Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Are Qantas confirmed yet as requiring passenger to be fully vaccinated from a future start date? That would be applicable to intra-State flights.

I don’t believe any airline domestically has said that - and clearly since VA2 are loudly opposing the vaccine passport for domestic travel I therefore expect they will definitely not be requiring all passengers to be vaccinated either (from inference)….

So NSW freedom day is Oct 18 for
Hospitality to open to fully vaxxed people only - and our new office opens a week after that so we are busily looking for venues to celebrate in! Exciting for our Sydney team and all (fully vaccinated) NSW folk!

Having read a news article, it sounds like a lot more.

Tomorrow might be must-see TV for Sydney/NSW residents to try to understand all the details.

Looks like NSW authorities are using ABC's and covidlive's 39-day projection lol. Wonder who else got the same date...

Yes it does… not sure how much will turn out to be true but If anyone wants a read… it sounds like lots will coming back!

If true looks like only fully vaxxed people will get privileges.

NSW reopening date revealed as crisis cabinet signs off on lockdown exit plan, health advice overruled

NSW’s crisis cabinet has signed off on a plan to end lockdown, with a tentative reopening date set despite the advice from health experts.

The NSW government has agreed on its road map out of lockdown as it works towards an October 18 ‘Freedom ay’ for retail and hospitality.

The freedoms will be restored for Sydney residents when the state hits its target of fully vaccinating 70 per cent of people over the age of 16, which is anticipated in mid-October.

People will have to prove they are fully vaccinated at the door of hospitality venues if they want to enter, with a “vaccine passport” that will be linked to the Service NSW app.

Regional travel will also resume for the fully vaccinated.

The Australian reports Premier Gladys Berejiklian and her senior ministers overruled health officials, including chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant, who advised them to take a more cautious approach.

I just hope the message is delivered clearly and precisely. Please no more waffling about possible freedoms but clear-cut statements. The people of NSW need to be treated like adults. My hitlist for reopening is medical services, swimming pools, gyms, community sport, cafes and restaurants.

Yesterday i went to my regular dental practice for a clean from the hygenist and regular 6 month check-up from dentist. Service NSW check-in and temperature check on arrival, extra clean of chair surfaces etc between patients. No change from visits in Feb when everything was open nor during August last year when we were also not locked down. So another data point that dental practices in NSW are open for more than just emmergency work, if yours isnt maybe find a better one who is.

Funny I thought the definition of a better dentist was one who excelled in dentistry not one who allows you to have a routine check and clean in lockdown situations.I am old fashioned.

The practice i go to is top rated, all dentists have multiple specialities including surgical privileges, lead with latest technology and techniques and the senior owner also teaches at Sydney Uni. You have no basis to question their qualifications, doubtful you could find better.

BUT you completely missed poimt that lockdown restrictions in NSW do not prohibit dental check ups, nor visit to optomitrist for eye checks needed for license renewal etc.

As you would well know, poor dental health leads to other poor health outcomes. Skipping essential care due to scarr mongering is illogical. Im well and vaccinated, all staff also well and fully vaxed and using PPE.

Scare mongering re a health check is simply silly. Im not going to sacrifice my health when legally allowed to go to dentist.

Good news for the people of NSW.

I hope Victoria is dragged along to this party out of embarrassment. The fact you can't leave your house for a walk after 9pm is really getting to me (oh wait, tonight I can walk home after work since I have my government papers permitting me to be on the footpath...)

And I hope the ACT also goes along with this too Instead of holding out for 90% or including 12-15 in the targets as the Chief Minister has hinted previously.

Well we hope so, it appears the health advice has been taken with a ‘pinch of salt’ by the NSW government so let’s hope it works out in the medium term too.

Ratings and views have been sliding for the 11am press conference recently but I’m sure today’s will buck the trend!

I think overruling health advice undermines confidence.

How can we ever be sure whether decisions are based on the best health outcomes for us a citizens, or pandering to what business wants. The two seem rarely aligned.

Unfortunately too many businesses are focused on short-term objectives (need to meet next month's rent) rather than the long term: just because you are allowed to open doesn't mean people will come, or that you will have consumer confidence.

I have all the time in the world for doctors / nurses / ambulance workers so on and so forth, but medical people are just a facet to how decisions should be made for a country not the be all and end all. They are being overly amplified in my opinion.

What do you think the health advice would be on banning smoking? banning alcohol? having restrictions on the amount of sugar in products?

The health advice apparently being overruled is the date - perhaps NSW Health wanted a few weeks either for effectiveness of second dose to kick in or to make sure ICU numbers are manageable.

The first example might be truly health advice, the second could be seen as not.

What public health risks do you see between fully vaccinated only allowed out?

There is a lot of utter cluelessness in this.

Many businesses are individuals, couples, or families who do indeed “need to make next month’s rent”. Must be nice to be immune from such pressures, but many many many people need businesses to be operating to make a basic living AND MAINTAIN THEIR HEALTH.

Citizens like governments have to consider more than health outcomes.

Economic, mental health, relationships, quality of life (for those who don't have much left). It all must be balanced.

You can speak for your own state but I think you'll find the majority of NSW (and both political sides) are supportive of this plan.

I honestly don't know whether businesses give thought to the long term? They might get this month's rent, but what happens when there's a significant ramp up in cases? Are their customers still going to be flocking to their venues? Melbourne 'opened' with almost full return to work permitted. The workers didn't want to come. And they stayed away.

Is it worth one or two week's trading followed by potentially months of no one wanting to visit busy restaurants or pubs?
