Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Totally get that concept. 14 days iso and three tests in SA, if in the same place (regardless of size of that place, nor vaccination status) and we are required to wear masks always inside. And isolate. Ummm, why?

Exactly. So why would you risk checking in

I agree the 7 day quarantine is just a very temporary measure until it’s killed all together will probably end up test and release at an absolute maximum.

The government(s) is/are just baby stepping people so they don’t shriek too much.

Plus is highly unlikely anyone is paying much attention to them anymore anyway. Especially now so many people are double vaxxed.

Massive drop off in people checking in, in NSW to avoid any iso - I’m sure that is happening everywhere. People are completely over it.
Whats the source for the massive drop in NSW Services App Check-in ?
I’m not seeing that on the ground here. Not at all.
Definitely a lot more movement all over but all of the essential shops etc have someone on the door observing masks and checking in.

Daily, on-site, pre-shift rapid antigen testing began at my workplace this weekend. Glad I'm not paying the bills...!

My theory on Canberra is we have very good and sneaky W4D drivers and lots of fire trails. And I know there are some covid deniers in there as well. Just across the border, illegal shooters know the tricks. Many ex Melbourne people, so Melb cup day will be an.. event - or not because we will be at 92%. I believe the unnecessary delay is an excuse so the ignorant have a last shot at a jab. In which case, why are there not 60 Minute like stopwatch commercials saying time is running out. tick tick. We are in the 3 week period - and no such commercials.

Maybe they selected the interviews tonight on TV but the people wanting WA to stay shut - for years - was mind blowing. Even young hippie style surfies. SIL is in Perth and sees no need to open. The fact her only son is in Melbourne and cannot/will not be able to visit her, either escapes her or she doesn't care. I cannot talk to her any more.

Well, from what I can tell, that represents the prevailing view. Thr problem is, if it doesn't affect you then it doesn't;t affect you. So, much of the population views themselves as having great freedoms, while other parts of Australia (and the world) are having their issues.

Of course, if you have reasons to travel and discover you need to apply to the police for permission to travel home, you wonder just what freedoms people are talking about....

100% this is happening.
In rural NSW rife -not checking in. The numbers on the app will support this - so enforcement is in the gutter. Bakery and Coffee shops are the worst. I see people stroll in and order first,(counter staff know damn well they did not check in) then pretend to fumble with their phones on the way out. Meanwhile the caught protesters - are NOT paying their fines - so I hear.

In my LGA I have seen a very high level of QR code use, but then I am only going out to places for essential services :D, being in Southern Sydney.

Was reported in media a week or so ago and link also posted in here on the Virus spread thread.

Oh well, there’s not that much to stress about in the ACT anyway as their vax rate is so high, as it should be being a small territory.

Yes
Many of us have had these conversations w friends/rels in ‘WhAustralia(?)’ - fortress mentality but without any active viral suppression strategies so luck is the actual determinant 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ - crowing about how ’successful’ this has been.

I probably feel sad due to my restricted life here in Melbourne but you don’t have to be here to have empathy…we will all get there in the end and I never need to travel there again. I would have thought there is only so much $$ coming from hippies/grey nomads….

interesting times - bring on Lake Como (cheaper than Broome!!)

..garnishee the Centrelink?

hmm QR checkin...yes I do it without fail & do see many do it, but certainly the fall back is you get put into 14 days iso from tier 1.
I imagine bugger the QR unless asked, watch the DHHS website (as I do) and if a store/location comes up that I suspect I've been to, just be very watchful for symptoms & just go for a test regardless after few days (with a fake cough etc on arriving for test)
Fair amount of common sense would be req'd by an individual to play the above.

I say this as still so very unlikely to have caught covid just cos attended a tier 1 location.

above off topic, so I'll throw in my prediction of international travel, NSW & VIC November, ACT December, that's all I dare to predict.

NT Domestic - Round 1 AFL 2022
NT International - June 2022 (cancelled LHR over the weekend for May, looking to re-book ~12th Sept 2022)

We had to checkin at multiple places in the north of Tasmania over the weekend and virtually all had some one who could view your entering and saying thank you for using the QR code or go back and scan-not to us but others. The only place that didn't was the BP I went to.But he did see me check in.

Here in ACT, several supermarkets and a pharmac_ I visit regularly do not have anyone on the door checking check-in. So if you didn't want to check in, there is no one making you.

One supermarket I visit does have a very bored looking, externally engaged contractor security guard at the door. He never, never checks that you have actually checked in - as long as you point the phone at the sign, he could not care less. We found this out by accident when my 87 yr old mum accidentally (genuinely) forgot to click the final 'check in now' button on ACT app and happily shopped away and only noticed it at the next check in .

Additionally, in my area of ACT, a lot of the 'walk up but don't come in' shops that serve from a counter in a mall, like bakery, sushi and takeaway fried chicken have codes up but do not even make any attempt to check that people have used them.

So my observation supports the comments of others that check in is becoming a bit hit or miss.

Hope they didn’t go to the grand final 😂
