Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

News from QLD this morning....

"Masks will no longer be required when 80% of eligible Queenslanders have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine That means no masks indoors including schools, cafés, pubs, clubs, hairdressers and workplaces."

Meanwhile in SA, the good Professor will have us in masks until 2042.
She should have made it 80% double vaxxed or 90% single vaxxed. She is just enabling anti-vaxxers by giving them everything they want. They contribute nothing but have total freedom. Meanwhile we have double vaxxed people camping in cars on the border and residents unable to book a flght in from overseas as she has the airlines spooked. I have never seen a premier so determined to trash her state's biggest industry - tourism by not giving certainty to the airlines. The USA is freezing right now, millions of cashed up Americans will be looking for fun in the sun, other countries will get their business.

. And before someone jumps in, Premiers, like me, can also make judgements on health risks.

Ho hum .... 🙄

Remember it’s not health advice in Tasmania, it’s entirely political posturing. So you can’t connect any dots when it’s political decisions…
Political posturing or not I know who I'd rather have in charge of my state🤣

There will be lots of ranting on social media. And honestly, given no community transmission since July, it's fully warranted. We continue to be hamstrung by nonsensical restrictions with no community spread. Makes no health sense regardless of how they try to spin it. When the borders open - yes, makes sense. Now and the last five months? Makes no sense at all. It's actually too late now to withdraw the rule given 23 Nov is getting closer.
What does the SA roadmap say in terms of ditching the masks?
In Vic we've ditched the requirement for them (except Public Transport hospitals & Aged Care etc) at 80% double juiced, but we had covid transmission right up till that point & still now 1000 cases per day.

In the past we did ditch them once transmission was zero for some time, far less than your mentioned 5 months.

Seems very silly you guys still having to wear them. Just makes ppl lose complete confidence & adherence to gov rules re; covid regs.

BTW; I'm happy to read that you'll be seeing your family & wedding o/s in 2022. That's bloody great!!

Exactly, going to be so hard to get to 90% double vaxxed, I hope she changes the % for overseas arrivals. I'm going to the UK for 2 weeks to see my parents, returing 7 Jan into Sydney. At this rate I'll have to spend another 2 weeks in NSW before I can cross back into QLD, unless I'm allowed to home quarantine with my husband and kids who are not travelling and won't be isolating.

The road map makes no mention of ditching them at any time.

EDIT - I’m wrong. At 90% 12+ fully vaxxed only in high risk settings. Thanks @jase05

I'm not against moving masks, but I would think you open the borders, then remove the masks.

Seems like they've got their priorities out of whack.

When Tas opens it's borders, I expect with covid, we'll also get masks. I am very much in favour of opening the border, but there will be a number of negatives, not just the ( accepted) intro of covid.

What's the latest deal re deep cleaning now after an infected person's visit?
I see now Melbourne Museum is closed for deep cleaning. Don't you just need to ventilate the place since the virus can't really transmit via surfaces?
It's nothing but theatre and is costing an absolute fortune. Anyone would think governments run the cleaning contractors.

According to friends they are also deep cleaning in NSW schools and child care. Aware of an instance where another positive pops up precisely after each deep clean/resumption.

Since we are in the business of commentating on other state government's measures ...

How bizarre that the QLD govt is mandating double Vax for sports, hospitality, galleries, libraries, etc etc but not gyms. I mean who sat round a table and decided - oh, libraries, a hot bed of disease transmission must be double vaxxed - but gyms, nah. Sweat on everything, heavy to explosive breathing, shared change rooms and showers etc. No worries!

Not true, has been stated numerous times by the 3 Amigos that at the 90% of 12+ masks would only be required in high risk settings such as aged care facilities and hospitals.
Really? Excellent.

Yes, it’s a part of the road map. Just need to get a wiggle on and hopefully it’s before Christmas
Can’t see that with the 12+ added in now. Still many might just be concerned to get their children vaccinated.

I honestly have no idea what the QLD government is doing it’s a shambles. None of this is health advice it’s just tools to try and drive up an appalling vax rate but it’s so piecemeal it doesn’t have sense and the announcement was incoherent (well that part is normal).

Obviously someone who goes to the gym but not the library
Obviously! Since I go to both almost work-day daily 😉 The archives are in the library here 🤣.

And I spent the entire weekend in and out of a gallery 🙄

But it’s OK, given Tas’ record with Covid. Edited

Once Tasmania takes the majority of hotel quarantine and international freight we can make a fair comparison.

Even just a fair per capita allocation.

You get the government you vote for and it does the deals that’s best for it.
