You need to read the releases very carefully. There has been no formal agreement around the reopening framework. There has instead been an "in principle agreement". Same as there has been several times in the past. But, I guess, if you say it often enough, eventually it will be true. It may even be so this time round.

In particular, this line was in the PM's media statement...

The issue isn't whether this is the end goal. Everyone wants it to be the end goal, including dare I suggest it, WA. The issue is rather, what happens if that goal ('no community transmission') is not achieved. Berejiklian has repeatedly said that the NSW Govt don't believe that goal to be realistic. So what then? Do the state governments then interpret it in their own interests once again?

HFF beat me to it, but recall the pub we went to in Burnie had signs up re no queuing at the bar, sit-down drinking etc. Dr Veitch was asked yesterday about relaxation of that rule - not gunna happen for a while.

Nor should it really as Tas is now open to all states (NSW next week) with VIC slated for Dec 1. Probably best to pause for a while.

That's the current debate down here - that the government should have relaxed some of the internal restrictions (capacity constraints etc) before opening the borders to see how it goes, and to correct behaviours if needed. They did relax things a bit - on the same day as opening.

Being able to drink at the bar, or anywhere on premises, basically means that full random mixing is allowed = higher risk.

Having people drinking at seats basically means that you are only mixing with the people at your table.

So most likely when they allow drinking standing up again on premises will be when they are not really restricting things on premises in any substantive way.

The whole premise of the post I referred to and the 'oh, there could be a problem' thing was invalid. I think every state has an essential worker scheme of some form of another, and for Tas this has been mentioned before, so why it was thought that these essential checks might not get done, and the fuel might stop and we'd all be 'riding bikes' I can't imagine. You might have seen reference to the fact that even plasterers for a new hotel got in under 'essential traveller' ! I only say this because you have been so vigilant in correcting the slightest error or misapprehension on anyone else's part here

In fact, Tas has got on rather well these past few months; two quarters in a row where we had the best economic performance in CommBank's national survey. As much as I've been critical of the Tas Govt's conservative policies, they seem to have worked OK.

In the early 90's it wasn't uncommon for me to hop around a few bars/pubs with some friends on a Friday or Saturday night., in Oxford St in Sydney. Always busy and almost always standing. I wouldn't have necessarily described the crowd as bogan.

On a 7.5hr flight at least 13 of the 49 on board became infected (at least because they couldn't find another 11).

And some didn't show symptoms (query if this would correlate to a positive test) until Day 17

While the staff on the door were ensuring we wore masks, I saw lots of people take them off or slide them down.

Same in Woolies.

I have no doubt we'll have an outbreak in the next few days.

"Theoretically" if people were still social distancing, non-mask compliance shouldn't be a problem.

Did Bunnings have limits to # people in store and in each aisle, and people going round policing this? - Was the situation in all their stores here when and after we had the NW Tas outbreak. They were very on-the-ball with their policing of it!!

Victoria has recorded two new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of cases now at 20,342.

Today’s new cases are close contacts of known cases linked to the northern metropolitan region community outbreak and are associated with the Regis Macleod aged care facility and East Preston Islamic College.

Both cases were in isolation when they were diagnosed. The cases are in the local government areas of Darebin and Yarra.

There have been two new deaths from COVID-19 reported since yesterday, a man aged in his 70s and a man aged in his 80s.

Both deaths are historic cases that have now been linked to COVID-19. One death occurred on 6 September and the other was on 7 October. Both are also linked to aged care outbreaks. To date, 819 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

Of the 80 current active cases in Victoria:

• 80 are in metropolitan Melbourne under the Third Step of our roadmap
• There are no cases in regional local government areas under the Third Step of our roadmap.

Non-aged care outbreaks with the highest number of active cases include:

• Eastern Health Box Hill Hospital (active 4, total 15)

Gosh you should see what was going on in SW Sydney after their outbreaks (and ongoing bubbling presence we all suspect), far far worse than that and no masks at all.

Lets just hope it stays under control everywhere.
