WA Health is reporting a total of 617 new cases to 8pm last night. Of these, 610 are local cases, and 7 travel related.

Today’s figures bring the State’s total number of active COVID-19 cases to 2272.

Today’s cases include 25 self-reported positive RATs.

Total current hospitalisations 7; (two new cases) there is no case in ICU*

You only need to look at the way I’ve been bullied on this forum many times for simply pointing out that fact.
C'mon man, that's so typical of today's world.
Somebody disagrees with your view & it's taken as bullying.....oh boy!

Anything close to bullying and the mods would've well n truly stepped in.

Agreed. And they have. Hasn’t stopped me being called a pig, told I should leave the country etc etc prior to it being pulled.

Did the ABS also report on how many didn't die with flu?
That was not the point of the report.

There are other ABS reports that discuss excess deaths in detail, but the report for the more recent period is not out.

We have seen it claimed in this thread that people were mainly not dying due to Covid, but just dying with Covid. I think the report provides information on this that people can choose to take on board or not.

As far as I am concerned, it is the excess deaths figures that will tell the tale. I know from my own medico friends they are worried that flu will sweep away large numbers as Covid retreats, unless vaccination rates for flu are stronger than usual.
Large numbers or the usual numbers for the flu? Which vary from year to year as some flu seasons are much worse than others. If you mean much larger than that variation, did your medico friends indicate why?

I doubt there is anyone that would believe that the flu is not coming back.

Flu cases, and flu deaths, will rise.

And it will not matter so much if Covid retreats or not. It just means that both the flu and Covid will be out and about.

With international travel returning, and less measures impacting mixing flu cases will rise and in turn the adverse health outcomes that it generates will also return.

What Covid does in future will overlap, just as it does with all other diseases.

We are all hoping that the future variants keep getting milder. They may or may not.

In the interim it appears that being triple dosed will help to minimise the number of severe health outcomes that Covid generates. As the % of triple dosed keeps rising which is excellent.

Living with Covid also means Living with the Flu. That is a given.

But you missed my point - the medicos I have spoken are concerned for a combined covid/flu season in winter with deaths perhaps higher than anything in the ABS report. As far as I can see the ABS report does not tell us anything crucial to living with covid - it is like so much data accumulated in the AIHW repository, great for planning and research.

This is the monster government has created. They loved the control, but now I think they’re all somewhat regretting it. Even McGowen to an extent can’t undo what he’s created.

I’ve crossed some people who, by all accounts, are fairly intelligent but cannot grasp the concept that people are going to die from this virus and it needs to be normalized. You only need to look at the way I’ve been bullied on this forum many times for simply pointing out that fact. The response from many is usually “what if it were your grandparents!!!! waaa waaa waaa”.

Well I did lose three of four grandparents and their deaths could have been avoided by the very measures we’re taking now or other forms of control, but I don’t recall ever advocating for that.

There will be leadership lessons left, right and centre from the last 2 years. Early on there was a joke about how the news on any given day is another chapter in the next generation's history textbooks.

Like most political decisions, I think it comes down to the crux that it's a decision that people have to make, I've previously suggested it's a trolley problem, perhaps a trolley problem on steroi_s. We could save more people with rare illnesses by funding expensive treatments for certain diseases, for example.

My own perceptions are shifting now that covid is a reality in WA and many people I know have had covid and recovered, either easily or through a period of difficulty. Before this, the only person I knew that had covid was a distant relative who, as I mentioned previously, passed away with covid, which undoubtedly accellerated some comorbidities. Mark did - for better or worse - stall that debate for us for two years, causing immense pain to some, but giving a (perhaps false) sense of security on this island within an island. Accepting the changing reality is difficult. All I can say is, I'm glad I'm not in charge.

One of the things I love about AFF is that it is generally a positive space. I am very sad that you've experienced that.

I agree. The biggest issue has been the way in which each side has simply played to the popularity of the day without thinking too hard about the future. It’s also a poor reflection on the Australian public, but one could argue that they only responded exactly as wanted.

I’d agree, this is the best Internet forum I’m involved in (and have been here for nearly 20 years). Unfortunately there is an element of society who work on the mantra “I’m right and therefore it’s my place to personally attack anyone who disagrees with me”. I see it a lot living in the Inner West. Ironically, they generally claim they want everyone to be treated equally (well, unless you don’t agree with them!)

Oh man, if you were on Reddit, you'd be slaughtered, not just bullied!

People will get the flu vax in droves trust me we are already getting hundreds of pre-bookings.

Thanks for clarifying.

And yes the ABS article is just a record of what has happened. It is not a forecast.

We have had a period with no Covid. Then a period of two years with Covid, but virtually no Flu.

We are about to start a period with both.

How bad this winter will be for Flu may well depend on how many people fly/boat into Australia.

How quickly Flu cases get back to typical levels is anyone's guess. It may be this winter, or it may be the one after.

That story says he is 'being tested' for COVID, I don't think it says the result (at the time I viewed it, just now)
You are correct. It was the click-bait on the main page that linked to the story that stated the "result", likely prematurely.
