Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

So one has a lease on a property in a state you are forbidden to enter? It’s just money which they have buckets of, so, you shouldn’t be permitted to abuse quarantine rules just because you have buckets. Now if they did something useful like kick a pigskin or coach a pigskin ball team, or be a celebrity on some silly masked singer program who says she is claustrophobic and a NLT, no problem. After all Peter Fox another one while a two year old with heart surgery is not applicable.

Mr Fox appears to have come in on a freight exemption. He said he was driving one of his trucks...a regular daily occruance I'm sure.

Where is the line?

I don't know.

Maybe you should need a permit to actually move address from a lockdown area? Else it seems to make a bit of a mockery of both the lockdown purpose and the "we are all in this together" line. You need a permit in many cases to get in to another area, so it shouldn't be that hard...

Another update. The soft border with NSW and ACT is possibly going to be removed in a fortnight so no need for self iso and Covid tests on arrival into SA. 🤞

Oh-oh. The Tas bunch will see that as more 'porous SA borders'

I strongly refute your assertion that I have blind loyalty to Dan and only take a pro-Dan stance, and your implication that the Vic Government is without fault.

I made no such assertion nor did I imply or say that the Vic Govt is "without fault". Take issue with what I opine by all means, but in regard what I say (write), not some other stuff, please.

1/ You use the term gathered/ gatherings in a different way than is the convention during this pandemic.

Apologies. I wasn't aware of any 'convention'. Is there a pandemic thesaurus on-line?

While you are of course free to offer your opinion on what is permitted or not, it was permitted.

Thank you. The question was whether it being permitted was a good idea or not, under Stage 4 conditions.

Many others in the media are still working and no one seems to be demanding that they all cease working.

A bit of a non-sequiter, I think, but I don't think the media should be allowed to run about as they please; and when speaking to camera, I think they should wear masks, to re-inforce the public health message.

I believe the phrase is ‘non sequitur’. Media have an exemption from masks when talking to camera to enable the deaf to lip read.

More NSW Phase 1 locations unless you are contacted by NSW Health. Perhaps more cases tomorrow.

Public health alert - City Tattersalls Fitness Centre
25 August 2020
NSW Health is investigating two cases of COVID-19 who attended City Tattersalls Fitness Centre on Pitt Street.
Anyone who attended this venue on August 19, 21 or 23 should be alert for symptoms, and if any develop get tested and self-isolate immediately.
NSW Health is working closely with City Tattersalls Fitness Centre to directly contact close contacts.
NSW Health is also alerting people who may have been to 300 George Street Sydney on August 19, 20, 21 or 24 to be alert for symptoms, and if any develop to get tested and self-isolate immediately, after one of the cases worked here while infectious.

Not yet announced by Vic DHHS twitter as per usual, but according to ABC Covid blog

Victoria has recorded 149 new coronavirus cases overnight

The Health Minister has confirmed there have been 24 deaths since yesterday.

Jenny Mikakos said most of those were in the aged care setting.

Sydney Quarantine hotel gets a timeout

According to Tripadvisor it is ranked 124 of 205 hotels in Sydney with a rating of 3.5. It doesn't look as if any 'quarantinees' have reviewed it but I guess it will be heading further south if they do.

Modelling says in about 3 weeks we would be in the 30s.

I'm more convinced we will still be around the 100 mark. There are still people moving around the community quite legally and appropriately.

At the end of the day we could lock everyone in their homes 24x7 and we'd have almost no community crime...but it doesn't make it the right thing to do. Has to be an acceptable level and appropriate tracking/tracing/mitigation measures in place.

I normally use booking.com. Surprisingly it has recent reviews, including 10s for some July stays. Averaging 7.9 and (7.8 for cleanliness).

I think I read somewhere that when a Hotel is used for these quarantines then the normal cleaning and service facilities are not used and a different company comes in to the do the work. So not the usual working standards.

From ABC news blog just now about a yacht crew coming from Victoria to Qld - not sure if it is the same yacht that was mentioned up thread. I think the article means to say that the authorities were not confident that all on board were crew members.

Queensland Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski says there will be a criminal investigation regarding a yacht trying to access the state

"...An exemption for crew members of a yacht was pulled yesterday by CHO Dr Young after Maritime Safety Queensland indicated they weren't confident the people on the yacht were not all crew members.

Dr Young said only enough people to crew the vessel from Victoria to Queensland were allowed to be on board.

They were to stay at sea for 14 days with no contact with anyone and return negative tests before disembarking.

Dr Young wasn't confident this had happened and a police investigation is underway.

The crew members are now in quarantine.

The Premier said she was "disgusted" by the crew members' conduct."

Yes, it’s the same event.

Apparently there is an industry of boat cleaning and maintenance in Qld. 10 exemptions granted so far on condition of crew only and don’t go ashore for 14 days. Apparently this is the first instance where there were doubts as to whether the exemption’s conditions were met.

Nsw reports today 6 cases

Of the cases:
- 2, a man and woman in their 40s from Western Sydney, are household contacts of each other
- 2 unrelated cases, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s are from South Eastern Sydney
- 1 is a woman in her 30s from Sydney
- 1 in hotel quarantine

No word yet on whether they are linked to existing cases or not.

There is a huge amount of school closures, 3 I think, so I’m guessing most will initially be community transmission / under investigation.

Yep, NSW Health has confirmed the five locally acquired cases as “the source not identified at this point”.

NSW‘s total community transmission (unknown source) has hit a record 29 since before Crossroads. The ageing reports indicate:
- 8 in the last 7 days,
- 5 in the 8-14 days period,
- 6 in the 15-28 days period,
- 10 older than 28 days.

I’m not confident the five cases today are accurately reflected in the ageing reports.

Good news is the last Phase 2 venue has dropped off, but as per yesterday’s health alert some new Phase 1 venues added (subsequently Apple store in Broadway Shopping Centre, Glebe was also added) and separately some schools closed.

The 7 day average for new cases is still heading in the right direction even if today and yesterday have been flat.

Frankston Hospital outbreak sends more than 600 staff into quarantine

The Victorian Australian Medical Association president Julian Rait says 612 staff at Frankston Hospital, in Melbourne's south-east, have been furloughed following a coronavirus outbreak.

There are 44 active cases now linked to the hospital.

Dr Rait confirmed the numbers after speaking to Peninsula Health's chief executive Felicity Topp.

Peninsula Health has been contacted for comment.

The health group has also been battling an outbreak at its Golf Links Road Rehabilitation Centre, where at least 17 patients had tested positive as of last week.
