Good the number is coming down but that unknown source is ridiculously high when you can only go out for a limited number of reasons.

It seems they have pinpointed family groups who have mingled and flouting the laws. If they get infected and then go into the community just for shopping etc then it's not likely they will be forthcoming about that

It’s come down 25% this week so also heading in the right direction.

Keep going VIC team you are crushing it and thank you for your sacrifice, you are really taking a huge hit for Australia and we all deeply appreciate it and look forward to seeing you all soon :) Stay safe :)

Yes the 14 day total is dropping steadily which is good, and seems have seems to have increased it rate of decrease over recent days (note data is lagged 48hrs for this statistic).

As daily unknown unknown cases are not currently published (just the the change to coughulative it is impossible to be precise as we do not have access to the real data, however the current unknown rate of positive cases over a 14 day period is about 6%. This compares to long-term overall average rate in Qld and NSW of 3.5%.

Airlines will also be subject to a new mandatory data collection regime, to plug holes in contact tracing by ensuring health authorities can quickly track down passengers on domestic flights between states and territories.

Has taken a long time to get to this point. Wonder why the variance in practice within the Qantas group

It feels like the average reduction has slowed down a bit this week. I guess attributed to the 5 families mingling during a Melbourne lockdown.

Given Victoria’s number today, Australia has a chance to be under 25 today.

Apparently they have been very forthcoming with the contact tracers.

Yes agreed let’s not get into immediately assuming the worse of these minority groups as a default.

The DHHS did a very thorough and impressive presentation on exactly what they are doing yesterday and they have had high levels of testing in the area, the department, Monash health, multiple local community agencies and leaders all working in the area, rapid testing units, a testing blitz in the area. They stated the families have been forthcoming with assistance.

Let’s hope they caught it nice and early. I can’t see how they could have reacted much better.

That's something then.

I hadn't even heard they were part of any minority group just that they were several families so I didn't jump to any conclusions at all nor assume anything 😉 Not living in Victoria the suburbs listed mean diddly squat to me. The only suburbs I know are Richmond, Hawthorn and the CBD.

She at least may enjoy Darwin. What is the quarantine like there? For an outlier it seems far more sophisticated in handling this issue than SA. But of course, then there is Qld and WA 🤷‍♀️

From media reports I gather Darwin is not a bad place to quarantine

It’s no coincidence within a few days QLD has dropped its nonsensical border with ACT and also ‘floated’ the halving of the ‘extremely‘ controversial 28 days no community transmission with just the ‘highly’ controversial 14 days no community transmission benchmark for NSW to jump over.

Sentiment is definitely turning slowly against them up here with the daily onslaught on the news of people impacted tragically, and all the double standards going on with the rich and famous.
MR FM was talking to his sister in Brisbane last week. They are labor voters, but she felt the community was very divided on the border closures.

Is she into chasing status? :)

Horrible value I know with the hotel cost but some of these enforced routings look like runs I might do...

I'm not sure - her father is very frequent flyer but not sure how savvy they are about it - I do feel like a bit of nerd sometimes when discussing frequent flyer info so tend to keep my mouth shut unless I know they are receptive.

Been referenced several times (most notably in a comment by the CHO) that they are households of Afghani origin. It’s great that health officials have recognised the need for strong community interactions - hopefully it won’t get away from them this time.

So the previous unknown case in NSW has been declared a false positive so that one is gone, but a new one today

One positive piece of data today was that the positivity rate of 0.18 % in Victoria is the lowest since 27 June, apart from 3 Sep when there was a one day dip to 0.14%. but that was a day that they released 82,309 tests results from a backlog of negative tests and so data on that day should be ignored. So lowest positivity rate for almost 3 months.
