Flashbacks to Daniel Andrews a couple of months ago saying that if you leave your house you will end up in hospital

‘The virus will hunt you out’: Three local cases in Qld spark warning

The trend of cases being higher in regional areas where population and vaccination numbers are lower continues. Breakdown of today's cases by Local Health Districts (LHD):
  • 103 from Hunter New England
  • 53 from South Western Sydney
  • 36 from Murrumbidgee
  • 20 from Sydney
  • 17 from South Eastern Sydney
  • 16 from Western Sydney
  • 14 from Mid North Coast
  • 12 from Nepean Blue Mountains
  • Eight from Illawarra Shoalhaven
  • Seven from Northern Sydney
  • Seven from Western NSW
  • Five from Northern NSW
  • Two from Southern NSW
  • One from Central Coast
  • And seven are unassigned to an LHD
They seem most concerned about Moree area in HNE LHD where double dose vax is a pitiful 40%.

Another problem with QLD is the number of tests. That article says 5098 tests done which is 1 in 1000 of QLD's population of 5.2 million. If NSW was testing at the same rate they would be doing ~8200 tests per day rather than the ~ 100000 per day that they are doing.

As in some states aren't testing enough, so their numbers a lower than reality, so we need to keep the wall up.

Curious as to what you think the testing rate should be?

WA has the lowest rate of testing even when there have been HQ escapes and you have gone into lockdown. Queensland also has incredibly low test rates (and lower than average vaccination rates) considering the number of HQ breach scares, yet WA welcomes Queenslander with open arms.

Testing rates in NSW, ACT and Victoria this year have averaged 2-3 times the rate of last year. Asymptomatic testing except for high risk workers i.e. HQ and hospitals has yielded little benefit.

Asymptomatic cases shouldn't be of concern except in the they work with the vulnerable, in which case are already having routine workplace surveillance testing.

Doesn't matter what I think it should be. It was (one of) McGowans reasons for keeping NSW at an extreme rating for so long.

Fixed that for you.

Given NSW has the highest rate of testing so doesn't really hold up at all.

It will be interesting to see what testing rate is in WA if at some point in the next decade the domestic border controls actually come down.

Yep, for the first time, the majority of HNE cases are outside of Greater Newcastle.

Cases in Greater Newcastle are going down, just like they did in Sydney (the Newcastle DD rate is now above 85% and the other three LGAs are above 90% - Port Stephens, Maitland and Lake Macquarie)

So effectively the same thing is happening within the HNE district as it did in NSW as a whole.

While we are talking about SA. I just got my SA permit for a visit next week. Lists dos and don’ts. Mask on in airports and in place on SA airspace but other than that, no mention. Maybe visitors are exempt from wearing masks otherwise? 😊
Speaking from my experience, you wear a mask whilst flying. Exception being whilst eating and drinking. If you're well organised, this will be most of the flight. You wear a mask during Covid scrutiny and baggage collection. Outside the terminal, mask off. After that, it's your call. Inside businesses, mask on, but some don't seem to care anymore.
None of the above is based on whatever the latest ruling is, it's simply what I've observed on the ground.

Gunner about to call a 10PM presser over a positive local COVID case in NT according to the rumour mill

Edit: 72 hour lockdown in Katherine due to case at RAAF Tindal in an unvaccinated individual.

Gotta laugh. In 2 weeks I’ll fly into Darwin from London with a plane load of covid no doubt. And we’ll be welcomed into the “lounge” to enjoy a laksa from the night markets. Yet the same territory locks down when somebody sneezes. Absolute insanity.

To be fair, the laska will only be inspired from the Mindil Beach markets. It will be made in the airport kitchen.

Markets don't run in the wet season.

The risk of you encountering a Territorian other than airport staff is probably zero.

This is true. And to be honest I can’t see myself being up for any form of Laksa after 17 hours…

They may well be airport staff, but short of them living in a cocoon, they’ll return to the streets of Darwin.

You can also get a mean Laksa at Parap Markets.
