Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I think most states are operating under a suppress or eliminate model.

The difference being those believing in elimination have been lucky.
Well according to the background of the original graph / policy, it’s arguably well within point 3

I think that sums it up perfectly.

So I guess anyone vehemently whinging about a lack of policy since we achieved flatten the curve (point 2) is a bit naive. The original flatten the curve has a point 3 to keep lowering numbers.

Another poster on one of these threads made a reasonable comment a while back, asking for those whinging to propose a solution. I’m guessing after months of whinging they are just dumbfounded and just keep whinging about having achieved flatten the curve (marketed as point 2) and how stupid/incompetent/etc the government is.

As reported earlier, but here is the graphic. Though Jeroen also said no new cases overnight, and just not to midnight which is what this official report is to.

Presumably means the suspected patient 0 hasn't been confirmed.
Reported on ABC that Vic has put 200 people into isolation as close contacts

It was just stated that once the genomic testing is back, that they will make a more detailed report on this outbreak's links.

Jeroen just stated that the original possibility that was tested yesterday has tested negative.

They have two other prime NSW links that they are investigating.

So still no patient zero for Victoria. Hope we aren't seeing a pattern like NSW with no starting point.

So two separate tables at Smile Buffulo with cases. But not yet known which table gave it to which table, or if a third party was somehow involved. Also not known yet if first transmission was here or to someone at one of the tables elsewhere.

170 people now in isolation all from links to those two tables. ie Cases, close contacts of cases, and close contacts of close contacts.

3 new cases in NSW, all in western Sydney

2 under investigation.
None linked to Avalon Cluster.

Wollongong and Croydon's Cluster have both had a case each attend the same restaurant in Wollongong on 19th Dec..

Genomic testing now shows that all 3 clusters in NSW are linked. ie Avalon, Wollongong and Croydon.

Wollongong wastewater testing has now also detected Covid 19.

Two Vic cases travelled to Bega NSW on 30th and Bermagui on 31st.

Not sure how this fits in with the testing results though, especially the 31st. The dates do not seem to align unless someone got tested and did not isolate. Unless they were the 2 from late yesterday. That would be a long drive back to Melbourne though!

EDIT; Dr Chant just stated that Vic Travellers complied with everything including isolation.

Also maybe I misheard the 31st date.

Two Vic cases visited NSW

Two COVID cases from Victoria travelled to the NSW South Coast, with alerts now issued for a restaurant and café in the area.

Dr Chant says the Victorian pair dined at the Great Southern Hotel in Eden on December 30, and also at Bermi’s Beachside Café in Bermagui.

Contact tracing is underway
to alert those who were at the venues at the same time.

PS Also remember that all 8 Victorian cases are linked.

Dr Chant announced that the Vic positive cases were in Eden and Bermagui last 2 days - those people had not been in greater Sydney.

I wonder if Avalon strain has been compared to positive hotel quarantine strains in Qld and Vic? As no definitive source found in Sydneyfor Avalon, it is not unreasonable to check the leak wasnt interstate. At start of Dec was a lot of domestic travel jnto NSW.

Do you really think that Vic DHSS would not check?

They genomic sequence all tests results in Vic, as I assume they do in every state. The only exceptions are that some swabs for various reasons cannot grow a live virus to enable the sequencing.

All sequences are matched against all other sequences.

As I noted earlier today in this thread it was indicated that as soon as the genomic sequencing is complete they will announce a report on this aspect of the outbreak in Victoria. Vic DHHS have also stated that they are working closely with NSW Health on this.

I dont believe they have the results yet so at this stage they feel it is a NSW leak but dont have the proof just yet,

Yes as I posted earlier this morning from the Vic Presser:

It was just stated that once the genomic testing is back, that they will make a more detailed report on this outbreak's links.

So they may have just the initial couple back, or none. We don't know as yet.
