Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Donut day was just zero found cases, what it really was though were hundreds of infected people floating about going to work, socialising, playing sport etc all spreading the virus

Which has likely been the case in Queensland for a long time. Can’t find what you’re not really looking for. The best bet for the northern folk is to not line up for testing.

You may have forgotten that Vic went into lockdown, but then stopped lockdown, before recommencing it again. By the time they recommenced lockdown the teacher, partner and parents had already spread the virus via transmission chains to hundreds of other people as they had been infectious for over a week prior to donut day.

So the bigger problem really was not when did the first lockdown start, but it being stopped (too early).
I think it could be attributed also to that well know human condition - hubris!

Even after it got away in NSW other states wanted to believe that it was the fault of a supposedly faux lockdown rather than a more infectious strain that could not be contained by past measures.

I'd heard about a group being denied entry into Qld when listening to the 10am Government media briefing, now I know who they are:

"sweeping new restrictions" in Qld are merely a change to level 2 - don't let a good story (headlines) get in the way of the truth. We'll go into lockdown after the NRL GF if numbers keep spiking - plus who are the unlucky 25% whose tickets won't be honoured?

I'd forgotten I had met our State Premier in our youth (more than once, but this photo at Fridays on Eagle Street Brisbane circa 1989 - thankfully I'm not in it). She was alright back then ;). I'm not on her side of politics (same as a Minister and an MLA, with both of whom I went to school). I jut hope she gets it right for the majority and not the minority (those attending the GF).

Yes we can’t test, contact trace or vaccinate. We are a triple threat 😂

Can't be large numbers of cases 'for a long time' or some would have inevitably ended up needing hospitalization. The latter haven't appeared, so the former didn't happen (yet).

Big Bad Breaking News in SA.......

The CHO has announced that a big scary truck driver has tested positive to Covid. Sadly for the people of SA, the truck driver is from SA, the CHO has warned that there is still a number of sock drawers that are yet to have been rearranged - so be warned people, the CHO's hand is firmly on the trigger.

It's believe the big scary truck driver may have been at a footy game and had touched a football that the big sweaty men had touched.

Barr is on a hiding to nothing.

He says Dec 1 and you're happy.

He says 95% of 12+ and you go nuts.

The ACT will probably achieve 95% before Dec 1.
Id much rather his actions matched his words in adhering the national plan which goes out the window when he starts talking about 12+ which arent in the national plan at all. not to mention prioritizing 12-15 over giving elderly cohorts a choice.

will i be happy for a Dec 1 removal of government shackles? absolutely and thankfully he seems to be getting the message that he is a little worm on a big hook with NSW written on it.

Would I rather he open up before Dec sure, do i have a trip overseas in early Dec ... also yes.

The idea i have to be entirely against everything he says or fully behind every decision is somewhat myopic.

The weird thing about this is that he is now already in Victoria as he was tested on the way out of SA. Seems to have done everything correctly and wife who works in aged care is fully vaccinated and is currently negative. But now she and her baby are having to go into isolation and hopefully not a med hotel.

Perhaps. However given Queensland shares a land border with NSW and has a huge volume of essential traffic from NSW and Vic on a daily basis however still maintains an almost embarrassingly small number of daily tests, I’d be extremely surprised if it’s not circulating undetected.

The state vs state thing has been boring from the start.
Perpetuated by many whose only expertise is the use of the crystal ball of perfection but are as ignorant as the next.

No one in the entire world has managed the Covid pandemic (or for that matter any pandemic in history) perfectly. There are so many facets and variables to the pandemic that are not mutually exclusive.

Read through history and replace the pathogens of the past with Covid and you will find threads of similarity,

If everyone uses the crystal ball of perfection, then ask why no one can predict what’s going to happen with certainty? And then maybe realise that any opinions basically are as accurate as the next punter?

Dan and Jerome clearly blaming home gatherings, particularly for AFL over the weekend...

Far more infections today in young men, and also lots of new households infected, which probably means lots of secondary infections over coming days.

I must be living in a boring suburb. On the GF weekend, only saw many picnicking at the park and kids and teens riding their bikes. Didn't notice any extra cars parked on the street.

I see. So there's a "national plan" that every single state and territory is interpreting in its own way, and you believe the problem is with them rather than the "national plan"?

Seriously puzzled by this fixation with Andrew Barr given that the ACT is the fastest vaccinating jurisdiction, completely surrounded by another jurisdiction (and cognizant of that), and of very little importance economically. And the difference between them using 12+ or 16+, or using 80% or 90% or whatever as their target level, all adds up to a couple of extra weeks at most.

The ABC were pushing SA CHO about our opening when 80% is reached. Is the number 3000? 4000? when widespread restrictions will be imposed again? Spurrier refused to give a figure. Said it's up to how many people contact tracers can cope with. She talked about widespread closures for not just the positive people, but their contacts, plus anyone whose QR code showed they had been in a proximity at the time. There would be constant police checks on people supposed to be isolation. To be honest it sounded like it will be worse than now as we will have an outbreak. There will be trouble in SA if people start being heavily impacted by unnecessary restrictions and we have an election in March. Until we have a NSW or Vic outbreak she is still aiming for zero it seems.

That doesn't suit them to do so yet the Head Office was notified as a place of close contact. Do they not follow footy too?
Think we will find these two events have much overlap in the venn diagram - why they have not set up 24 hr test and vax clinics in hot spots is beyond me… probably suits narrative now that the ‘posh’ East have cases.., although not sure what this achieved
