about the children?" is ridiculous fear mongering and I hope everyone sees it for what it is. What is her end game? Does she want QLD to be isolated forever?

Which news?

They approach topics differently depending on the subject.
