My father (35+ year frontline healthcare veteran in Perth) left me a similarly inconsolable and very much not-like-him voicemail.

To condense it, they haven't prepared adequately in any way shape or form over 2 years, so the extra time they are buying is pointless. Open and get the pain and suffering over with is his opinion.

And to drop it in a late night press conference to try and bury it while he sweats and stutters though pretty simple questions all while knowing he’s crushing families, business and imprisoning people indefinitely with no end in sight just makes me want to HURL.

His argument is they have the strongest economy, lowest unemployment and business is normal pretty much

Weak argument though. It’s just kicking the can down the road (a term I’ve used a lot over the last two years).

I’d be more inclined to take the hit now and align with the rest of the country than do it in a few months time when the east coast has moved past it.

Wow, hard border staying
Blind freddy could have seen that coming. Cant believe anyone is remotely surprised, entirely consistent with McGowan's isolationist position.

Criticises the eastern states, but knowing he hasnt resourced his own health network to cope with even a tiny fraction of the cases cant open for fear of leaving himself open for a return serve.

Wonder how many WA residents are contemplating moving interstate permanently.

Over 500,000 have already had their booster, so from what I understand the benefits will be starting to wane by the end of March early April, they are being screwed over.

Doing over 150,000 boosters a week so a significant percentage would have been been boosted by Feb 5th

Had mine booked for tomorrow but will put it back until as late as possible.

I'm interested to hear of the impact that Covid has had on young people, say 12 and younger. And up until few days ago, not being vaccinated. I personally know of a few kids now, and by and large, being normally healthy kids, not one of them has been unwell other than just a very minor cold. The grandson has been much more poorly with the usual childcare grotty (and which he passed on to me). Son's step son - his mum said as a 12 year old, he's had a fun week off school. I know that some youngsters have been very unwell and while cagey about releasing personal details it's been clear there were other serious underling conditions. Which leads me to ask, do we really need to vaccinate 5-12 year Olds?

So do others here know of young children who've been laid very low with Covid?

My granddaughter in London aged 9 has just had a bout (still testing positive on her daily RAT), and had one day when she was off her food, had a cough and was very pale. She has a history of asthma, so we were worried, but it has not developed beyond the cough. Within three days she is back to her cheeky self. She is unvaccinated, and apparently 3/4 of her class have had it over the last few weeks. Her mother on the other hand, triple vaxxed, is having a tougher time but also seems to be picking up on her third day.

NSW - after those 5 consecutive days staying in the 330k-350k active range, now 4 consecutive days of 5-digit active decreases; plus 2 consecutive days of decreases in both hospitalisation and ICU.

edit - typo meant 350k, not 3350k

But people (naturally) are freaking out by deaths. That's all they see.

Most parents and grandparents would be interested in hearing.

Know of a 7 year old in Sydney who was unwell enough to be prescribed antibiotics and 9 year old in Melbourne that had one off day. Both diagnosed off a RAT. The rest of the Sydney family never got a positive, the Melbourne family all eventually got positive. All vaccinated/boosted, kids got positive before even a chance to get first dose.

The only unknown factor with all these anecdotal is which variant.

The number is getting rather high.

Just because someone is possibly going to compare with flu

2017 1181 deaths
2020 36 deaths
2021 0 deaths (as at August) ....according to article

I’d suggest my lot had omicron travelling from UK. The triple vaccinated parents were unwell for five days, the unvaccinated toddler just grizzly for a couple of days but no cough just tired. But that could also be jet lag as well as it went bust within 12 hours of arrival back. All tested by PCR and adults tested positive on UK RATS.

Correct me if I’m wrong (I only just looked it up quickly), but in Perth at the moment mask wearing is mandatory, proof of vaccination is required and QR code check ins are required.

Is that not exactly the same as the situation in Sydney and Melbourne? I’m struggling to see how things are better in Perth yet a disaster “over East”

The only argument he would have is everyone is going out to restaurants and retails ...... I mean the eastern states are probably having a pseudo lockdown with not many people going out for dining and shopping?
