Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

QLD asks hundreds of casual contacts into isolation for 14 days but again waves PM in who was also a casual contact…. With zero isolation asked… Seriously?

The PM said the QLD CHO approved this because he is fully vaccinated and had 2 negative tests….

Cool - so this rule needs to apply to everyone.

Almost all of us are double vaxxed, loads are triple and I’m sure all would be happy to get a test to get out of an isolation instruction.

Absolute garbage.

And people are wondering why people aren’t slavishly following directions anymore.

Breaking news: QLD has been forced to backflip on this ludicrous decision.

Our QLD health minister has just stuttered out a half-apology, now saying only the people directly in front and behind need to isolate.

Another massive gaffe by QLD health but at least our new CHO jumped on it and walked it back. The old CHO would have told them to sod off and disappear so at least we are getting slightly better.

QLD health minister has told people from interstate to please not cancel their holidays…!

Christmas quarantine decision reversed as Queensland records six new cases

Queensland has recorded six new COVID cases from interstate arrivals, as authorities backflipped on a decision to plunge two planeloads of travellers into mandatory quarantine over Christmas after a large public outcry.

On Tuesday night, Queensland Health declared all passengers on flight VA1105 from Newcastle to Brisbane and flight VA375 from Brisbane to Townsville on Monday as close contacts after a positive case travelled on the flights. Most have now been released.

NSW redefines close contacts to household members of confirmed cases only.

Can be released with a negative PCR.

That’s it! No more close contacts anywhere else….

So same as Vic then. But Victoria changed the play book today with the week long quarantine of people at those two bars in Melbourne. So...hopefully that's reversed very quickly once they forget about trying the impossible and keeping Omicron out

The more cases SA is getting the more realistic the objective.

Suspect it will be… omicron is going to rip around everywhere. It’s going to find all the anti vaxxers pretty quickly too.

Hazzard predicting 25k daily cases in NSW and Sutton predicting a daily doubling of cases in Victoria. Let’s see if they are remotely close to the mark

25k? Better get those testing numbers up! Although if they get 25k out of 150k tests then we might as well just say everyone’s had it and move on.

They haven't shown any predilection towards not trying the impossible in the last two years, so what would make them start now?

I wonder what sort of holiday cancellation rate Qld was getting? As the numbers of whatever the new variant(s) is called go up, I assume Qld will ultimately close the border again. With the threat of being thrown into quarantine (which is only going to increase), you'd have to be pretty keen to persist with any bookings.

If they do go back to border closures, then I think something will break, whether civil disobedience or similar. The backdown on isolating plane loads of people I think shows there is no going back - the polling must be very clear for the Qld govt to change. After all polling is all that pollies really care about.

Cases are at least doubling every day where I live so seems accurate.

They would probably be better not reporting the numbers at all.
Just report hospital stats by way of ED attendance, admission, ICU.

Which is what we were told would happen (in NSW anyway) once all the vulnerable had been vaccinated. So definitely time to catch up!

The issue is going to be having the entire country isolating together (might as well be a lockdown)

If 1% require hospitalization, thats 2,500 a day. For how long can that be sustained?
250 surely
Probably an even bigger issue is the number of hospital staff who are caught up in contact tracing-the more lenient rules do not apply to them

So you have to come up with better rules for the hospital staff, or simply close all of the hospitals. Actually that would be a good idea, as then you'd have zero hospital admissions from covid, and I vaguely seem to recall that the original idea for all of the restrictions was to smooth the hospital load.

Agree this should have already occurred. People need to be weaned off it so politicians get less involved and stop reacting to polls, it’s a vicious circle.

There’s hardly any contact tracing happening at all in the 3 states anyway with higher case numbers per capita, what state are you talking about?
