Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

If you take out the hyper-ventilating, not much left. 🤣

Perhaps you’d be better off keeping out of it then if it’s impacting you so much. This is frequent flyers forum in which people are discussing travel restrictions that are having a huge impact on people’s lives. Not really sure why you’re here if that’s not of any interest.

And those 7+1 cases from 44,466 tests, testing up 15% on yesterday.

Getting it back to single digits is impressive.
The now ironic statistic from SA during the recent full lockdown it went from 17 to -1 on the first lock down day. One was reclassified.

Yes but if NSW decided to limit SYD arrivals to NSW residents only, then they could get home 45% faster.

But our Premiere is pragmatic and also has a heart, so NSW doesnt have an attitude like Queensland who famously stated that Queensland hospitals are only for Queenslanders.

Whilst hotels are receiving patronage and security and health jobs have been created, most particpating properties would still be making a loss because they arent able to open their resturants, run on demand room servie, earn comissions from tour desk and other conceirge services etc. Plus there may be a stigma once this thing is over against some of the hotels, as people worry about quality of deep cleaning.

This is the price that must be paid for being Australia’s hub/world city, which in normal times has significant benefits.

Also don’t forget, that with quarantine in the arriving port if you excluded so called “residents” of other states, then it would make travel back from several destinations (thinking USA/Canada) extremely difficult for non-NSW residents. The only port currently served for passenger flights out of the US is Sydney.

I wasnt actually suggesting SYD should stop taking residents from and air freight for otehr states/territories, but because we are taking over 50% of all arrivals thew other states need to recognise we therefore have much higher risk of virus breaching controls, and not go into panic mode when there are some clusters to be controlled.

Qantas actually announced this mornign they will be using 2 dreamliners to do freight only flights 3 times a week between BNE-LAX, so there will be flights going to/from the USA outside of SYD. Once MEL gets back up to its full capacity there should also be MEL-LAX/SFO flights happening. While MEL has resumed inetrnational passeger flights the volumes are no where near where they were before they stopped taking them - Sydney is stil taking some of those added when MEL closed.

A reporter asked Gladys this morning since NSW is doign the majority of heavy lifting on passenger arivals and airfreight whetehr NSW shoudl eb asking to keep more GST given Vic and Qld in particlar arent taking enough. She was polite and said now is not the time, but adjusting GST is one way the Federal Govt could encourage other states to do more to get Aussies home.

Interesting that the Qld tourism minister stated that visitors to Sydney only represent about 10% of visitors to Queensland has requested that they all cancel upcoming bookings so the rooms can be taken by locals. It seems Queensland hotels are also only for Queenslanders.

There’s 20 million people who can still travel and I see the idea of releasing rooms that can never be occupied for others.

Anyone else noticed the change in tone from Annastasia - “we love NSW and hope to see you soon” and that they can now magically meet more than once a month. I actually detected a note of desperation...

I asked about US flights on a QF forum the other day, and the response would lead me to believe that these flights have been happening for a while, and use only Brisbane based crews.

Did QF say that, or is that your assumption?

At least WA is dealing with the case with the necessary treatment.

Dropping her off just beyond the territorial limit, and letting her swim back?

I'm really not sure why anyone would book anything at the moment. WA and Qld close the borders on a hair trigger. I'm not sure that Dan is any better. There'll be a lot of unsecured loans to the airlines, as they aren't refunding much at the moment.

I wasnt assuming QF, but heard from CA based friends that at least one of the US based caririrs was considering it.

Queensland are requiring their returning residents to do self funded hotel quarantine, but news keeps reporting that Vic wont let their residents return from greater Sydney at all until the border reopens. So Vic is taking the SA and WA approach of locking its own residents/tax payers out, surely they could let them fly-in and pay for HQ?

I wonder at the legality of this stance long term, if NSW keeps getting 1 new case every 28 days, they could be locked out of their homes and jobs for months.

Has Vic made the necessary changes to be able to charge for mandatory hotel quarantine??? Re:State borders

100%. Frequent flyer award seats for me, or last minute $ bookings if desperate. Don't really care if it costs me double, better than thousands lying around in someone else's account for who knows how long.

Totally agree. We are at the whim of Health Officials who in the main have no concept of risk. I couldn't believe it this morning when amidst the updates on Covid in SA, Professor Spurrier then went on to lecture us about healthy preparation of the Christmas Lunch. 🙇🏼‍♀️🤦‍♀️Good god. That is a mother talking to children not adult to adult.
The WA border will re-open to South Australia on Christmas Day.

Isn't he a joy? Too late for anything Christmas much.

I think we allllll get it as you post exactly the same ‘advice’ every couple of weeks, if the discussion bothers you, or the fact that people are not listening to you, then don’t visit the site or the specific threads that you don’t like - it’s a pretty simple solution :)

Great news.

So now it’s just back to Sydney / NSW cut off from the rest of Australia... I wonder how long they will be in border prison for...?

It's been like this for months with Prof Spurrier.
Yes. It works for some but adult - adult conversations are needed right now. When she started rabbiting on this morning about basic cooking hygiene, I mean, seriously?

I have no idea where he has pulled that 10% number from... we work alongside tourism and hospitality operators and Sydney represents much more % than that even with international tourists chucked in normally.

I smell some very selective picking of numbers to try and not panic people....
