Not sure where to put this - maybe in the humour thread. I think its paywalled, but you can google the headline

Anti-vax doctor Stephen Hindley to run for the seat of Franklin as One Nation candidate

The compete loony tune package:

Mr Hindley believes that the September 11 terrorist attacks in the US were deliberately orchestrated to prepare people to accept Covid-19 and the subsequent vaccine rollout.

He also believes that Australian Federal Police are using microwave weapons against anti-vax protesters to silence dissenters.
It beggars belief that someone with a medical degree can think like that but there you go - it takes all kinds

I was addressing the "at the moment", as that doesnt hold anymore. I also agree there have been hospitalisations with covid in the past. Bragging about no hospitalisations as the OP (not you) did was never going to age well.

The closed WA border has not prevented community omicron spread, and as the numbers rise we will see more hospitalisations with covid. The rest of the country accepts ghis and has moved on, those in WA who still want to hide under doona will also have to accept this too.
"At the moment" means just that: at that moment in time.

No one was "bragging" about there being no hospitalisations at the time of posting, just stating a fact.

It might not officially have opened up but you now have Omicron circulating in the community.
The accidental "opening " up came with the events surrounding Feb 5th.
And no matter how you want to interpret vaccination rates NSW,ACT,Vic,Tassie and SA have always been ahead of the WA rates. Finally people are scared and playing catch up.

Thank you for admitting that WA has not yet fully opened up. Yes the WA Govt did change it's policy (about time) & allow community cases to spread.

FYI WA currently has a higher booster % than NSW, Vic & Tas on the +16 age grouping . If you roll it back to the 3 months eligibility period then WA actually has higher % of those eligible to be boosted than the ACT.

Hasn't the government basically forced people to take boosters. These "incentives" (blackmail?) help...

There’s still plenty of patients in NSW and elsewhere getting admitted to hospital due to Covid.
Yes some have other reasons but it is definitely not the majority at least of the many I have seen or been involved with.
Your experience is the same as the medical people I know in four Melbourne Hospitals have relayed to myself.

All i know is a friend who is ICU nurse in covid ward at Concord says almost all have comorbodities as is to be expected with such an elderly cohort.

The health surveillance reports also simply dont show heaps of young otherwise healthy people landing in hospital.

Also anecdotally omicron seems to be getting less contagious. Was at lunch today with a group where 3 separate guests lived with people who have had covid in last month, but neither they nor anyone else in the household caught it.

Though the Danish study of close household contacts says 29% contracted Covid but with the BA-2 variant it has gone up to 39%.
But agree healthy young people aren't landing in hospital in large numbers.

In our Tassie hospitals the hospitalised numbers are low but more than half are with Covid not because of Covid. The reason is they are admitted directly to hospital often with surgical conditions and test positive after they have been admitted.

Tassie numbers. Now only 10 in hospital of which 3 are solely for Covid. Testing numbers dropping.

Which supports what I was saying that most in hopsital are there because of other reasons with covid not because of covid.

WA Health is working with Ngaanyatjarra Health Service on the management of two COVID positive cases in Jameson - a remote Aboriginal community around 1000km east of Kalgoorlie.

According to a report on the ABC they had apparently crossed over from SA illegally via 'back roads'.

What frustrates me most is that they all act under the same (insert appropriate expletives) Health Advice and all have markedly different outcomes.

That's because...... Opinions. And like a certain body part, everyone has one.
