It's funny actually, some of my mates don't have any work / family / holiday aspiration connection to WA whatsoever (I have all 3 as most people on here know!) and they honestly have zero idea that WA isn't open ("Can't you just get a permit to visit your folks?").

They also literally could not give a dogs poo about WA anyway in general, like - at all- so I would actually think a lot of people who don't have vested interest probably don't care that WA is a prison state these days..... its really bizarre.

The last 4 posts on the previous page on this thread are about WA. Australian state border restrictions thread has a lot of WA comments.

I don't find what you say bizarre at all. If I had no intent to travel to NZ (or family there), I wouldn't be worried about border restrictions or red 'lockdown'/lockout either.

But on AFF threads WA border is a reasonably big splash topic - and given the OP wrote the same thing essentially on multiple threads, it could have been easily noticed.

I think that it’s for a few other reasons broader than the specific impact of crossing the border itself.

  • It’s the lack of normality for the country itself
  • The impact it’s having on our two major carriers financially and operationally
  • The financial impact on airports
  • Tourism impacts
  • Disruptions to international connections through Perth
  • There are flow on impacts to those who deal with freight and logistics
  • The sense of being denied entry to something creates an innate curiosity to go there or at least be allowed to go there
  • People who believe in the concept of Australia including constitutional lawyers and those who think of the defence implications
  • A certain degree of animosity for the vitriol real or perceived dished out and perceived “stuff you” and “living your best life” comments from the west, when we suffered.

Okay....... I was just relating a real world experience outside of the AFF micro-system I thought was interesting. No worries :)
 
65 or so of the 287 in hospital in SA are there with Covid and not because of it. That's a fair chunk.

Australia Day celebration in WA cancelled due to COVID cases​

The Shire of Cunderdin, about 160 kilometres east of Perth, has cancelled its Australia Day events after a positive COVID case was confirmed in the town.

Shire President, Alison Harris, says the case was confirmed on Monday.

She says the risk to the community is believed to be minimal, but the shire did not want to put anyone at risk.

"Unfortunately we did have to cancel our Australia Day event we did have a positive case recorded in Cunderdin although I believe it was a person returning from holidaying in the Southwest where they contracted their COVID," she said.
