Quite simply they feel they can get on top of it.This feels like it’s spun out of control a little now... I wonder why they are resisting making masks mandatory and doing a circuit breaker lockdown to catch up....?
I actually have every confidence in Kerry and the team. I’m quietly sh!tting myself as a frontline worker in NSW Health but I think given what they have managed before we will prevail here with widespread community engagement in contact tracing and voluntary COVID safe behavior modification. This feels like it’s spun out of control a little now... I agree. While obviously some people have travelled outside of the general area, the current list suggests its largely contained to the northern beaches. I do suspect many more cases will be revealed in the morning but that most have already been in isolation for at least a day. This may be a good test of our National system. If the states can agree to call the northern beaches a “hot spot” and still manage to accept other travelers from Sydney, then maybe we’ve finally found a manageable model.I actually have every confidence in Kerry and the team. .. But is still Sydney still as segmented as it used to be? When I moved to Sydney in the 1990s, for about 4-5 years, from Melbourne, it struck me how people stuck to there own areas - the regions were well delineated. The Inner West, East, Northern Beaches, West, Shire, Northshore etc ....

For what it’s worth, I’m from the south side and, aside from a handful of visits to manly, haven’t visited the northern beachesBut is still Sydney still as segmented as it used to be? Maybe if it's still the case, that helps Sydney a lot in a pandemic.
Similar here. I have lived in the lower north shore for 27 years and rarely go over the Spit Bridge into the Northern Beaches or travel west of the Gladesville Bridge. For what it’s worth, I’m from the south side and, aside from a handful of visits to manly, haven’t visited the northern beaches
Agreed. Whilst I have some issues with NSW Health (I also worked for them), they have done very well on contact tracing. So hopefully they will find all the people required to self isolate quickly.I actually have every confidence in Kerry and the team. One hopes so.

The concern though is there there are still many venues that are poor in following covid safe procedures.
Even Melbourne is somewhat complacent now. I have been lucky to work all the way through without interruption and in the office almost every day except two weeks in November I had for my sanity. Lifts are still officially restricted to two people, but since the government allowed more people to return to working in the office, I see many more than that. People walk in to lifts with several people already in them, without caring. Many are not wearing face masks in the lift. Many on public transport are not wearing masks despite government directives to do so.Not saying my hometown of Brisbane is any better by the way! I don’t think any city is probably doing it well outside of Melbourne of course after what they went through...
It's funny how bridges divide cities...

This morning, going for a coffee at 7/11 from the office, I walked past one of the strip clubs in the CBD emptying out. Two people confronted me shouting "hey you don't need to wear a cough*ing mask any more you cough*ing idiot"
So, in short, there are bad apples everywhere and frankly every city in this country is, to me, a ticking time bomb. Can the good fortune last a week longer so I and many others can see my family for Christmas? I hope so.
