I’ll see if I can dig up Qld’s community transmission (unknown source), it feel like under 5, maybe 2.

Edit: seems like Qld is 1 - today’s under investigation case. As a note there seems to be 40 in total in Qld to date.

By ALL she means those without an exemption for essential travel are still ok?

Listening to the interview now.

Gladys said except for border community exemptions (no change) and freight, as of 12.01am Friday, the only way to enter NSW from Vic will be via a flight into SYD airport, so this new hotel quarantine is enforced. I am concerned she specifically mention if an exemption is granted for a funeral it wouldnt apply which makes me very angry.

FFS In the event of a death, families can have body held/stored and funeral delayed to wait for the quarantine period if it is really critical that the Vic (or international) arrival attend. Exemption definitely shouldn't be granted for anyone who isn't immediate family member (child, sibling, spouse or parent - no 3rd cousins twice removed) of the deceased, and perhaps they need to be escorted by health official to the funeral (fully masked) and then immediately taken back to the airport (unless a returning resident, which should then be back to hotel).

They are currently reviewing all exemption classes / critical service provider definitions to limit further as some have been too easy to get.

SA granted an exemption to a wharf worker to travel to and from SA as though Vic doesnt have any wharfies? Of course, he came back positive.

Why are our leaders not looking at tagging people? Surely that has to be part of the solution instead of this endless quarantining in hotels.

As I've said before the current modus operandi:
- People who might have it = quarantine in hotel
- People who do have it = be a good person and stay at home.

I have no idea why, but the positivity rate (and hence number of cases) in Vic jumps every third day at present. But it means we can put the bed the theory by one person that Dan had rigged the figures on one day just so that the Vic Gov could announce stricter restrictions.

It could be random, or it could be something to do with how tests are processed. Who knows?

I understood people who have ever been a Professor are entitled to use it (a bit like retired servicemen used to keep their Cols and Majs). Its considered poor form to do so if you have just had a visiting Professorship overseas
The vast majority of medical Profs have cross appointments between University and their clinical job

And not just in medicine. There are a number of professions where it is quite common for people to both teach/research where they are employed by both a Uni and an outside employer both public sector and private sector or at research institutes etc.

I was never a professor, but while employed full time at a NFP over a dozen year period I also gave specialised (invited as a paid guest/eminent lecturer) lectures at Unis in 5 states. A number of my colleagues at different organisations would also teach part-time at Unis while in employment (or running their own consultancy) elsewhere. Some were professors.

That was me. I wish it had been true though because they’d be improving somewhat.

I understand that. Given NSW is probably unable to resource a bubble border scenario, the border option is very unlikely and impractical

But ACT could impose a lockdown.

Not saying it should happen, just wonder whether ACT are even able
I think a lockdown would work quite easily. Canberra is a pretty compliant population on the whole, so there would probably be only a small element to police. We had well over a 100 people in self quarantine a few weeks ago and police checks revealed 100% compliance.

I do hope it doesn’t come to that.......

It’s not a matter of “dealing” with it, it’s that a huge chunk of ACT’s population actually live in NSW. It would be like putting a hard border between Casula and Liverpool. :)

East and West Berlin had a hard border for 28 years.

I think Singapore and maybe Taiwan have done this.

Seems Qld Police is not always on duty.....sigh

Returning Queenslander says he bypassed checkpoint
A Queensland man who declared he spent time in Melbourne reportedly bypassed the quarantine requirement at the border checkpoint.
Patrick Maggs told Nine News he was just “waved through” with no questions asked at the border.
"I waved my hands a bit like this, like hey what are you doing? Aren't I supposed to stop here?"
Mr Maggs had been allowed into Victoria on compassionate grounds to care for his elderly father who had undergone surgery.
"My concern is how many other people drove straight through the same roadblock," he said.
"They could travel anywhere, do anything, touch anything they wanted to."
