Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

You keep having a dig at WA on numerous threads. I have several holidays booked in WA over the next four months. And Tasmania. And Melbourne. Just get on with your life.
Sorry, don't think McGowan will let you live your lives for the next 2 months. Chasing tails, lockdowns, lockouts, code reds, code blacks, it'll be a total sh*tshow. Of course everything will be spun to make it seem everything under control and blame is on the dirty stinking Eastern Staters, but everyone (at least on AFF) will know better.

what's the problem with that?
90% of Australian population and some affected around the world will keep having a dig at WA for years now, at least until Supreme Leader and state daddy stays in power.

Exactly.
Spot on.

No fan of the WA approach but it does remind me of the old "I look down on him" Frost Report John Cleese/Two Ronnies sketch
Many of the criticisms levelled at WA by the East for keeping borders closed have been levelled at Australia from around the world over the past two years

Appreciate that neither we nor WA are very insightful of "our place"

The virus is spreading less rapidly in WA, probably because of the high incidence of vaccination before Covid took hold. And to date no hospitalisation.
NSW,Vic,ACT and Tasmania all had higher levels of Vaccination when they opened up than WA has now. WA is just at the start of their exponential increase in numbers.

What I meant was that NSW and Vic had Covid spreading into the community before vaccinations came along. Not about when they opened borders.

Not in Tasmania. Only an occasional positive and most were from Interstate and went from the airport to a quarantine hotel or returned to where they cam from the same day.
It took 2 weeks for Tasmanian numbers to get over 100.And that was with widespread testing -higher numbers of tests than WA now. However they are now down to a quarter of the numbers of the peak after opening.Though even now Tas is doing more tests per 100000 than WA as it only has ~ 20% of WA's population.

Your numbers are extremely likely to be far higher than reported. Just wait until it gets into Aged care facilities. That's when hospitalisations and deaths take off.

Same in SA. We had been Covid zero for months, Vax rate at 89% and over 93% first Vax and it took less than a few days to reach 100. And huge testing numbers.

How can WA be opening up with lower vaccination levels than the point in time NSW & Vic opened up when as of today the vaccination percentage for 16+ in WA is higher than both NSW & Vic on 1st dose, 2nd dose & boosters.

Tasmania opened up on Dec 15th I believe. At that date vaccinations were at +16 96.16% 1st dose, 90.63% 2nd dose, +12 95.15 1st dose, 89.24% 2nd dose. All of those figures are lower than where the current WA vaccination rates sit of +16 97.12% 1st dose, 94.36% 2nd dose, +12 96.3% 1st dose & 93.04% 2nd dose.

Except - Vaccination won’t prevent infection rate nor spread. And in Nursing homes vaccination may not prevent severe illness and death. And that will frighten people who’ve been used to big fat zeroes. It certainly has spooked many in SA. Then it hits child care and schools with no social distancing takes out several at a time. No vaccination in the younger ones means they share it and bring it home to others.

Not sure where to put this - maybe in the humour thread. I think its paywalled, but you can google the headline

Anti-vax doctor Stephen Hindley to run for the seat of Franklin as One Nation candidate

The compete loony tune package:

Mr Hindley believes that the September 11 terrorist attacks in the US were deliberately orchestrated to prepare people to accept Covid-19 and the subsequent vaccine rollout.

He also believes that Australian Federal Police are using microwave weapons against anti-vax protesters to silence dissenters.

Except you are using today's date for the WA numbers and on you link on Feb 8th when inadvertently your premier let covid in there were 250000 doses less than today which would put WA further down the list.
Now look at Tasmania today. +12s- 99% first dose, 96% second dose and 16+ over 50% 3rd doses. WA rates have been behind Tassies rates basically since the beginning.

WA Health recorded 222 new local cases of COVID-19 in WA to 8pm last night.
7 cases have also been recorded related to travel.
Today’s new cases include 11 self-reported positive RATs.
----
New active cases: 229
- Local: 222
- Other: 7
Total WA cases: 3,358
Total WA recoveries: 2,304
Active cases: 1,044
Cases in hospital: 2

PCR tests administered yesterday: 5,603

There have been (none at the moment)
Two reported today, no where can achieve zero hospitalisations given those that usually end up in hospital with covid are generally there for other conditions.

In your original post you said "NSW,Vic,ACT and Tasmania all had higher levels of Vaccination when they opened up". As many have lamented on here WA has still not opened to the rest of Australia so until 3rd of March you cannot say what vaccinations level WA will have achieved when "opened up".

My post was about the claim no-one had been hospitalised, when earlier in the year there had been a couple. There was series of day where they were reporting 1 in hospital - it wasn't the same person all the way through.

I'm not going to play the games of whether it was due to covid or with covid.

I was addressing the "at the moment", as that doesnt hold anymore. I also agree there have been hospitalisations with covid in the past. Bragging about no hospitalisations as the OP (not you) did was never going to age well.

The closed WA border has not prevented community omicron spread, and as the numbers rise we will see more hospitalisations with covid. The rest of the country accepts ghis and has moved on, those in WA who still want to hide under doona will also have to accept this too.

There’s still plenty of patients in NSW and elsewhere getting admitted to hospital due to Covid.
Yes some have other reasons but it is definitely not the majority at least of the many I have seen or been involved with.

It might not officially have opened up but you now have Omicron circulating in the community.
The accidental "opening " up came with the events surrounding Feb 5th.
And no matter how you want to interpret vaccination rates NSW,ACT,Vic,Tassie and SA have always been ahead of the WA rates. Finally people are scared and playing catch up.
