QLD reporting a single local infection, a truck driver from the GC who may potentially have been infectious in the community for 5 days, however the driver is now in Sydney and must have tested positive there so it is assigned to NSW's numbers.

Yawn oh well, lucky our vaccination program is so progressed up here. Cough oh wait whoops ;)

I agree I think all levels of government are doing everything they can. I personally think the blame to the state up north/down south/left/right/above/below is moot - it was always going to be someone that had an uncontrollable outbreak that would spread across the country. It shouldn't be any shock that this occurred, it has happened in literally every country in the entire world. Including China!
Small point -but I think there are still some Pacific nations without covid cases yet (Nauru perhaps?) . But they are getting vaccinated through covax

Meanwhile, a Gold Coast school has also been closed after children boasted about travelling to and from Melbourne.

Ms Palaszczuk said the family has been placed into mandatory hotel quarantine for 14 days.

"This is very serious, we need this family to cooperate with authorities," she said.

Excuse me for a moment while I simultaneously vomit and stare in disbelief. This can't be what actually happened? Surely not?

There were only two instances of asymmetry with Pfizer :
- Poland jabs about 300,000 more for NSW (with all 530,000 wholly given the W/SW Sydney critical workers)
- brought forward doses to NSW, Vic and Qld (because September had 2 "monthly deliveries")

I am not sure that the doses sent to the state channel is the full story though.

For example in the Commonwealth Administered Aged Care and Disability Channel:

On 31 July all jurisdictions were sitting at pretty much pro-rata vaccinated levels.
  • July 31: 522,983 doses for all jurisdictions
  • Aug 31: 763,699 doses for all jurisdictions. So up 240,716 nationally for the month.

However NSW went from to 174,274 doses 343,060 doses. So up 168,786 for the month..

Now NSW had a greatly raised threat to this high risk cohort due to the surge in case numbers and so it is fair enough in my mind that it got extra attention. However that high risk remains in all the other jurisdictions and so presumably the Commonwealth will need to make efforts to address getting matters back to pro-rata levels (or rather in proportion to whatever the actual number of aged care and disabled people that there are in this segment in each jurisdiction) in this channel that it is managing.

Sorry I don't understand just figures - what % was NSW getting up to 31/7 and what % did NSW get for August and then how much cannot be explained by Poland and brought forward Pfizer doses.....???

That doesn't have an AZ/Pfizer breakdown, so for a start this is not a valid argument. A lot in this group would be getting AZ.

The other premiers made a lot of noise when it was suggested to give NSW more Pfizer. There was a commitment at National Cabinet months ago to distribute pro-rata; the only time that has not happened was for the Polish vaccines as apparently that was a condition of the sale (ie, it was Sydney that made the Polish government sell us the vaccines. )

I have a theory that NSW has been giving away 2nd jab allocations as first jabs, effectively running with no fat and hoping that there's no disruption to supply. It seems other states have been more cautious with Pfizer appointments going unfilled.

Well if a State is cautious (in the example holding stock as "allocated" second jabs) and appointments are unfilled, then supply might be surpassing demand. Where is this happening?

Interesting that the school shut on the Gold Coast has been named.

"They don't know where they have been but what they do know is that the children in that family attended school on August 31 at the Australian International Islamic College in Carrara on the Gold Coast.

If they have indeed been to Melbourne recently, this ought to be interesting given the major outbreak in Victoria is associated to another Islamic school in the western suburbs.

So he had the test done in NSW then? Just wondering if QLD is trying to fudge things. Might be a moot point of its seeded.

Refusal to be tested and failure to disclose travels is surely unlawful these days? Aren't they then required to do 28 days quarantine? Next we will be hearing about their stress in being locked up Yada Yada.

Back to the good old pre-covid day, where there is fudging everywhere.

I think truck drivers are considered super-essential workers and hence don't have the normal isolation/quarantine rules apply to them until they are a known/confirmed positive. If they are out of State when the positive test comes through, I guess they still have a "right" to find their way home unhindered so they can isolate. I think its still 7 day routine test for this group.
