The woman from Cairns who tested positive in Darwin is the origin case . She flew to SA drove to Victoria for 4 days then flew back to Cairns and made a false declaration on her NT entry permit
Drove back into SA first before catching the flight back to Cairns. How did she get to drive into SA from Victoria. Also likely infectious whilst in SA. SA will no doubt have some mealy mouth excuses for her but put harsh restrictions on those unfortunate enough to be in the same place.

Can’t patrol all border entries.
There are plenty of ways over here if you are desperate enough

Exactly, it's ~400km long stretch and even though some politicians would love to build a great big wall (and make the other side pay for it) this hasn't quite occurred just yet.

What will be interesting is if the SA and QLD govts fine this person as well. She's been charged $5024 by the NT gov plus a $2500 stay in howard springs. A QLD fine is $4135 and a SA fine is $1000 (although in both cases a court can increase that). I hope they both do it because over $12k in fines is just a drop in the ocean compared to the amount of disruption this has caused.

Back of a grain train wagon!

Just another data point of how silly a lot of these restrictions are long term if they need to be 100% effective

Just waiting for the announcements later today. It’s not what she did that’s the issue but the lockdowns that occur.

Gotta laugh. In 2 weeks I’ll fly into Darwin from London with a plane load of covid no doubt. And we’ll be welcomed into the “lounge” to enjoy a laksa from the night markets. Yet the same territory locks down when somebody sneezes. Absolute insanity.

ABC, discussing arrangements at DIA :

“In preparation for this flight, we've prepared a COVID-19 management plan approved by the Department of Health, from end to end, so [encompassing] how it will be cleaned, maintain separation, PPE for those who go into the community," he said.

Mr Porter said staff were PCR tested every seven days, were all double vaccinated, and that face shields, masks, gloves and "copious amounts" of hand sanitiser were used as needed.”

As we’ve seen previously, it has to come close to home before some will act...
From Michael Gunners presser this morning: the 3 positive tests, (this woman as the origin case, the man who was the index case identified 3 days ago and his housemate) have prompted 2000 Territorians or almost 2% of the NT population to get vaxxed or make an appointment to do so yesterday.

But they aren't long term. QLD and SA both have dates on when their borders will open and they never were designed to be 100% effective. This is the current QLD/NSW border, obviously the covid proof barrier isn't doing much but you've got to draw the line somewhere:

Still hard to see one day in next couple of months these COVID Zero states going from 'oh my god we are all going to die' to 'we are now just going to live with COVID'. Massive change of culture.

At least we have someone to direct our thanks or anger towards.

New Zealand as a unitary state is trying to work out how it’s going to let Aucklanders out of their prison for Christmas. Needless to say such decisions are complicated.

Though earlier this year the SA/QLD border was closed when we visited Thargomindah.Their council website had cameras on all SA/QLD crossings and at each one you could see a SA police car.Might not be too long but far more remote than the Vic border.

What do you mean, there are dates set for December for all of them (well QLD, SA and TAS), there’s been more than enough time for them to vaccinate and have some cultures injected into them 😂. If they need some more culture they can visit Melbourne ;)

Flying from PER to ADL in next hour and will get a broom shoved up my nose in ADL airport as 8 days ago I was in COVID riddled Alice Springs before I left on holiday.

Even WA doesnt have restrictions on NT! SA is a stupid marshmallow scaredy cat state. And they are opening in Dec? See how that goes.

Ha post of the week. Can’t really disagree with you on the stupidity of things right now.

But come December all of this garbage will start falling away very quickly, people in the prison states will acclimatise and if they don’t then who really cares.

My WA based parents are livid they are going to miss family Xmas because of the stranglehold the anti-vaxxers have on WA and we are also going to Melbourne for Moulin Rouge - probably early next year and they STILL won’t be able to come…

Actually, 23 November.

SIL in WA has finally realised that unless they open up there she won't be seeing her son in Victoria. It's been over a year and sadly she lost her husband the year before. She does have a daughter nearby so not all grim. Her main concern is having to have the test to return to WA. One forgets how protected they've been 'over there'. She has been vaccinated a while now though.

4 days - was she vaccinated?

If fully vaxxed, that might make Tas Premier’s 7 day rule for returning residents be a little shaky.

Who caused the disruption though? The woman, or the state governments?
