1,027 cases reported in W.A. today from the 1,105 reported yesterday but from a lower PCR test number. Hospital numbers dropped from 15 to 13. The Govt. has also announced that every household in W.A would be supplied with an initial 5 free individual RAT swabs.

Amazing! I had not heard of this. (Don’t read newspapers and intermittently was ABC news.) I have ordered my pack now and forwarded to adult son to order his. I’d like to save taxpayers money on postage, but pick up is only at the airport!

I cannot believe that! Would you really have a stick up your nose for such a nonsensical reason?

This crazy covid had brought the crazies out in force.
Many curse the gov & do silly things like take not required covid tests, thinking it'll hurt the gov cos they pay blah.
Terrible I know.
Seen all kinds over last 18 months.

RATs are in plentiful supply these days and cases are falling so seems completely unecessary to be giving them away.

What a further waste of tax payers money…

That story says he is 'being tested' for COVID, I don't think it says the result (at the time I viewed it, just now)

You are correct. It was the click-bait on the main page that linked to the story that stated the "result", likely prematurely.

Dear Clive does seem to have caught the lurgy. From the Oz on-line

Clive Palmer has tested positive to Covid and is also being treated for pneumonia.

The billionaire was rushed to hospital on Thursday after becoming increasingly sick over the previous two days.

Mr Palmer’s wife, Anna, has also tested for Covid.

Both are unvaccinated.

Multiple sources close to Mr Palmer said he remains very sick and was also being treated for pneumonia.

Its targeted at people at people primarily in regional and remote area where access may not be so easy.

Also for many people $20 is alot of money, access to RAT tests as WA is about to go into its peak should be universal not only be for those that can afford them or who may be put off if money is tight.

10 free RATs via pharmacies have already been made available to those with health cards (they are the low income earners - unemployed, pensioners, retirees etc) by the feds. Giving tests to everyone (including high income earners like miners) is imo overkill and a misuse of tax payer funds.

He’ll be fine; my prayers shifted a few days ago to Vladimir…

Who gives a rats? 😜

All this does is add extremely to paranoia that's constantly been generated over here.

Commenting for a friend: Surely you'd be a strange person who had a tickle in the throat, take a RAT, self-report and then get the slammer treatment... :(

🤬

Over here in the East we have been using RATs before events where vulnerable people will attend (eg birthday parties) to try and reduce risk. But otherwise its mostly parents trying to reassure themselves about a child's runny nose.

Trouble is that it’s likely is a simple runny nose but in childcare situations that’s an immediate block to being able to go to childcare and has been since the pandemic started. Likely not the parents worrying but the authorities. And anyone with a young child knows that simple runny noses are almost a weekly occurrence.

Yes, a good friend of mine seems to have his kids at home more often than they are at childcare/kindergarten. He has just about had enough, tests his kids 3 times a week with rapid tests. The school isn't really happy about the situation either apparently but they are (somewhat understandably) powerless, and have to follow the directions of the Department of Education.
