Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

We know about both these cases, although as stated earlier the 2nd one should not be a trigger to reset the clock with Queensland

One was the case from last week which has been linked to Liverpool Hospital cluster by genomic testing and fact that person had attended Liverpool Hospital - although they haven't identified the exact person he came into contact with.

The second was yesterdays historic case, where another male in his 50s also from south west Sydney was shown to have covid-19 antibodies at a level to suggest infection approx 8 weeks ago. No longer infectious, but counted in yesterdays stats. Im sure they are contact tracing but since he is well past the infectious stage and it was so long ago doubtful they will easily find the direct chain of transmission (or if there is value in looking, given he was active in a LGA with active community transmission 2 months ago).
Ah true, its probably the historic case reported yesterday.

Geez, that would be a loophole to reset the clock again......hopefully it doesn't happen again in the next 30 days!!!

So how are antibodies being tested? That doesn’t seem to be part of the usual testing for COVID but a blood test?

We do not know why the person was tested for covid (can guess presented for other treatment and blood test were done), but they did state that it was a historic infection in the region of 8 weeks old and no longer infectious.

Perhaps one of the doctors here can advise if there is a trend to add covid screening on blood tests now?

Yes. A gaol hospital. 🤣

Not really as the vast majority of the "guests" in them currently, and of late, have chosen to "isolate" there rather than at home. ie They might be a nurse, or aged care worker, who does not want to isolate at home where they have other family members.

That is they are not "detained" as international travellers are and who in most cases (ie the Danni's excepted) and have no choice as to where they quarantine.

There are however, or at least there were, a very small number of international travellers who have been allowed to enter Victoria for compassionate reasons and as such all of these "guests" are detained.

I am not a doctor although Mrs SS is. I understand that anyone who presents for an operation is now routinely tested for COVID.

Yes but antibody tests are blood tests not the nasal swab for COVID.

Guess I'm selfishly a bit down in the mouth for the next few days. A big "0" birthday this weekend and in different circumstances would have had a party with maybe 60-100 people, now I'll be eating leftovers out of the fridge at home in iso. Relatives who were coming to visit can't, etc.
I think you are entitled to feel a bit down in the mouth @p--and--t , and I don't think you should call it selfish. Just because other people may have it worse, that does not mean that losing your reasonable (and modest) expectations of a nice gathering of family and friends for a Big Birthday does make you feel a bit low.
I have a big birthday coming up very soon too, and I feel exactly the same way.

I’m so sick of this COVID world. Highs and lows. Nephew gone off to Perth today for ADF duties so he will be in Perth. Other nephew and family stuck in WA. One son will be in UK. Other nephew in France. Christmas will be full of missing people. And that normally wouldn’t be an issue - hop on a plane if you are desperately keen to see them. But 🤷‍♀️
Sending love and empathy @Pushka. I'm sick of it too. And today's announcement of a 1 way bubble with NZ does not help me feel better about it. We are all still prisoners here (and not of our own device).

Yes, I understand where you are coming from.

I was looking at it on the basis of effectively being locked up (in the hospital scenario that was posted), with limited rights in reality. Not free to come and go as they please, and monitored/policed and that sort of thing.

Not saying that there’s anything wrong with that. Just not what I would consider to be a hospital.

It made me very happy and excited - a step forward! Also if other states want some of the NZ action they might need to think hard about some of the more silly closures they have.....

There may be more of that going on than we realise.

A spouse, and parent, who is normally never there, suddenly, is now always there. Who is this person? The kids and spouse never really knew that person in recent years due to all of the absences. And now that stranger is always hanging around and getting in the way of the regular family routine. Sad, I realise. 😳
From experience, this is quite a common occurrence with military families, even in normal times. There is a definite 'away' routine and a different 'at home' routine. School counsellors know that "absent parent is back home again" is just as disruptive to children as "parent has gone away". So again, from experience, it can be the same for "spouse is home/away". And mr Seat 0A and I have been married for 36 years, with the last 16 of those post-military, so it is not that we don't want to spend our time together. We even work together in our own business 🤣. But I defintiely have a different routine when he is away. Not better, not worse, just different.

ADL-AKL/CHC/ZQN? Pack your bags. I could probably handle stop in ADL from BNE to do that. 😀

But it's a one way street at the moment. Aussies can't go to NZ.

Mr FM and I met at work in 1979 and pretty much worked together from then on and most of that at home. We did learn to create our own spaces.

I love it when he goes away for a short space, but it’s seriously bad for my health. I tend to stay awake until 4am reading and exist on toasted cheese sandwiches and chocolate :)

Yes. My experience in the ADF over 15 years showed that there is a support network at hand. Not perfect, but better than what many will have.

But what about the bubble?

OMG @Flying mermaid - exactly what happens at my place too! Also tinned spaghetti on toast (I know it's disgusting, but there you go!)
