Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

There’s hardly any contact tracing happening at all in the 3 states anyway with higher case numbers per capita, what state are you talking about?
Mainly the inevitable exposures you get in a hospital but places like schools are still notifying exposures that medical families get caught up in

Well today's valiant efforts of the Victorian government clearly threatening people being locked down for Christmas if they're at a pub at the same time as omicron despite being fully vaccinated...have me wondering how wound back it might well be.

Enough that we have at very short notice altered our end of year celebration at work to not be at a public venue. Sorry to the businesses who would've seen $$ but if you want someone to blame, the government is who you should look to.

So within the last 30 mins I just got my first ever ping from Service NSW, from Theatre visit last Saturday, a casual notice to monitor for symptoms, no need to be tested or iso unless NSW health call me.

Our seats were front row of dress circle (no no one in front) and there were 4 sests between me and the person to my right, and no one to our left before the aisle, so feeling quite confident we are good as are fully vaxed and were masked.

Probably an even bigger issue is the number of hospital staff who are caught up in contact tracing-the more lenient rules do not apply to them
That’s proving to be a bit problematic.
One of the super spreader events was a final year Med Student ball.
Lots of Junior Drs furloughed.

I reckon that will be walked back shortly.

We are not cancelling our Melbourne Xmas Party at a bar and I’m going :)

I expect that too, but the people who work with me and the company we work for simply cannot take that risk knowing the potential outcome.

Again, the government have foolishly set the tone, this is squarely on them.

This is why it’s critical to check out. Same happened at a pub last weekend. All my mates got the ping, but I was ok because I left after 10 minutes.

and Sutton predicting a daily doubling of cases in Victoria. Let’s see if they are remotely close to the mark

Professor Sutton warned of a potential surge in Omicron infections, mirroring rises in New South Wales and overseas.
"I think we'll see a significant increase in our Omicron cases, the story globally is that it's doubling every two to three days," he said.
"It's gone from a few hundred cases in South Africa to tens of thousands in a matter of a few weeks, wherever it's seeded into Europe it's gone from small numbers to hundreds and thousands of cases in a relatively short period of time."

If you can somehow put aside the immense misery and tragedy this virus has caused, it truly is a most amazing beast.

My boss has a 3d print of one on his desk :)

Or don’t check in at all, I just left Sydney and only had to once the whole trip. And I think as of today (?) it becomes even easier not to right?

The SA app doesn't let you check out. I kept my Dans for a week until I attended Adelaide Oval and had to show Vacc status and check in. First time.

Not checking in was not an option at the theatre, no check in, no entry. But as i said there is zero consequence, just a flag on check in history that a case attended, no call to action, no need to test nor isolate.

But as of yesterday check-in largely a thing of the past, i noticed most stores have removed their door guards if not the QRs themselves.

Our clinics in NSW are now managing some omicron cases predictably. Some are completely and utterly asymptomatic and only got tested because of household contacts. This thing is going to move very very fast. Some people will have zero clue they have it.

These people saying "don't check in" must live in other states, as I don't think I've been to a single pub where it wasn't a 100% check at the door for check in & vaccination status. You can only comment on your own experience and that is mine.
When we travelled to Sydney we were really impressed with the process, and the checkout feature, but other than the cricket, the only other place in Adelaide I've been asked was our local bottle shop. And they strictly enforce it.

Yes I definitely didn’t have time to go to the theatre this time! (Going to Harry Potter in Melbourne!) but the Sydney inner city restaurants and cafes we went to weren’t checking thankfully. But as you say it’s all out the window now anyway.

I agree, I find vast majority of retail spaces, certainly pubs / restaurants request on entry to QR & see Vax proof.

It's not a just I chose to just not check-in kinda deal.

I think NSW government has dropped QR checking in yesterday. Lots of anecdotal evidence of no codes and no QR security checks.

I guess the NSW government don't plan on sending/issuing many alerts (with no QR, they are relying on peoples' memory).

Its probably better for business to do away with QR check in if permitted because at least their staff and customers won't get pinged.
