Certainly not having a shot at you.

They are obviously missing some - that has been the hallmark of Omicron world-wide.

However, the absence of any sign of an exponential increase but more tellingly, the absence of hospitalisations, indicates that very little of consequence is going on. Yet they harp on about more testing - under a pointless scenario.

If the recent research holds true about 80% of vaccinated people are asymptomatic… then why would they test I guess….? For fun? 😂

Everyone knows WA true case count is probably 4-5x what is being picked up. It’s such a highly vaccinated population.

I think that the very high booster rate achieved in WA before Omicron arrived will be assisting greatly in reducing the more severe health outcomes.

Though general hospitalisations should be picking up something.......that is if they are testing the asymptomatic. If they are not then that high booster rate may be masking infections.

However it is only really serious health outcomes that matter and not found infections ,called cases. So WA may never see the same case rate of the east, even if infections do eventually become widespread.

They actually will if they keep delaying the border opening because the effectiveness will wane from the previous bunch of vaccinations which could well lead to greater spread ironically!

Western Australia has reported a total of 62 new COVID-19 infections today.

48 were recorded locally
14 people tested positive having travelled from interstate.

Nobody is in hospital with COVID-19 in WA.

Personally I don’t care and would still wear masks if I get like it

Dr Nick Coatsworth predicts end to nationwide mask mandates

Dr Nick Coatsworth has called on a re-evaluation of Australia’s mask mandates in school, citing a lack of scientific evidence backing their effectiveness.

3 deaths in the NT all indigenous people in remote communities, 2 in their 40s. Unsurprisingly they had other health conditions.

Even with vaccination COVID was always going to be fairly devastating in these communities and i do worry what is to come for many of them.

I'm sure this has been playing on many minds in government and health.
Probably one of the reasons for the country's tough approach to borders until vaccination levels high
Sadly I understand vaccine hesitancy is rife in indigenous communities; those inciting it should (but no doubt won't) have troubled consciences

Aaand take off...

It has reached the North West, so it's spreading very far and wide now. Somewhat concerned for the indigenous communities. Mum is working in a remote town and they have had cases in the past few days. Hopefully she avoids it/vaccines do their job!

Up up and away. Hopefully this means more flights taking off soon too!

Chris Billington has some interesting projections. Progression of the COVID outbreak in Western Australia

It's definitely all over the place now. Tom Price and Newman have been mentioned today, but it is also all over the south west.

Have relatives in Tom Price so no doubt will hear about it. Their communities aren't exactly well provisioned for very sick people but hopefully a younger fitter population.

NSW to roll back QR codes and masks from Fri 25th.

Fair enough on QR codes.
I haven't had an alert now for weeks, so they aren't even processing them.

That prompted me to have a look. Bunnings was my usual alert site (largely because it’s the only retailer who enforced it strictly) however my last 5 visits have no alerts. Got one at the pub last Friday night, but I did forget to checkout so who knows when that could have been.

Realistically, you’d have to be pretty dense to rely on a QR Code alert (especially at a massive hardware store or supermarket) as a trigger for something. Then again, logic went out the window long ago for many.

Heard an ABC News report this morning that 9 Covid +ve people were at Gage Roads last Friday so that (& a few more similar seeding events) might give the numbers a bit of a help along.

Let's get the damn border open!

Edit: the latest report on the ABC website mentions 9 have since tested positive, so a bit different to what was on the radio

How convenient he wasn’t there for the requisite 2 hour period. 1 hour 45 minutes. 🙄

WA Health is reporting a total of 189 new cases to 8pm last night. Of these, 177 are local cases and 12 travel-related.

Today’s new cases include 33 self-reported positive RATs.

Today’s figures bring the State’s total number of active COVID-19 cases to 574. There is currently no-one in hospital.

WA has recorded 2,693 cases since the COVID-19 pandemic began, with 2,109 recovering from the virus.

7,502 people received PCR tests at either state-run or private pathology clinics yesterday.

(We seem to have given up on reporting unlinked cases)
