He did it 4.5 hours ago, i posted about it on previous page. No one is surprised he moved first.

Qld expected to make Northern Beaches a hotspot tomorrow.

Your post mentioned the restrictions from earlier which was self isolate until results back.
The 14 day self isolation for all NSW travellers was only added in the last hour or so

Queensland COVID-19 update (2)

10:00pm 17 December 2020

Statement from Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young regarding the New South Wales Northern Beaches COVID-19 cluster:

The COVID-19 cluster in the Northern Beaches of New South Wales (NSW) has now increased to 17 positive cases.
As a result:
  • Anyone who was in the Northern Beaches region on or since Friday 11 December 2020 and is already in Queensland should get tested and quarantine in their home or accommodation for 14 days from the date they left the Northern Beaches.
  • Anyone who was in the Northern Beaches region on or since Friday 11 December 2020 and arrives in Queensland on a flight from Sydney after midnight tonight (Thursday 17 December 2020), must get tested and quarantine in their home or accommodation for 14 days from the date they left the Northern Beaches.
  • Anyone who was in the Northern Beaches region on or since Friday 11 December 2020 and arrives in Queensland on a flight from Sydney after 1am Saturday 19 December 2020 must go into hotel quarantine at their own expense for 14 days from the date they left the Northern Beaches, and get tested.
This includes both interstate visitors and Queensland residents returning home.
We will continue to closely monitor the situation and will provide an update tomorrow morning.

If you were planning to travel to qld for Christmas and live in the northern beaches of NSW get in the car and go now.
If you were planning to go to WA you might as well cancel the plane ticket that door was shut.

Re: Qld, I know above says flights but typically it will be regardless of mode. If you were in the Northern Beaches anytime since 11/12 you have to quarantine

Checking QF SYD-BNE loads for today (Friday) and seats seem to be selling quick. There will be plenty of people who have been in the Northern Beaches trying to get into QLD whilst they're still able to do self-quarentine for 14 days rather than having to pay for hotel quarantine from Saturday.

Unless they have family in Queensland there is unlikely to be a rush from Northern Beaches, as at this time of year the weather is better in Sydney (no tropical storms or stingers) and they are already live on a beach.

Further they have been directed to stay home by the premier so would likely be stopped from boarding at SYD (assuming flagged by airline for having an address in the LGA on their booking).

I’m actually thinking the demand is more likely to be from QLD’ers trying to return home quickly... for example if you’ve been on the tourist popular Manly ferry in the last week you would need to pay for mandatory HQ from Saturday onwards as opposed to quarantining at home if you can get a flight today.

It’s ridiculous that WA have put a blanket ban on the whole of NSW rather than just the Northern Beaches LGA. So someone 1000km away in Broken Hill for example cannot travel to WA quarantine free

As I said the second the first two northern beaches cases emerged, it was only a matter of time before WA shut the NSW border again, we all knew it and we got 2 of our family straight onto planes out of there but unfortunately a handful now are stranded, most likely for Christmas :( Onto our plan B for them...

Ridiculous is one of the kinder words we are using to describe WA’s entire response to the pandemic. And for those who said WA wouldn’t do it to NSW again up thread.... well, I’m glad we didn’t listen and got at least two of our family out!

We were looking at loads earlier this week, it’s peak Friday and QF were already very busy on this route anyway
looks about the same as when we checked to be honest.

But I suspect like us we are all reading the tea leaves and expecting QLD will follow WA and most likely slam the border shut completely on Sydney, possible entire NSW (again) in the next few hours / days.

However there will be a lot of nervous Sydney siders who know the likely trigger happy response of the QLD CHO with travel already planned that will be considering moving faster to get out because they know what happens next.... we are!

So unfortunate that WA have blanket banned the whole state of 7.5 million people over 17 cases in a localised area.

Meanwhile

And this again shines light on the real reason WA slammed the border shut, their health response simply isn’t up to dealing or assisting with even a small number of cases. They can’t even test a few hundred people quickly? If that was Melbourne, Sydney, even Adelaide - all are able to scale up and test quickly. And those people were directed to go there and be tested by the government.... whoops.....

It's all a sad joke. I've cancelled restaurant plans for the weekend because I'm that scared of the WA government banning me for being somewhere public at a particular moment in time. COVID isn't scaring me one bit. We have a visit to a pub organised as a work group this evening, I am seriously considering giving it a miss on the basis that someone at the pub might've been at the northern beaches this week and I'll be stuck in quarantine at Christmas instead of home in Perth. Though I suspect that door will close to me prior to when I can make it over on Christmas Day anyway.

This is the ultimate test of how popular state premiers will be. These restrictions of broadened to NSW will affect tens of thousands of their own citizens, not just NSW residents.

Australia wakes to a Christmas nightmare: WA slams border shut on NSW, QLD expected to follow as latest outbreak creates holiday chaos

Australians have woken to find travel and Christmas plans in chaos after a COVID-19 cluster exploded on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

On Thursday evening contact tracers scrambled to conduct genomic sequencing and interview all those who had tested positive for coronavirus, with a list of nearly 20 new affected venues and three train lines announced in a bid to contain the outbreak.

The timing of the outbreak could not be worse - occuring just one week out from the busy Christmas period that has many Australians due to cross state borders to visit loved ones for the first time in months.

WA
In Western Australia, anyone arriving from New South Wales from Friday onwards will have to quarantine for two weeks.

QLD
Queensland’s chief health officer, Dr Jeannette Young, said new rules would apply to anyone who had been in the Northern Beaches region on or since Friday, December 11.

If that’s you, and you are already in Queensland, you are required to get tested for the virus and quarantine in your home or accommodation until 14 days after the date you left the Northern Beaches.

If you arrived in Queensland on a flight from Sydney after midnight (12am Friday, December 18), the same rule applies.

Finally, if you arrive in Queensland after 1am on Saturday, you’ll be required to go into hotel quarantine at your own expense.

It is expected harsher restrictions will be announced for Sydney this morning, with Dr Young flagging an update will be announced shortly.

TAS
Tasmania has banned anyone who’s been in the Northern Beaches area on or since December 11 from entering the state. More advice will be provided this morning.

VIC
Victoria has asked anyone who’s been in the Northern Beaches area since December 11 to “stay at home and get tested tomorrow”. Further travel advice will be announced today.

NT
The Northern Territory has declared the Northern Beaches a virus hotspot. Chief Minister Michael Gunner has announced anyone travelling to the NT from the region must undertake 14 days of supervised quarantine in either Alice Springs or Darwin, at a cost of $2500 per person.

SA & ACT
No change to border restrictions.

Such media rubbish. If you can still go but have to quarantine, then that's not shutting the borders. It's just simply adding a delay before you can move about freely. Shutting the borders is saying you can't enter at all.

Good ole Tasmania will not let anyone from the northern beaches in.So their border is shut.Surprisingly very few talking about them but concentrating on WA and QLD who at least will let you in but with quarantine at your cost.

Indeed, hence the post before mine being incorrect as it says WA slams the border shut.

Well the genomic testing was meant to have been done last night.

I am hoping it is linked to the driver as that will mean a shortish period if he is patient zero.

If he is a different strain then who knows how long the northern beaches tree has been growing.

ABC just announced they have linked it to an overseas strain...

Genomic testing has revealed the Northern Beaches outbreak is an international strain of COVID-19 but authorities still do not know how it got into the community.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the latest number of cases would be announced by 11:00am AEDT.
